February 6, 201511 yr I just learned the jackets at my school are over $400. Wow. What did y'all pay for yours and when? Obviously my $50 in 1979 isn't a fair comparison.
February 6, 201511 yr I think they were about $300 in 2008 for my school, maybe $350. They weren't cheap at all, not many people bought them because of that. Actually, more girls bought them (or at least wore them to school) from what I remember.

February 6, 201511 yr I graduated in 2010. But, I played for a travel baseball team, and we had left over money, so our coach bought us all letterman jackets for our respective high schools. The letterman jacket did cost around 400 bucks.
February 6, 201511 yr Not many people bought them or worse them at my high school. I never got one and I dont' remember the cost but it was steep. Same thing with school rings.
February 6, 201511 yr I have no clue. I have the letter but didnt bother with the jacket. Probably for the best since my parents bought me a senior ring for like $300 and probably wore it like 3 times.
February 7, 201511 yr I'm not sure they're as popular as they used to be. I graduated high school in 2006 and I never bought one, nor did most of the guys at my school. And I don't recall the friends I had at other schools wearing them.
February 7, 201511 yr Author I understand there will be a less expensive option for this year. I'm not certain what it will look like. I may create a team jacket since none of my players have bought a varsity jacket. They would rather buy a new driver for $400 than a jacket. The other difference from when I was in school in Illinois is here you only qualify to buy one if you have earned a varsity letter. We could buy one freshman year and would sew on our freshman numbers (grad year), then you would earn a sophomore letter (smaller than varsity, then to complete the look a varsity letter with devices for each sport or, keep sewing on each letter. To really complete the third world general look, the track and cross country runners would add the medals we won and walk down the halls jingling like Noriega at a state dinner.

February 10, 201511 yr I graduated in 2002. We had the option of getting them but I cannot remember ever seeing a single member of my eighty person graduating class wearing one. I want to say the cost was around $75-$150 depending on which version you got but the cheap ones were pretty cheesy looking and maybe that's why nobody got them. My sister was three years older and it seemed like her entire class wore them. Edited February 10, 201511 yr by lasttriptotulsa
