  1. Well, I think this sucks. Your basically 1 million a part on a decent defensive second baseman who wants to play in chicago. It is implied in the article that a one year deal could be worked out. What is this deferred bulls***. I wouldn't work for defferred money in my job. Also Harris Blows. He will never hit over 240. Williams thinks this guy is something special. He sucks. If he is the leadoff hitter we are in serious trouble. Alomar brings respect to the lineup. Pitchers still worry about him even though he has tailed off. In addition everyone stated how great Valentin played short because of the Robbie presence. Well what does the Harris presence do for you. Nothing. Will valentin be as good defensively as last year. Nope. Therefore this ripple effect could cost them games both offensively and defensively. That certainly doesn't bode well for a pitching staff. This is all over 1 million dollars and defferred money. If I were Colon I would be looking at this carefully. I would check and see who would be playing behind me. Lets see: Valentin Harris Crede- not bad but still learning. Who knows who is at first. Alomar solidifies that infield defensively. He wants to work for guillen and he and colon get along. Again all over 1 million dollarsand defferred bulls***. I have defended the Sox org for along time. It is bothersome that both were so close on a one year deal. Both have differnet stories. Terrific communication that is. Now I truly believe this is a cheap, cheap way to do business. I think the Sox management should look at themselves in the mirror and say why would quickman spend another 10,000 this year? To watch Harris? valentin? Rowand? Garland, Konerko? Uribe? Quit complaining about attendance management. You need to appeal to me, not the other way around.
  2. God father, How many other teams have made big moves. Redsox, phillies, yanks, scrubs. Most others are doing the same things the Sox are. Let it play out. By the time sox fest hits we will have a good idea of whether this team will suck or not.
  3. Jim, Problem sometimes is... we need to win games in april and May. Therefore we may need a pitcher. Colon is our best option because. Millwood- is represented by Boras Ponson- Is no better than Colon and Colon actaully likes chicago and the friends he has on the team. Maddox- represented by Boras Pettit- Won't even consider us. Colon knows the A league pretty well, chews up innings so we do not need to go to our depleted bullpen.yes he is fat, surlly, can't speak english, but I don't care. i will take him.
  4. nicely put, the dodgers might need to make another move before this one. Same with the chisox
  5. Have the dodgers traded anyone? Personally I think the Dodgers (dan Evans) can't trade anyone. All these rumors are bulls***. Danny Evans can't pull any triggers.
  6. Jim, I feel your pain on Harris, I get the feeling that Harris can't hit, I mean really can't hit. Hey I never caught up with you on the seat thing. Did you get any? Also Hankins may not be ready, the Sox will get somebody via free agency to back up the infield. Also, I saw a past post of yours indicating that KW might have a blockbuster up his sleeve. Today Jayson Stark said the Mets have interest in Maggs. I would consider a MAggs, Koch deal a blockbuster. Hold on baby. PS I would sign Alomar to play second.
  7. Jimmy my friend, I can't wait. I hate this guy so much I am willing to go with Ross Gload at first base!!!
  8. Ok a couple of things, heard on am 1000 today that this trade is close. konerko for Perez. No mention of other players. I love this trade. I could care less if konerko does well. He is slow, Dp's alot, and is way over paid. 8 million does not cut it. Therefore get pitching and defense. Thomas mags and lee can hit the ball out of the park. Crede will be better as well. he can hit 25 a year.Go get Colon and another bullpen guy, sign alomar if you can and we are done. If we can get rid of Koch I would love that too.
  9. I can only hope that hawkins breaks his arm. Prior, trips on a bat and breaks his wrist, and kerry wood blows out his arm again. As for all of you who are offended by these comments. Well..
  10. a little over 3 million ayear. We couldn't give him that? Damn.
  11. Brando, Inknow what Jimenez truned out to be. I jsut think its funny that KW is saying the same thing two years in a row. Well see.
  12. Didn't KW say the same thing about jimenez. He was suppose to be our shortstop this year. Can we ever bring up anyone in our org. Don't we believe in anyone down there. All this trade told me was Graf is gone, miles who I would have liked to see is gone, and now we won't go and get a real shortstop. Looks like part of the dodger trade is done.
