He didn't pitch more innings with Rockies because they released him.

They basically released Jeremy Guthrie too, who also turned into a good pitcher for the Royals. I trust the Royals more.

I really like this signing. Classic high reward/low risk move.

So does this take Webb/Petricka out of next years pen?

While it hasn't been addressed explicitly, I was thinking he was going to battle for the 5th spot in the rotation? Have you (or anyone) heard otherwise?

I'm drinking with a disturbingly large portion of the planets geoscientists this week and learned about this 20 minutes ago, so if he's not a reliever I'm very confused.

Sounds like a KW inspired deal.

No, this move was made with the intention of Paulino starting. The Sox have indicated they expect him ready for day 1, but he had a set back in his rehab last year, so it may be closer to May 1st. Either way, I think this move is more of an indication that the Sox plan on moving Santiago/Danks/Quintana or starting Johnson in the minors rather than any sort of effect on the bullpen. Hahn seemed to indicate that they felt the option was the key to the deal.

I think we plan on having him start when healthy
