Some truth to unpatriotic liberals?

Is it patriotic to believe the government is incapable of solving and running complex programs like health care

The government =/= The nation

I love the nation. Government, however, I see as a necessary evil. We should strive to make it as small as possible. This dislike and distrust for government has no impact on my feelings toward the United States of America.

The military is part of the government.

And it's the only part that's worth a damn.

When I talk about a need for small government, I'm referring to bureaucracy, entitlement programs and other forms of control. Those things need to be minimized. National defense does not.

I completely disagree. I hate paying a ton of taxes for something completely unnecessary like the gazillion dollars spent on futuristic fighters, tanks, etc. Who are we protecting ourselves from? A bunch of cave dwellers with car bombs? Seems ridiculously disproportionate considering who our enemies are. And to boot, we spend more than our ten closest allies combined. Talk about a complete waste of money and strain on our society.

I honestly view the military as a necessary evil, literally. We should also strive to make it as small as possible.

Oh, and if the government doesn't mean patriotism, than why would you post an article stating that one's political beliefs (= government) determines one's patriotism?

Ah, should have expected the typical "military hate" card sooner or later. And you wonder why I suspect you of being unpatriotic. It's a real shame that we are sworn to protect people of your caliber who don't realize the immense good created by the military. You're pathetic.

To the admins, I'm not going to tolerate people insulting the military. Several friends of mine have died in the services, and to hear someone call their deaths part of "necessary evil" infuriates me beyond belief. If thinking someone who says that is the scum of the earth is not allowed here, then so be it.

Not sure where a post just disappeared to (it was a solid, reasonable post), but I'll leave that up there ironically anyway.

That was not an insult, you're looking way too into this. The military, any military, is in fact a necessary evil. I'm one of the more conservative posters here (i've just stayed away from this forum for the most part the past few months), but i understand what he's trying to say. He's not saying that the military is evil, he's more saying how unfortunate it is that it is necessary. Wouldn't you rather live in a world where it wasn't needed (aka necessary)?

Unfortunately, it is needed, badly, and I don't believe at all in defense spending cuts or anything like that. I even work for a company that provides connectors to most of the main military contractors. If you were ever in an MRAP, Abrams or JLTV or an F-35 or RAPTOR, etc you probably rode in something that contained pieces that came out from the facility I work at. I have the utmost respect for anyone in the military, past or present, but making that statement is not a knock on them at all.

Don't look for fights, they'll come up on their own enough in this section as is.

He has a point though. What would be the reaction if someone said don't ask, don't tell was a necessary evil? This place would be in meltdown.

This place would explain all the reasons why it's a terrible policy that actually harms the military on the whole as well as discriminates against a sizable minority of Americans call you the scum of the earth.

I don't think that's really the same thing. The military is more of an entity, whereas don't ask don't tell is a policy.

I think government in and of itself is a necessary evil, but that doesn't mean those involved with it are necessarily bad in any way at all.

And thanks for reinforcing the double standard SS.

LOL

So anyone that doesn't think like you is pathetic. So open-minded. I think that you're pathetic because you don't share my exact beliefs.

who is reinforcing the double standard here? For someone who claims to find this behavior so despicable, you're the first to defend it when it's coming from the other side. And you are an admin. In this case you just had someone called pathetic, and instead of writing a very reasonable response like chisox sonix, you said "you have a point".

Cry more.

Not everyone has to share your opinion.

Its because this board has had a double standard for a long time. Basically anyone who isn't left wing is picked at until they say the wrong thing, and then everyone cries out for a suspension. You guys can't handle anyone who thinks differently, and everything is done to get rid of them ASAP. Usually it takes longer than this, so bravo.

It's one thing to have differing opinions but what about the rules of the board when it comes to name calling? Since this person shares your belief you can let that slide?

Should I suspend everyone who has engaged in name calling in this thread?

bulls***. There have been a number of conservative posters who have left on their own because they didn't like having to argue their points to liberals on the board.. There is probably an equal split of liberal to conservative posters that actively participate in this forum. Both sides go at it about the same. ANd the conservatives whine just as much if not more.

It has nothing to do with arguing points, and everything to do with having a bullseye on your back as soon as you deviate from the Democratic Party line. It would be different if it hadn't been a pattern over a period of years now.

oh please. If that was the case the libya and afghanistan threads would be full of democratic cheerleading and the healthcare thread would talk about how it's the greatest thing ever. But it's not the case, you just have people arguing from one side just like you have other people arguing from another side. This is just a practice of victimization.

You'll have to explain where the double-standard is.

LOL, yeah, me and BS, Democrat Party shills! It wasn't like we spent pages arguing with Balta on why we won't be voting for Obama or anything.
