The final list of historical marks made this season

And here's the final summary for this craptacular season. If anyone would like to forward this to Mario ASAP, just so he knows what he SHOULD be doing in the next 24 hours...

OHIO DOMINICAN

This D-II team beats SIU for their first ever win over a D-1 school in 9 tries. It's SIU's first loss at home to a non-D1 school since SIU lost at home to SEMO in December of 1982 (SEMO didn't turn D-1 until 1991), and before that, there was a home loss to California State-Los Angeles back in December of 1969. To make things worse, ODU finishes their season at 4-22 overall and 1-17 in their conference. Their other three wins this year were against Lourdes, Mercy and Tiffin. Yep, you heard that right - Lourdes, Mercy and Tiffin.

ST. LOUIS

The Dawgs shoot an alltime low of 20.5 percent (8-39) in the loss. This blows away the previous mark of 24.2 percent, set back in January of 1982.

Shooting 4-22 in the first half, SIU's 18.2 percent is tied for the second worst shooting half in team history, behind only the disastrous 2003 MVC Championship Final against Creighton when SIU shot 15.6 in the first half.

SIU's 15 first half points were the lowest since that abysmal 13-point first half at Illinois State in January of 2008, and the 15 points are tied for the fifth-fewest points in a half since 1950.

The 42 total points were the lowest since SIU put up 41 at Western Michigan in December of 2007, and it's tied for the fifth-lowest scoring game in SIU history since 1950.

NORTHEASTERN

The Salukis fall to 0-3 for the first time since 1963, when Jack Hartman challenged his college-level team against bigger competition, losing four consecutive road games to Indiana, Oklahoma State, Toledo and Ohio.

WESTERN KENTUCKY

The Hilltoppers win at SIU for the first time in 23 years.

The Dawgs shoot just 20 percent in the first half - that's tied for the fifth-worst shooting half in SIU history...

They score just 14 points in the first half, which is among the five lowest scoring halves in SIU history...

Oh, and they did all of this against a team that was previously 0-7 against D-1 teams this year.

After this game, SIU's RPI of #341 is the worst ranking ever for the school since the RPI was devised in 1981.

At this point in the season, among all 344 D-1 teams, SIU is in the bottom ten in assist-turnover ratio, assists per game, total FG attempted, total rebounds, total defensive rebounds, total points, total assists, 3-pt percentage, fg percentage, total made fg, and total 3-pointers made.

WESTERN MICHIGAN

SIU's total of 14 points in the first half is among the five worst ever point totals in the first half in SIU history, and the 20 percent shooting percentage in the first half is tied for the fifth worst in any half ever.

SIU's total of 43 points is among the ten lowest scoring games in SIU history.

CLEMSON

SIU blows an 8-point lead in the final 3:30 of regulation and also blows a 3-point lead in the final seconds when a Clemson player is fouled going to the hoop. After the bucket and FT, SIU fails to get a decent shot off at the end of regulation and loses in overtime. Lowery's last four OT games in his career have ended in losses, and his alltime record in OT games falls to 3-10.

XAVIER

In the loss to Xavier, SIU piles up 28 fouls, so the Musketeers pile up 48 FT attempts, which is the fourth most by an SIU opponent in history. The 36 made FTs by Xavier are the fifth most by an SIU opponent in history.

EVANSVILLE

The Aces put up 48 points in the first half to lead by 21 at the break. SIU never gets closer than 13 points the rest of the way. But hey, no records were set in this one.

WICHITA STATE

Another big hole to climb out of... after falling behind by 19 points early in the second half, SIU eventually cuts it down to 5 points before withering in the end and losing by 10 at home. Nothing historical here, but just mentioning the increasingly frequent "get into a big hole and try to come back" theme of this year's team.

MISSOURI STATE

Another big hole to climb out of... after falling behind 37-16 late in the first half, SIU comes all the way back to within two, but never ties or goes into the lead. Another double digit-loss on the road.

CREIGHTON

The Jays beat SIU for the eighth straight time, holding a comfortable double-digit lead for the last 10 minutes of the game. SIU gives up 90 points for the first time since January of 2005.

DRAKE

SIU once again fails to get a decent shot at the end of this one, forcing the game into OT. Another overtime loss for Lowery - he's now lost 7 of his last eight overtime games and is 3-11 overall in his career.

WICHITA STATE

The 85-42 loss is the second-worst margin of defeat in Saluki history. Only a 46-point loss to Evansville in 1981 was worse.

The 42 total points scored - among the ten lowest scoring games ever.

