White Sox trade Osvaldo Martinez to LAD for cash.

And thus kills the return for Ozzie Guillen!

Dodgers acquired INF Osvaldo Martinez from the White Sox for cash considerations.

Martinez, who was acquired from the Marlins last September as part of the Ozzie Guillen deal, was hitting just .178 with zero homers and a .450 OPS over 230 plate appearances with Triple-A Charlotte this season. The 24-year-old will serve as organizational depth.

Really thought he would make this team. Fell off completely this year it seems.

1. Trade Ozzie Guillen for prospects

2. Trade prospects for cash

3. ???

4. Profit

Eh. Cash is better then nothing.

Odds are it is just an expired gift card to Sbarro's that Kenny is going to try to sneak by using.

Who would pay for this guy? I bet the Dodgers stop payment before JR gets the check to the bank. Either that or the Dodgers are endorsing an MF Global check over to the Sox.

If only this were how it worked.

Okay.

I really want to know how much he fetches. The Red Sox probably got more for Babe Ruth, non-inflation adjusted.

This should allow some middle infielders in the system to move up.

It rules everything around me.

This was clearly a win for KW. ;)

I am so glad he didnt give up good prospects for this guy, like he always does

Jhan Marinez still remains. Osvaldo sucked anyway.

This is the deal that puts us over the top...

No one cares who we got for Ozzie. We could have gotten Tyler Williams and it would have been a win for this franchise.

Osvaldo was maybe the greatest player to come from Porterville Community College.

The Dodgers have no AAA SS. When Dee Gordon hit the DL, they called up the last player at AAA resembling a serviceable infielder.

They will likely release him as soon as Gordon is back (which could be a while).

Didn't they have a hotsot SS propect a few years back that was supposed to set MLB on fire. I think his name was Liu or something along those lines. Just goes to show how many of those "can't miss" propspects actually miss. Is that Philly OF playing this year, Brown? Who would've though Juan Pierre would be playing OF and hitting over .300 and Brown is yet to be heard from. Then you have guys like Quintana and Nate Jones come out of nowhere and have big time success.

24 teams passed on Mike Trout.

Was Osvaldo on the 40 man? I should have checked before the roster got updated.

They had waived him off of it a while back. No one claimed him when they had the chance.

Maybe you mean Chin-lung Hu? He absolutely raked in the minors and after getting called up, proceeded to suck. He wasn't very good. Ended up on the Mets (and I think the Cubs) and is now meddling in independent baseball somewhere.

In other Dodgers minor league news, Josh Fields is tearing up the PCL to the tune of 346/412/515 (including a .442 BA in his last 10 games).

With the Dodgers woes at 3B, Josh has to be wondering what else he needs to do to get the call. They've been nearly as bad as the White Sox pre-Youkilis production at 3B.
