Got a little too cute walking Danks. Semien crushed it. Good thing Balta wasn't managing again because Semien wouldn't have been leading off.

Kind of but he kept throwing curve balls and hung one. Good AB by Semien

Marcus!

This would be a great time for our hitting to heat back up with a 4 game series against the Tigers next.

Lets see if belly can throw that nasty stuff not directly over the middle of the plate.

Did DeAza have two strikes on him when he was hit? The only thing I can come up with is they called it a strike because he got hit by a pitch in the strikezone (he's standing on top of the plate).

Hit by Pitch

When a Batter Should Not be Awarded First Base

It may seem obvious when a batter is hit by a pitch and awarded first base, but there are some cases where a base may not be awarded.

If the ball touches the batter as the batter swings at the ball. This basically means that if the batter is swinging at the ball and the act of swinging has caused the ball to hit the batter, then the ball is a strike. Example: Batter swings and the ball hits him on the forearm as he's swinging. The ball is dead and it is a strike. If the hitter has two strikes, it is strike 3 not a foul ball. This isn't called often as most of the time the player will stop the swing and be hit by the ball. In that case most umpires will determine that the player is attempting to get out of the way by not continuing the swing. So, even though the act of swinging has caused the ball to hit the batter, the umpire may determine that player attempted to get out of the way and award the batter first base.

Ok Belisario let's do this.

Time for the 'pen to blow it

I think Johnson could have at least started this inning when we are up by 6 and he just had a 1-2-3 inning.. I don't understand what Robin is doing

Weird to take EJ out even with him being doody today.

That reminds me. Haven't seen much of Gallons lately.

Got too disheartened by only being able to make enthusiastic puns in 20% of his at-bats

wtf

Pen starting off great

Why did we take Johnson out

Good thing we have a 6 run lead

Johnson coming off his best inning at 87 pitches. Why would you give this pen an extra inning to screw it up?

Why did we take Johnson out

Because Robin thinks our bullpen is lights out.

Erik only had 87 pitches lol

Weird, pen not too far removed from several heavy outings, 6-run lead. And also on paper one of the better pen arms (poor start notwithstanding) throwing in a really low-leverage situation.

Robin has been horrible with the bullpen and pitching changes this year. It doesn't make sense to take out your starter when you are up by 6 and he has only let up 1 hit, 87 pitches, and just came off his best outing. And our bullpen has been awful this year, they might be rested but that doesn't mean you cut your starter short.

Robin continues to confuse me.

He's always been horrible at it, to be fair.
