Abreu 1 of 2 players considered for final HR derby spot

That means that only one member of the remaining top five home run hitters in the league will be added to Bautista's side. He has a choice of Baltimore's Nelson Cruz (28), the White Sox's Jose Abreu (27), and Detroit's Victor Martinez (21).

Cruz turned down a spot so safe to say it won't be him.

For some reason mlb is dragging this on until Thursday.

No word on who Brian Dozier blew to get in.

Brian Dozier?

I guess Kent Hrbek wasn't available.

Well he's got 16 homers and I think he was picked since it is in his home stadium.

Bingo. Twins fans may have gone all Royals-fans circa 2012 on Bautista if he didn't pick Dozier.

Nope. Josh Donaldson gets the final spot

How does the major league leader in home runs not be one of 10 guys asked to participate in a home run derby???????

He didn't want it. I think if he wanted it, he would be there no doubt

OK, I never saw any story stating that he declined. I know there is all this stuff about the derby messing with your swing, but I still would have liked to watch him. He is the only thing that would have made listening to Chris Berman tolerable.

I agree, selfishly I wanted him there. Maybe next season they will convince him to do it.

If I'm not mistaken, he has hit 40+ homers since the ALG last season.

he is a legit power threat.

On another Sox note, the Sox bullpen has been selected to pitch the homerun derby!
