July 31, 201510 yr QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:27 PM) That offense is just lethal. So you aked what team had a single hole in their offense. I think the jays don't have any holes now
July 31, 201510 yr Wow. If you are Kenny and Hahn, you can't be looking at things in a vacuum. You have to be looking at your forecasted club vs. the Jays forecasted club (as well as Baltimore and the Twins). Revere would have been a nice long-term get. I presume Jays will have given up something good to get him.

July 31, 201510 yr QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) He's a rental Baseball Reference has him arbitration eligible in 16 & 17. He isn't a free agent until 2018.
July 31, 201510 yr Good grief, the leagues best offense just added Tulo and Revere over the last few days. Look out Yankees! Edited July 31, 201510 yr by BlackSox13

July 31, 201510 yr QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) Good grief, the leagues best offense just added Tulo and Revere over the last few days. Look out Yankees! Actually the white sox too cause they are ahead of them in wild card standings
July 31, 201510 yr QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) Revere's upside is more in his defense, but he is a solid offensive player as well. Definitely. Revere's speed should help the top of the order too.
July 31, 201510 yr QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:36 AM) Definitely. Revere's speed should help the top of the order too. Its why I think Revere would have been a real nice fit. No idea how they'd play but one of him or Eaton in RF'er would give us tons of range. I presume it would be Revere in RF as I think he has a better arm then Spanky.
July 31, 201510 yr QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) Its why I think Revere would have been a real nice fit. No idea how they'd play but one of him or Eaton in RF'er would give us tons of range. I presume it would be Revere in RF as I think he has a better arm then Spanky. Normally I think the Sox would have gone after a bat like Revere's but with the lack of power they seem bent on finding a power bat. I would take Revere despite the lack of power since he would upgrade the defense but the Sox have other ideas. Hope those ideas are good ones.

He's basically Juan Pierre if Juan could defend. I know Eaton is showing more power this season but do you really want those 2 guys in the same outfield?

July 31, 201510 yr Author QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:42 PM) Good god. that's a video game. When you have a .304 hitter with pop batting 9th, your lineup better be pretty damn good.
July 31, 201510 yr QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) He's basically Juan Pierre if Juan could defend. I know Eaton is showing more power this season but do you really want those 2 guys in the same outfield? Building our team around pitching, I absolutely could live with it. This isn't the steroid era. I'll take productive players and both Eaton and Revere are productive players. I also think they make the pitching staff better and when you think of who Revere is replacing, it isn't that big of a deal. We clearly would want to find a longer term power source at 3B though but yes, I could live with a relative lack of home runs in this era. I want the team to have good players and in my mind, Ben Revere is a good player. I also never had any issues with Juan Pierre, even though he was a slap happy single hitter. I think he was underappreciated for a long time in his career (unfortunately, by the time he got to the Sox, he wasn't very good anymore). I've always felt that stat people underappreciate single hitters with no power. Especially in the case of Pierre where his defense didn't drive strong value. Revere has an OPS > .700 which isn't bad for a slap hitter. In fact, it is better then Avi's and it doesn't even consider the value of defense, etc.

He was a hero after the 2003 marlins. Everyone wanted two speedy guys batting 1-2.

Revere has arguably the worst outfield arm in baseball.

July 31, 201510 yr QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:49 AM) Revere has arguably the worst outfield arm in baseball. Problem with my logic is I don't think much of Eaton's arm either. And I don't really like the idea of the Melk man in RF. Eaton would play fine in left, just not sure I'd like him in right but I probably overvalue the importance of an arm. You are right on Revere...it isn't to the levels of Juan Pierre or Johnny Damon though. They had arms like me.
July 31, 201510 yr QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) By the sabs, he was nothing but an awful player. Juan Pierre had 4.2 and 4.0 WAR in 2003 and 2004 with 110 wRC+ and 100 wRC+. Those peak two years of Pierre were great and I'd be very surprised if Ben Revere manages to post those sorts of numbers. Pierre's defense graded out as solid to great for the first ~7 years of his career before there was a quick dropoff to well below average.
