He basically said everything perfectly and didn't put the blame on anyone but where it should go -- at the ENTIRE ORG. There needs to be sweeping changes. I also like that he pointed out how much less success Cooper is having finding "his guys". June 20, 20169 yr It put pen to paper the general feeling that the sox have made a ton of moves to basically be in a worse place than they would be if they made no moves at all (in regard to depth/salary/production)

And that there isn't much that can be done, because do you want the same guy who made those counterproductive moves conducting a fire sale?
June 20, 20169 yr Yes, basically a year after saying "At least we didn't do what the Padres did" we ended up basically doing what the Padres did.

I agree, sox are in a much better position provided the whole front office and pro scouting goes and they move their assets. If & when that happens they would be well served paying the majority of the contracts they move for better returns since its dead money and they won't be a player in free agency in the short term. A sox rebuild isn't with out its own set of issues but at least its a direction instead of what we've witnessed during the Hahn era, and they could get back to contention in a short period of time based off the haul Sale, Quintana, Eaton & Abreu should provide.
June 20, 20169 yr Yeah, SD is really screwed being in the same division as LAD and SFG. The AL Central doesn't have two huge revenue producing machines like that...even AZ/Colorado are much more well-off than teams like the Indians/Twins/White Sox in terms of attendance/revenue generation. KC and Cincy, as far as I can recall, are the two smallest media markets in the US. All things considered, it's pretty remarkable the Padres are pretty significantly outdrawing the Orioles and Mariners this season.
June 21, 20169 yr Such a great article. Hahn honestly might be the biggest issue that needs to be solved in the whole organization. Hard to be worse than he's been the last two seasons.
June 21, 20169 yr Hahn is great at two things. 1) Contract negotiations with younger players in pre-arb. 2) Speaking to the press without saying anything at all, which comes from his Harvard Law School training Everything else, not so much. What's going to be really hilarious will be Hahn getting fired and JR deciding to "save" Ventura because the team's playing relatively well in the other games NOT started by Shields.
