Honestly, no one team really. I went to a DIII school and have been involved with high school ball for years. More than anything I follow the game, and the players I saw at the HS level. Over the years I have pulled probably more for IU and Kentucky than anyone, though not Kentucky as much the last couple of years. New Mexico has been on my radar because of working with Steve Alford when we were both at Manchester. Michigan will pop up again when Robinson and McGary are there. Ball State's best player is from my hometown, so I got to know him, and I will pull for them again for sure this year.

I saw a game once at The Pit, where New Mexico plays. I have been to a number of college arenas for basketball, and honestly I wasn't expecting a lot at UNM. I know the have a program, but nothing spectacular. The game was against BYU I think, who had a good program for basketball at the time.

Turned out to be the loudest college arena I've been in, and an absolute sea of red. I was very impressed. The way they stadium is designed, it is literally dug into the ground, instead of above ground, and the ceiling is flat concrete (similar to Hilton that way, but no wood baffles), so the sound just bounces right back down. Definitely one of the best places to see a game.

Re: the toilet paper thing... It has been a tradition at that school for like 20 years. The students all do it for the 1st point scored in the 1st game of the season. All the refs and players/coaches from the opposing team know it's going to happen. I think it's kind of cool.

And yes, they still get called for the technical anyway. But like it really matters at some no-name, tiny school like that.

Just because it's gone on for 20 years doesn't make it not incredibly stupid.

It is supposed to be a great place to see a game, and one of the loudest arenas in the country.

First exhibition 11/6 vs GV State, first real game 11/12 vs Lehigh for Iowa State. Psyched to see how all these transfers do, along with some matured players from last year.

um... ouch.

How young is everybody here??? Does no one remember that the toilet paper thing used to be done at arenas all over the country after the first score of a game. Of course it didn't last more than a year or two, but it was done widely across the country. Call it a fad if you will, but Sportscenter used to show it all the time.

As far as this school, its a tradition and done only once a year. The timing of 20 years is about right for when it was happening across the country. The home team gets a technical every year. Everyone knows its coming and they are prepared to clean it up right away. I say launch away, and give me a roll to throw!

I know we did it at times. TP, newspapers, confetti... We tried everything at some point.

20-30 years ago there also was no 3-point shot and they wore shorts that ended 10 inches above the knee. Just because something is an old tradition doesn't mean it's a good idea.

I hate the long shorts.

I'm not a big fan of the super long shorts either. But the shorts do need to end closer to the knee than to the waist.

I think I'd rather them wear the nut huggers of yesterday than the "shorts" that go halfway down their calf that some teams wear now. Basically, some teams wear baggy capri pants. Know any guy that looks good in capris? lol

A little more background...

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/bl...rn=ncaab-wp5820

Looks like it started as a "F--- You" to a referee...

Because he previously saw a Texas school escape with just a warning when its fans threw a few rolls of toilet paper onto the court, John Sheehy didn't like when a referee refused to show his team the same courtesy in a TP game against Northeastern State in 1989. As a result, he vowed revenge when he learned the same referee was working his team's game at Northeastern State the following season.

When the Golden Eagles scored their first basket of that game, Sheehy arranged for a pocket of John Brown fans to hurl rolls of toilet paper on the visiting team's floor. Sheehy suspected the referee would have to call a technical foul on Northeastern State since he'd done the same to John Brown the previous year.

"Their athletic director's in shock, their coach is white as a sheet and someone's yelling on their loud speakers that anyone who throws things on the floor will be escorted from the gym," John Sheehy recalled with a chuckle. "The official had us lined up for a free throw, but somebody told him that the stuff came from behind John Brown's bench. I didn't argue at that point. It was a practical joke on an exuberant referee."

It there a meltdown happening on the IU board?

No way, it's been about a month since we thought we had a real shot. Both his parents graduated from Purdue, with his mom being an All American guard on their womens team. Couple that with IU already using the oversign by signing 5 guys next week, there's just too much working agianst them. Still, IU pulls in a top 5 class with 2 five star players. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Yeah, but the GH threads were all over your scout board since then even though there really wasnt much room for the guy.

20-30 years ago, they also knew how to shoot a mid-range jumper and bounce pass. Just because something's new, doesn't make it a good idea either.

They showed ILL's pre season game onBTN today. That Griffey kid looks pretty good.

I'd say it's been way longer than a month. I still think he ends up at Mich St.

Royce White will be our point forward this year.

I recorded it and haven't watched it yet, but I think you mean Leonard? He's the one who had 18...

This is why I'm an NBA fan. The college game is terrible. A lot games come down to who can jack up the most 3's.

Both games have their pros and their cons. I love em both.