  13. both of these trades stink. Personally I would like to see some prospects in return. I don't mind freddie garcia but would need them to add two solid prospects in return. The idea of the sox giving up anymore than maggs is nuts. if I can't get that, then I am with the other guy who said to wait until july. People will be giving prospects away then.
  14. the yanks can take a chance on offering him two years. They did the same thign with jon Lieber last year. we can't. I thought Gordon pitched very well. I will miss him. hey what is hte word on Osuna? He is a free agent, can the guy still pitch? he maybe cheap
  15. 2 million ayear? No way didn't this guy make 675 last year. I would say 1 million is fine. 1.2 tops. I like him but not for 2 million.
  16. Majewski- What is up with this cat? we trade him, release him and we keep getting him back, now we are adding him to the 40 man. Could it be we are getting ready to trade him again? I think he is a mid tier prospect. I have gone to spring training for the last five years, and although I only go for a week, I have never seen him pitch. this is usually the time of the year he exits again.
  17. HEARD Bruce levine yesterday on am 1000 say the Sox offered Gordon 7 million for two years. Gordon wants 5. THis guy is really high on himself. Offer him arbitration.
  18. I agree, they should offer arbitration. Colon won't get more than 12 million and I can't see gordon getting more than four. If they do accept arbitration, we are stuck with them for one year. Which is fine, but then we would definatly need to get rid of koch and or konerko, which I think KW is finding NOBODY wants. Maybe that is why he won't risk arbitration.
  19. Hey Jim, Saw me lurking! I would like to go on sat as well. Want to go together? Let me know. I did not get my invoice yet and I paid for playoffs and took the option to apply for this year. I am actually glad, I want the sox to do something (get players make a trade) before they raise prices! Here are my views in a nutshell 1) gordon wants too much money. Let him go. He will get injured. 2) colon should not have turned down the sox. Probably will end up getting what we offered him. 3)Sign Sullivan. 4) The sox are raising there payroll to 60 million. trouble is Konerko, LEE, Thomas, ordonez, schonwiess, beurhle, garland and valentin, all get raises. So effectively its the same team with a higher payroll. We didn't win, so time to make some moves. personally I would like to keep lee and mags and build around them, with Crede, miles, gload, rowand, Reed, borchard, sweeney, anderson, olivo. Then pay for pitching. Anyway, nice to see you on line. I look to see if your around. Talking to Julie Swieca alot via email. She has some tidbits.
  20. Rex, Maybe some people don't understand that you live down there and watch the games. Outside of that, keep giving us reports on the minor leaguers. Personally, I beleive the Sox farm system is a complete mess. The talent for the majors is thin, its time to rebuild.
  21. Personally, I believe this is all part of the Sox re-building program. getting Ozzie started the whole thing. This should be Franks last year, Valentin's last year, S- Alomar's last year, Maggs or Lee will go. They will probably keep Konerko this year and try to trade him again next year, but after that, he gone. So time to cut and re-build around Crede, Olivo, Reed, borchard. In the next two years, Thomas, valentin, lee, maggs, konerko, buerle, Alomar, Will all be gone. Why not get some good young players for these guys, re-build your farm, and kind of compete in a division that doesn't spend money. if they catch lightening in a bottle one day then add a solid veteran.
  22. Actually I was talking about the farm system in general not who has made it to the bigs yet. I strongly feel that your chances are better if you have multiple years picking higher in the draft. If you are near the bottom of the league three or four years in a row then you are always picking high. I realize people have jobs and must do there work. I also realize that many players come from later rounds. My point is that you have a much better chance at getting better players if you suck. Some better top picks (first or second round) by the Cubs: Kerry Wood Mark Prior Bobby Hill-second round Bobby Brownlie Corey Patterson Andy Sisco- 2 round Kuke Hagerty- Supplement ist round Jon Garland- Now with the sox Anyway its a silly argument.
  23. Jim, I think its easy for teams to build a great farm system if they are always near the bottom. Thye get to pick high every year. That's how the Cubs built there system.
