96 mph with a nasty slider. He looks great.

He's basically an old man player (Power, low average, no D) and he isn't even hitting his very low ceiling. Nice pick off by ReyLo

Continuing our collective lovefest for Cesar right now.

    GT 8/11: SOX @ MIN, 12:10

This broadcast reminds me of a more adult version of the Nickelodeon playoffs broadcast that the Bears had last year.

Dig the red glove ReyLo has used.
  6. I think Grandal is one of those guys you don't realize you miss until he is gone. Thank god he's back soon.

Rodon to IL with Shoulder Fatigue

Thinking out loud here but is it possible that having to swing the bat contributed to this? I know one of deGrom's numerous IL trips was caused by having to swing the bat and then he complained about soreness in his arm. Carlos likely hasn't taken any at bats for at least three years now, probably four? His velocity was great on Saturday. He was still touching 97 when he came out.

Of course he goes one, two, three against us. Get em tomorrow.

My namesake is up in the bullpen. Should be an adventure in the ninth.

Cesar Hernandez is getting on base for the Sox

I feel like Cesar is destined to become a fan favourite around the South Side.

    Benetti out with breakthrough Covid

The good news is it seems that vaccinated people are far less likely to have a serious case. I know vaccinated people who contracted it who said they had mild symptoms for a few days and that was it. Benetti was high risk, if I recall.

Sox Acquire Kimbrel; Madrigal, Heuer to Cubs

It's a good problem to have right? The reason I like Dallas to start is he is typically good for three or four innings. I think Cease's stuff is pretty electric but using him in relief in the playoffs might allow us to avoid the worst of him. Was at the start at Yankee Stadium where he no hit the Yankees for four innings before getting shelled. I'm also just skeptical of using someone with a fastball that doesn't top 80mph in a high leverage relief situation in the playoffs. Also, on another topic, hoping the Sox win the ALDS at Yankee Stadium so I can go and watch their fans be miserable. Having lived in NYC for nearly a decade, they are the worst.

Sox Acquire Kimbrel; Madrigal, Heuer to Cubs

I also just think that Heur and Madrigal weren't helping us win games this year. Kimbrel will. He also just makes the rest of the guys better. Bummer has pitched much better since Kimbrel's arrival. I'm already picturing game 4 of the ALDS. Keuchel for 4. Cease in the fifth, Bummer in the sixth, Kopech in the seventh, Kimbrel in the eighth, and Hendriks slams the door. Other team ain't scoring on us.

Sox Acquire Kimbrel; Madrigal, Heuer to Cubs

Someone posted this but apparently Kimbrel has allowed 3 or more runs within the first five or six appearances he has had on a new team. It might mean nothing but it also could just mean it sometimes takes him a second to adjust to a new setting. Could have just been amped to face his old team. He looked great in his games against Cleveland. And looked solid on Saturday.

Cesar Hernandez is getting on base for the Sox

Dude's a ballplayer. He also hustles as much as Nick. And his baseball smarts are just much better at this point. Really good pick up.

    Sox at Twins 8/9, 7:10

I love how the more you go down the rabbit hole, the more obscure and interesting things you can find about Buehrle's numbers.

Yeah! Remember that. I swear he did it against Cleveland. Buehrle was an artist when it came to that pickoff.

    Sox at Twins 8/9, 7:10

If this is the only hit he gives up, that sucks. Anyone remember when Buehrle faced the minimum against Cleveland and gave up only one hit? I think it was 04, the same game Magglio got hurt but not entirely sure.

One thing I definitely trust TLR with is handling guys down the stretch into the post-season. I think he will get the balance between keeping guys fresh and also giving them days off. Vaughn has been our MVP so far this year without a doubt, at least amongst position players. And some of that I think is definitely due to the way TLR has used him.

    Rey Lo Looking Good!

I've always liked ReyLo and refused to believe that his really good 2018 was a fluke. He looks like a completely different pitcher right now. Way more confident. I wonder what work he did with Katz in Spring Training. Whatever he's doing, it's working, and I absolutely think if he keeps this up, he'll be on the playoff roster. Also will be key in spelling Carlos and other starters if need be before the playoffs.

Sox Acquire Kimbrel; Madrigal, Heuer to Cubs

I love Nick Madrigal. I was at the Yankees-Sox game in New York where he got the half swing base hit RBI and will always relish how ballistic the Yankee fans around me were when that happened. Having said all that, right now, I think Hernandez is a very clear upgrade over Madrigal. From what I've seen of him both with the Guardians and now here, he has a lot of baseball smarts (something Madrigal lacked) and he is just a much more dynamic player. He's also a better fielder. Yeah he's in our good graces right now but he's a legitimate power threat and can also shorten up his swing if the situation calls for it. If he keeps playing this way, I think it's a no brainer that the White Sox exercise that option. Sox are in a position that we have been craving for since this rebuild started. Right now it’s time to think less about 2023 and 2024 and think about how we win a World Series this year and maybe next. Kimbrel is a hall of famer and gives the team a lockdown 8th inning guy and possibly 9th inning guy, depending on Liam’s status and matchups. But I also think Hernandez is a guy who will be key in the postseason and possibly next year. He’s an All Star caliber player. I also just think something that hasn't been talked about as much with Kimbrel is that since his arrival, he's made all of our pitchers in the bullpen better. Bummer has been lights out since that trade. It's probably a relief to him since there is less pressure on him to be THE GUY in the eighth and he's now simply being asked to perform a role on a championship caliber team. Same with Liam, who has been great throughout the season, but has pitched like a man possessed since that trade was made. It's a small sample size but I do think the trade has a positive effect and it ripples down throughout the bullpen. Bottom line, I think it's ok for a trade for a major impact player like Kimbrel to hurt a bit. That's the cost for getting the best reliever on the planet who we still have control of next year. But I also think the loss of Madrigal next year is being greatly overstated. If Hernandez continues to rake like he has been for the Sox, it's a no brainer in bringing him back, but there are also a ton of 2nd Baseman available next year as well.
  23. Hi. Long time lurker, first time poster. Posting here because I'm in Chicago from New York for the next week and am a die hard White Sox fan. Was looking for places to watch the Cubs-Sox games this weekend. Any bars in particular that people might recommend. Ideally, this would be a place that has outdoor seating and televisions outdoors as I'm staying with someone who is pretty high risk and want to be extra cautious, although as someone who is vaccinated, if I have to go indoors I can. Also excuse the name. I signed up for an account last year but never got around till posting now. But I always had a fascination with Alex Colome and the way he positioned his hat (and he was a damn good closer here before he imploded for the Twins which makes him a White Sox legend in my book). Anyways, if anybody has any recommendations, that would be sweet. I haven't really lived in Chicago for about 15 years and so I'm a bit out of the loop. Cheers and what a great time it is to be alive and watching White Sox baseball. This is everything I could have hoped for during that rebuild.

Best bars to watch the games this weekend?

I ended up going to the The Ballpark Pub near Comiskey (sorry I will never call it Guaranteed Rate Field) and it was great. Nice outdoor patio and great atmosphere and cheap drinks. Also amazing brisket sliders. Thanks for the recommendations. Going to the game with my fiend tomorrow who is a Cubs fan and it's her bday. But will probably try one of the places you all recommended for Sunday's game. And yes. It's funny how my graduating and leaving Chicago coincided with the White Sox last great era ending
