When I was a kid I typically had a dozen or more tennis balls laying around somewhere. I would always find them at the park near my house.

 

Some of the best times of my childhood were had by hitting them around my yard with a baseball bat or throwing them onto the sloped roof of my house and catching it.

And those times were always more fun than being stuck with a Wii U and hoping that magic would make it have new games to play on it.

The only reason I wanted Madden 13 was because I wanted to play with Mario Williams, and that ended quickly. This year, I just want to play with EJ. I think I'm better off holding my money because I'm still playing Madden 12 online. It's awesome with the Pats because I catch touchdowns with Hernandez and yell "MURDERAH" and it pisses people off.

Everyone should get the Amazon exclusive Madden - $100 bucks that includes Sunday Ticket and RedZone for "free" (or $40 instead of the $200+ it'll cost you if you're a DirecTV subscriber. I might not even play the game and still be happy with that purchase.

 

Edit: Most of the reviews - IGN's boner for EA titles aside - are pretty harsh (Gamespot 6.0/10), mainly for being the same as last year. I really have to wonder how in the hell these reviewers have given any good scores for that game. It's been a reboot since 2000.

It didnt'. The mistake that was the Wii purchase made me slightly annoyed until I got someone to give me $300 on Craigslist and turned that into a brand new PS3 that's been humming for 4 years since and plays state-of-the-art games.

 

Then the WiiU came out and some goofy fools fell for the same joke. Nintendo needs to get in the act of just making their superb games (the few they bother with) and making them available on all platforms.

If that's all they're hanging their hat on, that's sad. New animations and rosters aren't worth $60 a year. I guarantee you if EA didn't have the exclusive license Madden would be a much better, more polished game.

I forgot the Wii U even existed. Even my kids who are constantly playing DS games or PS3 games (and even break out their N64 or GC at times) have zero interest in the Wii U.

What's stupid about Madden is that they don't even push any limits anymore. Last year's game was like "oh let's make you level up players individually" which jesus that doesn't make me want to play, that makes me want to shoot myself. Or there were whatever other modes you could play in, as just the one player or whatever.

 

Perhaps allowing you to create custom plays, or multiple hot route sets, or multiple audibles, or making defenses respect the pump fake more. OR BRINGING GUS JOHNSON BACK.

 

I will say, last year's engine was quite a bit different than previous iterations. I hated it.

Same. My buddies and I used to play "court ball", which was just baseball in a culdesac, but we used tennis balls. We were always losing them with homeruns in to other people's backyards. And then on our "off days" I used to stand at the edge of my driveway and practice hitting certain spots on the garage door with my pitches. I wonder if my parents ever took a picture of our garage door before they bought a new one, because there were AT LEAST 100+ dents in it from not only myself pitching at it, but my 2 brothers and I playing hockey up against it throughout our whole childhood. There was a distinct like 4x4 square in the middle where there were hardly any dents because that's where the dent stood. Haha.

After purchasing every single Madden from like '98 until 2010, I have stopped buying them and don't regret that decision at all. I wish 2K could get back in to the fray.

EA really does need competition. The exclusive deal has made them complacent. Hell, I would be happy with a non NFL football game with made up teams and such. some of those games were really fun when I was growing up.

My thing from last years game was that they still refuse to fix the f***ing blocking. I'll have a wonderful counter play to the outside with one defensive back on the outside and the full back in front of me. Everyone else is blocked. So what's the fullback do? He goes to help block a linebacker and I get nailed behind the line of scrimmage. I think it was either joytiq or kotaku that did a review and they have a video of the exact same thing happening in this current version. How is that still happening literally 25 years after the start of the franchise?

They made one like 2 years ago that was going to revolutionize football games. But it didn't sell. You want to play the Bears (or whatever team you root for) not random football teams/players.
