July 13, 201213 yr I'm guessing he holds down the last spot in the pen until Humber gets back Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales Jhan Marinez recalled from Triple-A Charlotte.
July 13, 201213 yr Author Chicago White Sox @whitesox Marinez, who will wear uniform No. 57, is the 11th rookie & 9th pitcher to appear on the #WhiteSox 25-man roster in 2012.
July 13, 201213 yr Author SoxNet.net @SoxNet Marinez is 2-2 at AAA Charlotte this year, with 3.14era, 47k 43IP 20bb 28h 1.116WHIP 5.9h/9 9.8k/9 4.2bb/9 2.35k/bb.
July 13, 201213 yr Author QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:11 PM) WTF, his numbers are pretty decent. How are we just producing pen arms? From the numbers, he seems to be throwing a ton more strikes this year. His walks per 9 is the lowest he has ever had.
July 13, 201213 yr Author QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:18 PM) Is this guy from the Ozzie Guillen deal? Yes.
July 13, 201213 yr Marinez is 2-2 with a 3.14 ERA in 26 relief appearances spanning 43 innings with Charlotte this season. Batters are hitting just .182 off him, and he has 47 strikeouts. He leaves Charlotte having thrown 13.0 consecutive scoreless innings over his last six outings.
July 13, 201213 yr I thought we had no farm system... We seem to be stacked with rookies that are preforming rather well.
July 13, 201213 yr I'd say we expected someone to be back sooner otherwise Heath would have stayed up Edited July 13, 201213 yr by Jake
July 13, 201213 yr There seems to be a large organizational change this year focusing on the basics of pitching and fielding. I dont understand how all of a sudden we have 6-7 rookie pen arms that seem to be pretty good at flat out getting guys out.
July 13, 201213 yr QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) I'm losing track of the bullpen. Who are these f***ing guys?
July 13, 201213 yr Author QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:33 PM) There seems to be a large organizational change this year focusing on the basics of pitching and fielding. I dont understand how all of a sudden we have 6-7 rookie pen arms that seem to be pretty good at flat out getting guys out. This happened at the lower levels when Buddy Bell took over. The problem is those kind of changes take years to have an effect on the major league team. Also with Ventura coming in, you are seeing the change with the major leaguers who were already here.
July 13, 201213 yr The Trib article says we traded Ozzie Martinez to the Dodgers on Monday. For who or what? Anybody know?
July 13, 201213 yr QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) The Trib article says we traded Ozzie Martinez to the Dodgers on Monday. For who or what? Anybody know? Cash considerations.
July 13, 201213 yr Author QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) The Trib article says we traded Ozzie Martinez to the Dodgers on Monday. For who or what? Anybody know? We traded him for cash. The Sox had removed him from the 40 man roster about a month ago, because he was terrible. When they waived him, no one claimed him. The Dodgers were in a situation where they needed a warm body for AAA, which is why the deal was done.
July 13, 201213 yr Author QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 02:05 PM) Seems a bit odd with Heath never getting into a game - or did he and I missed it? It allowed him to pitch during real games while the ASB was going on. It also allowed the Sox to only be paying a major league salary to 24 players during that time.

I just hadn't heard anything about this.

A week later they decide they like Marinez better?
July 13, 201213 yr QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) Sure, but why the switch from Heath to Marinez, both RHP, w/o seeing Heath at the MLB level? A week later they decide they like Marinez better? I'm thinking they thought Crain or Bruney would be available. When the weren't they couldn't recall Heath because he wasn't down long enough.

A week later they decide they like Marinez better? Once you send someone down, you aren't allowed to recall them for 10 days without someone going on the DL. This isn't because they like one guy or the other better. It is just roster flexing around the schedule. Marinez will only be here for four days until Humber gets recalled.
