White Sox unlikely to pick up Peavy's option

Featured Replies

They're not going to decline a one year option, eat $4 million, then turn around and give him another $30 million.

They might as well just exercise the option if they're planning to do that.

With how he's pitched the last two months, good but not great like in the first half, and with TONS of wear and tear on him thanks to numerous extended starts by Ventura/Cooper, you simply can't take that risk.

Still over paying for reputation.

Exactly.

If Peavy goes out there tonight like a Buehrle, Garcia and Garland did in 2005 and just completely shut down a dominant Angels' offense, then you start to believe in him a little more.

But he's never shown the ability to do that with the White Sox.

You have to have the $13 million to pay him... Considering the crowds haven't matched the 1st place for 100+ days of the season, it could be difficult. Cross your fingers and pray for a deep playoff run.

Can't argue with the attendance being poor, but the Sox overhead can't be that bad. The Reinsdorf group bought the team in the early 80's, so they don't have a big payment (if any) to make. They also don't have a stadium payment to make because they didn't build the stadium. So, what are their costs? The way I see it, they get tv money, merchandising, tickets, parking, etc., and they only have to worry about making enough to pay the team, costs to operated the team, and team employees.

He definitely seems to be getting worse with every start. Overused arm?

U think there's any way the Cubs sign him? Doesn't Theo need a complete overhaul and Cubs have money?

Yes, there is a decent chance the Cubs sign him.

He has pitched pretty well this year overall. But we need to move forward IMO. You just can never count on him being healthy long term.
