Danks being in "too long" against Red Sox doesn't even compare to how long he left Gavin in when they lost at Oakland.

Anybody questioning Ohman being used AT ALL you're nuts. The Sox have TWO guys right now you can trust coming out of the pen. In a lefty-heavy line-up, this was a perfect night for Ohman to pitch. YES...Robin let him go a batter too long, but for those of you saying "why was Ohman pitching at all" you're wrong. Reed and Thornton were going to go the 8th and 9th. Who would you suggest using for the 7th? Santiago? Axelrod? Stewart? Jones?

Ozzie Guillen would have deftly managed through the 7th and 8th and led the Sox to victory, etc. Ozzie Guillen will make the Hall of Fame after his managerial career is over since we provided so much on the job training here in Chicago...whereas Ventura's lucky to make the Oklahoma State Hall of Fame.

With the lefty heavy line-up it would have made more sense to use Thorton situationally. Ohman already pitched last night; it did not make sense for him to pitch so much tonight. Doesn't really matter though as Thorton was terrible.

Everything was fine until he didn't use Thornton to get Kotchmann (when Ohman was clearly wearing down in a multiple inning performance which he's not used to) and then using Reed against their best RBI guy with a runner already on 2nd.

 

Or just bringing in Reed one batter earlier, when the runner was only on 1st and you weren't facing Hannahan. That would have been okay, TOO.

 

I suppose that's good for Reed to get a feel for closing, but not really the ideal position you want to put him in there, that's for sure.

 

The splits for Hannahan R/L were pretty much irrefutable in terms of the right move there (or not).

Sure, let him start the inning. But putting him in there against a guy who's so much better against righties than lefties, it just gave him no wiggle room.

I would have much rather seen Thorton in for two innings than Ohman, sure. It's really not worth arguing over though because all of Reed, Ohman, and Thorton ended up screwing up.
