September 11, 201114 yr Author QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) This is Game 4, BTW. Birmingham is down 2-1 going into this game. Whoops, I knew that. Both teams facing elimination then.
September 11, 201114 yr Shirek has been terrific so far. I was over talking Gilmore predicitng a great playoff series, but it is Short who is shining.

September 11, 201114 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) Bauer has now given up 17 ER in his last 4 1/3 IP. Wow. SL > Pac-10
September 12, 201114 yr QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) SL > Pac-10 Still a good chance he'll make the Diamondbacks postseason roster.
September 12, 201114 yr As somebody who has never seen either guy, I wonder this: Are Leesman and Shirek good enough to pitch in the Sox rotation in a couple of years? winning baseball?
September 12, 201114 yr QUOTE (NHDadUmp-RI @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) Shirek brought his "A" game!! Game 5 tomorrow night!! Indeed, now we need Edwards to pitch his best game of the season tomorrow. Get the live chicken and Jobu ready.
September 12, 201114 yr QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) As somebody who has never seen either guy, I wonder this: Are Leesman and Shirek good enough to pitch in the Sox rotation in a couple of years? winning baseball? Leesman can be studly when his control is good. Shirek is probably best suited as a swingman/long reliever.
September 12, 201114 yr QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 08:47 PM) Still a good chance he'll make the Diamondbacks postseason roster. How? I thought he would have had to have been on the 25-man roster before Sept 1st to be eligible? No?
September 12, 201114 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) How? I thought he would have had to have been on the 25-man roster before Sept 1st to be eligible? No? Not if someone was on the DL on Aug 31st
September 12, 201114 yr Great Falls looks like they are moving on. Kevan Smith leading the way with 3 RBIs in the game.

About Shirek... It was a bit of a surprise that they put him back to starting again. All indications the past couple seasons have been that he tires out as the season goes on, and that he really doesn't have a solid 3rd pitch. He's also got a fairly high-effort delivery, but can hit mid-90's with the fastball despite not being a big guy. Does have good sink on his pitches, draws a lot of ground balls. Was actually a very highly sought-after guy in his early college years, but had a bad season (on and off field) and the Sox picked him up as a "bargain" high risk, high ceiling type pick in the draft. Seems to profile as a reliever to me, but the Sox seem to think he may be able to keep starting, so we'll see.

September 13, 201114 yr No f***ing way Bauer makes the postseason roster. If you give up 17 ER in your last 4 1/3 IP in AA, chances are the organization is going to be looking at somebody else.
