The Humility thread

Featured Replies

Ok over the years on Soxtalk we have all had our moments of incredible wrongness, so what are yours?

The two big ones that jump off for me were thinking that Jeff Bajenaru deserved a call up before Bobby Jenks, and then being REALLY pissed at the Danks/McCarthy trade.

I called Jake Peavy a p**** (on my facebook status) when he first declined to come here!

I argued that Jerry Owens would be a superstar. FTW.

I really liked the first Swisher trade.

Gavin Floyd :o

I really liked the first Swisher trade.

Twas exciting at the time...

I thought Sean Tracey was going to have a good career as a reliever.

Brian Anderson was going to be the next Eric Davis...He even wore 44!!

I thought Gordon Beckham was going to be as good as Ryne Sandberg....and that was before he got called up.

Was looking good going into 2010, then something happened.

Ryan Meaux

I called Lucas Harrell a #3 starter coming up in the organization & argued he was a far superior prospect than Broadway. Then Harrell came up here & was relentlessly shat upon, which made me even more proud when he went on to have success with the Astros. But now he still can't throw strikes.

The biggest prospect I think I've ever really believed in here who busted hard was Josh Fields. I would have done whatever I had to do to get Crede out of here and keep Fields starting after his rookie year. But obviously that didn't work out.

I've like a few lesser guys who didn't make it. I definitely thought Ehren Wassermann was going to be a valuable right specialist for us in the mold of a Chad Bradford. Nope. I also thought Zach Stewart was going to be a solid SP if not a #3, but he obviously took a major step back. I liked Stewart back then more than I like Johnson now, so I hope Johnson works out.

I thought Philip Humber had really figured it out, especially after the perfect game, and he went on to do absolutely nothing.

Let's go back and remember all these "AJ's OPS is so easy to replace" arguments where posters put forth the idea that Flowers would be a better player than AJ and blah blah blah it would all happen so quick. I really want to point that one out because that was really dumb and lasted for a while. Not as bad as the Dan Hudson love fest though.

Yes, I thought Tyler Flowers was going to be good too.

I think I was the biggest advocate of trading for ManRam.

Thread should have started with the definition of humility. I can tell you this because I know everything.

That was never the argument. It was about giving Flowers a chance to prove himself instead of spending money on AJ again. It wasn't Flowers >>>>> AJ. But I guess this is the right thread to be posting incorrect statements.

I thought Jermaine Dye was a mistake.

He looked like it for the first couple months too. Jermaine Dead.

I thought the second Konerko and Pierzynski extensions were mistakes.

AJ's the point of this whole forum.

I thought the 2013 white sox would be competitive and continue their strong fundamental play we saw in 2012.

However, I was saying in 2004 that there was a monstrous credit bubble building that would seriously damage the economy before 2008, so that's still the flower in my cap.

And I also drunkenly ranted in March of 2005 how I really loved the setup of that White Sox team.

I was definitely in that group.
