Nick Hostetler said in his interview with FutureSox that he got texts from five different organizations that were ready to draft Call after the Sox grabbed in the 3rd. Funny how on draft day he seemed like a reach but in reality he might of actually been a steal.

 

That was a great anecdote. Sounds like these guys and a fantasy draft aren't that different. We give each other crap about Oh I was going to draft that guy next... And here are scouting directors doing the same thing.

Is Jameson Fisher hurt?

I've sent out requests for info on that, will post here if they tell me anything useful.

 

Drafting insiders in the 30s (as well as other prospects they know they have zero chance of signing) probably won't hurt much, but it's indicative of the culture of this org. Keeping the family happy remains way too high a priority. And they just aren't all-in in building the org.

 

As for KW Jr., who the Sox drafted twice (a courtesy pick in the mid 30s out of high school) , that trickles down. Ozzie went on one of his public rants when his son (not sure which -Ozney or Olney) was drafted later than he would have liked and didn't receive the sweetheart bonus that Jr did.

 

Even with that, I don't think anything tops Ron Scheuler drafting his daughter.

Eh. It happens. The Mariners just drafted Griffey III this year in the 24th round. (KG's number was 24, and being retired this year). The kid hasn't played baseball since Jr High.

 

Is Jameson Fisher hurt?

As reported on the FS Twitter feed, Fisher has a mild shoulder injury from a diving play in the outfield. No DL trip, he's day to day. That's from the GF radio guy.

 

Just spoke to Pat Cashman's brother, he is shut down the for the rest of the season. Arm injury, inflamed tendons. Almost back to 100%, but want him to come back ready for ST.
