June 3, 20169 yr 1/3 of the season in the books. Let's hand out some 1/3 season award winners for each league.... AL CY - Jose Quintana (Give him the edge over Sale for consistency) AL MVP - Mike Trout (Give him the edge over Machado for BB% and SB) AL ROY - Nomar Mazara (Seems to be a wide open race though) NL CY - Clayton Kershaw (Syndergaard is 2nd, but it's not even that close) NL MVP - Ben Zobrist (Daniel Murphy needs to walk more and not suck on defense) NL ROY - Corey Seager (But Steven Matz is pretty incredible too, Kenta Maeda fading)
June 3, 20169 yr Quintana isn't beating Sale for the Cy Young, sorry. I love Q, but Sale has been better is just about every category other than ERA (and even that is pretty close).
June 3, 20169 yr http://espn.go.com/mlb/features/cyyoung I'm not sure their methodology, but Sale is clearly 1st in AL and NL goes Arrieta, Strasburg, Cueto and Kershaw. That's nutty, I can see Arrieta, MAYBE...but Kershaw has 30 more K's than him. Of course, Jeff Samardzija is 6th.

I mean, come on.
June 3, 20169 yr QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 11:36 PM) I believe Kershaw has more complete game shutouts this year than he does walks. I mean, come on. The Dodgers would just be buried in the standings behind the Giants without Kershaw. He's also the most valuable player as an individual to his team, for sure. He's the only stabilizing force keeping things together, without Anderson, McCarthy, Ryu, etc. It's inexplicable why they keep trotting out a 19 year old phenom at this point in Urias when he's clearly struggling to deal with the transition and especially against an offense like the Chicago Cubs right now.
June 3, 20169 yr Author QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 11:47 PM) Quintana isn't beating Sale for the Cy Young, sorry. I love Q, but Sale has been better is just about every category other than ERA (and even that is pretty close). Quintana better in BB/9, K/BB, HR/9, ERA, FIP, xFIP, WAR. Or as you said....just ERA.

They not only include wins and losses, but also "bonus points" for players on divisional leading teams. It's a garbage system, ignore it.
June 3, 20169 yr QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 01:22 AM) Quintana better in BB/9, K/BB, HR/9, ERA, FIP, xFIP, WAR. Or as you said....just ERA. Yup, right now Q has been the best pitcher in the AL. Sale basically had one bad start that put even a slight amount of distance between the two.
June 3, 20169 yr AL CY- Chris Sale (wins might not matter, but Sale's record along with his still low ERA and how far he's pitching into games wins it for him) AL MVP- David Ortiz (the farewell tour of a legendary Red Sock with the way he's playing, it's not even close) AL ROY- Michael Fulmer (it's him or Mazara, no one else is close- so do you favor the OF with power and a .290s BA, or the SP with a low 3 ERA?) NL CY- Daniel Murphy (he's hitting .394- I'll ignore defense for the moment) NL MVP- Clayton Kershaw (K/BB is 21. Twenty f***ing one.) NL ROY- Aledmys Diaz (provides a so-far great bat at a premium position; if he cools off significantly, it goes to Matz)
June 3, 20169 yr If the season ended today, I'd definitely vote Q over Chris. That said, I guarantee it would end up the other way at the moment.
