Just a brutal f***ing call by the 3rd base umpire, who said the 3rd base coach touched Michael Young to stop him from running home. The guy wasn't even LOOKING!

And the Twins' luck continues.

Rangers lose on a blown call at third base, ruled interference when Young didn't touch the 3rd base coach, go figure.

He did touch his hand, but he was clearly trying to get out of the way. It was incidental contact.

My guess is that the umpire thought he saw something out of the corner of his eye though, because he certainly was not looking at the time. He was looking at Hudson at the time, and must have seen the touch out of his peripheral vision.

Would Young have scored if he was not called out by interference?

No, but he was safe at third, bases still loaded, 2 out in a 6-5 Twins lead game.

How many more breaks can the Twins get? It's absolutely insane how lucky they have been during this streak.

He was going back to third, so no.

Any news on why Konerko was pulled?

Konerko stiff lower back. He actually tweaked it yesterday, but tried playing through it. He is not playing tomorrow.

Must have screwed it up diving for that ball last night.

Whoa.. we won?!?! f*** yes!

I left when Victor Martinez hit that 2 run homer, beyond pissed why Buehrle was left in to face a guy who hits much better from the right side. Glad we came back there. Hopefully I'll catch the reply tonight.

Just keep winning. Just keep winning. Just keep winning winning winning.

Agreed. And what a CHICKEN s*** way to end a game in Minny. That's friggin weak!

Why couldnt MLB just contracted Minnesota years back? Would have made life a lot easier as a baseball fan.

I saw the interview with Ron Washington yesterday on the Fox game - he basically said "We've got the division won, so we're mailing it in this month and resting up for October."

Fortunately, the Sox are 3 back in the loss column with 3 to play against the Twins, so THE SOX CONTROL THEIR OWN DESTINY. Yes it will be tough to sweep the Twins, but we're playing great again and don't need help from anyone else right now.

I couldn't possibly disagree with this statement more.

Ugh, plus the whole catwalk thing in Tampa...If Karma's real, either they saved a bunch of orphanages from raging fires, or Joe Mauer's about to get hit by a meteor.

LOL.

This was a great win, but it is becoming increasingly clear that the season will come down to that series against Minnesota at home.

And unless Jimmy Thome gets a 3 day migraine headache, there are gonna be some nasty posts here on Soxtalk. He waves a pretty mean stick still.

My statement that the Sox don't need help from anyone and control their own destiny is mathematically correct. Hear me out:

If the Sox win out from this point forward, they will make up the 3 games they are behind in the loss column by beating the Twins three times in the Sept 14-16 series. If the Twins win all their games except the 3 against the Sox, both teams will finish with exactly the same record and there will be a Game 163 (in Minny, alas), which the Sox also control and can win. Therefore they control their own destiny and don't need anyone else's help to beat Minny. But they would have to win 4 of 4 games against the Twins (the 3 in the upcoming series, plus Game 163).

The math works the same if both the Sox and the Twins lose exactly the same number of games when they are *not* facing each other. So as long as the Sox don't lose more games than the Twins when they aren't playing each other, they set up a scenario in which they would have to take 4 of 4 from the Twins.

But, you might say, winning 4 of 4 against Minny (3 games in Chicago plus 1 in Minny) is pretty hard or unrealistic. If so, then we do need some help - and we actually need two games worth of help (two more Twins losses than Sox losses when they aren't facing each other). If we only take 2 of 3 versus the Twins in the upcoming series, then we only make up one of the three games in the loss column, and we need other teams to help us make up the other two losses and again force Game 163. So we can indeed win the division by taking just 3 out of 4 games versus the Twins, but that requires two games worth of help.

Well, first off, you said we were playing well. We're not. We've scored some REALLY ugly wins against some really faltering (or already s***ty) teams lately.

Mathematically I would say you are pretty correct. But some help would always be nice. :P

No disagreement there. It'd be great! I'm just pointing out that we don't absolutely (or mathematically) need it. I don't think we're likely to get much help, because the Rangers were the last supposed-to-be-hard opponent for the Twins, and the Rangers mailed it in because they are so far ahead in the West. But no problem - Sox just need to go ahead and take care of their own business, and get ready for 3 or 4 HUGE games against the Twins that will very likely determine the winner of the division. I've got my tickets!