The 16 points in the first half - among the ten lowest scoring first halves ever.

The Shockers score a stunning 56 points in the paint.

ILLINOIS STATE

SIU's 40 point output is the second worst in school history, only ahead of a 36-point performance in 1981.

After 30 minutes of gametime, SIU had only 19 points. SIU had to score 21 points in the last 10 minutes just to get to 40.

The 17-point first half is NOT among the ten worst in SIU history, only because all the other low-scoring first halves this season have pushed that 17-point total out of the top ten (or bottom ten, if you will).

SIU has now lost 15 or more games for five consecutive years... it's the first time in school history that this has happened.

INDIANA STATE

The Sycamores establish an NCAA alltime record by shooting a perfect 12 for 12 from the 3-pt line. The 12 bombs are tied for the 6th most given up by the Salukis in team history.

The 80 percent shooting by Indiana State in the second half (12 makes in 15 attempts) ties the alltime record for shooting percentage by a team in a half against SIU.

With the loss, SIU has lost at least 18 games in back-to back seasons for the first time in school history.

The 37 combined losses over the last two seasons are tied for the most over a two-year span in school history.

CREIGHTON

The Jays shoot an alltime MVC conference game record 77.5 percent from the field in beating the Salukis 88-69.

The Jays' 77.5 percent also sets a Creighton alltime record.

If Creighton had just two of their misses turn into buckets, that would have been an alltime NCAA best. The current NCAA mark is 81.4 percent, set by New Mexico in 1985.

The 77.5 percent mark demolishes the previous alltime best shooting percentage against the Dawgs. The previous record was 72.5 percent set by Purdue in December of 1985.

The Jays shoot 80 percent in the second half, tying the alltime best shooting half against SIU in team history. Purdue in that 1985 game also shot 80 percent in the second half.

The Jays shot 75 percent in the first half, which is tied for the 7th best alltime shooting percentage in a half against SIU. When BOTH halves make the top ten, you know this game was bad.

Creighton shoots 12-14 from the arc. In the last two games, SIU has allowed their opponents to shoot a combined 24-26 from three-point range, which is believed to be an alltime NCAA record. No confirmation on that yet.

Creighton's now beaten SIU nine games in a row. The last time SIU beat the Jays? You have to go back to the ESPN GameDay 48-44 slugfest back in January of 2008.

SIU has now lost 38 games over the last two seasons - the most in a two-year span in school history.

BALL STATE

The Cardinals came into the game on a 7-game losing streak and had lost their last 5 home games, but the Salukis never get within 4 points the entire second half and fall, 71-62.

Ball State shoots 10-20 from three point range, so in the last three games, SIU's given up 34 of 46 from the arc... a 74 percent clip.

With the loss, SIU matches the school alltime record for losses in a season, matching the 20-loss years of 1981 and 1986.

DRAKE

SIU sets an alltime loss record for a season with defeat #21, a 78-63 beatdown at Drake. SIU was behind by double digits the entire second half.

SIU shoots 1-16 from the arc. For the season the Dawgs are shooting 28.2 percent from long distance, which is 331st out of 344 teams in the nation.

On the flip side, SIU has allowed its opponents to shoot 39.7 percent from the arc, which is currently the third-highest in the nation.

SIU has a total of 624 fouls on the season, putting them in the top ten in the nation in total fouls and fouls per game.

Because of all the fouls, SIU's opponents have made 525 FT in 751 attempts. Both numbers are among the ten highest in the nation.

SIU has lost 55 times in the last three years, tying a school record for losses over a three-year span (from 1980 to 1983 SIU went 27-55).

Drake has now beaten SIU seven times in a row.

NORTHERN IOWA

SIU loses its home finale, 65-61, extending its record for losses in a season to 22.

INDIANA STATE

Another one-and-done in the Lou, as the Salukis end their season with a 65-51 loss. They end on a 7-game losing streak, which is the longest since 1997.

The 8-23 final mark, or .258 win percentage, is the lowest for the school since 1915, when the school was known as the SINU Maroons (they went 3-12 that year).

And the BIG records:

23 losses - the most in one season in team history, blowing away the previous mark of 20.

42 losses over the past two years - the worst in school history.

57 losses over a three year span - the worst in school history.

75 losses over a four-year span - the worst in school history.

90 losses over the past five years - the worst in school history.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 12:05 PM)
Ha I would say that's true but everytime you call me out on a prediction I end up being right. So you just ruined it.

You only think I guessed wrong! That's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is " involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line"! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha...
