March 21, 201214 yr I agree that it should not be at all about the money, which is why if Im Illinois Im aiming higher than Smart. The only reason Illinois would have any issues is that their football team may not be as profitable as other Big 10 schools and therefore they need to use more of the basketball revenues to pay off the other sports expenses. The reason I say this is because of a 2011 article about Big 10 v SEC in terms of profitability. http://www.kristidosh.com/wp-content/uploa...ancial-Data.pdf http://www.forbes.com/sites/sportsmoney/20...ports-revenues/ Based on their numbers Illinois Athletic Department made $1.3 mil, which is 3rd lowest. If Illinois wants to use athletic budget to pay for the new coach, they likely have about 1-2 mil to add to Weber's salary

March 21, 201214 yr Buzz Williams is way better than Smart. Im not a huge Smart fan though, havoc is great against mid-majors and for 1 and done tournament situations, dont think its going to win out over a Big 10 conference season though.
March 21, 201214 yr Author QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) I'd prefer Stevens over Smart. He's never leaving Butler.
March 21, 201214 yr Author Rumor (started on an Indiana message board no less) that Shaka said thanks but no thanks.
March 21, 201214 yr QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) I'd prefer Stevens over Smart. Has there been any word that he has changed his stance on leaving Butler? I sure haven't heard that.
March 21, 201214 yr QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) He's never leaving Butler. I think he would only leave for the Indiana job.
March 21, 201214 yr Shaka is addressing his players right now. I guess we will find out shortly, but sounds like the answer is no.
March 21, 201214 yr Herb Gould @HerbGould #Shaka says no. Turned down at least $2.5mil from #illini today, multiple sources tell Sun-Times.
March 21, 201214 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) Herb Gould @HerbGould #Shaka says no. Turned down at least $2.5mil from #illini today, multiple sources tell Sun-Times. So who's next?
March 21, 201214 yr He's never leaving Butler. Butler moving to the A-10 certainly makes it more likely that he will stay.
March 21, 201214 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) So who's next? 1. Buzz Williams 2. Gregg Marshall 3. Reggie Theus Anyone else?
March 21, 201214 yr QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) 1. Buzz Williams 2. Gregg Marshall 3. Reggie Theus Anyone else? I saw one mention of Martin from K-State. Any chance that is true?
March 21, 201214 yr QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) He's never leaving Butler. It's who I rate higher, but yea he probably won't leave.
March 21, 201214 yr 1. Buzz Williams 2. Gregg Marshall 3. Reggie Theus Anyone else? As an ND alum, I wholly recommend Illinois hire Mike Brey.
March 21, 201214 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:45 PM) I saw one mention of Martin from K-State. Any chance that is true? I saw that too, I'd be intrigued he can definitely take a mediocre program and put it in the top 25, but his intensity kind of scares me. It's worked thus far there, but is he so over the top that he loses his players would be my concern.
March 21, 201214 yr QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) As an ND alum, I wholly recommend Illinois hire Mike Brey. That would definitely be intriguing, he's a got a pretty good track record at ND.
March 21, 201214 yr That would definitely be intriguing, he's a got a pretty good track record at ND in January and February. Fixed your post.
March 21, 201214 yr QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) Butler moving to the A-10 certainly makes it more likely that he will stay. Did that happen already or is it in the works? All this extra realignment has me lost.
March 21, 201214 yr Did that happen already or is it in the works? All this extra realignment has me lost. Not officially announced yet but supposedly a done deal beginning July 2013.
