off the top of head cant really think of any...liked dawn of the dead's use of "the man comes around" by cash. also like carl orff's "o fortuna" which don't remember if it has been a theme song in movies but has been featured prominently in some. most anything by hans zimmer.

Suicide is Painless from M*A*S*H

At the end of Heroes, they played Carry on Wayward Son by Kansas. It is easily the best use of an existing song in a movie I have ever heard. Inexplicably, the cheap asses at the studio dropped the song from the DVD version of the movie.

Carry on my wayward son

There'll be peace when you are done

Lay your weary head to rest

Don't you cry no more

Once I rose above the noise and confusion

Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion

I was soaring ever higher

But I flew too high

Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man

Though my mind could think I still was a mad man

I hear the voices when I'm dreaming

I can hear them say

Carry on my wayward son

There'll be peace when you are done

Lay your weary head to rest

Don't you cry no more

Hmm I guess there's a difference between a movie theme and a prominent song that seems to represent a movie.

If we take both into account I love

Little Green Bag in Reservoir Dogs

Woke Up This Morning in The Sopranos

Not Going to Stop by Aimee Mann in Magnolia

Theme de Camille in Contempt

Mystic River theme composed by Clint Eastwood

those are just a few of the top of my head

I'd have a pretty big list if I were to take my time, but here are a few that I can think of as of right now:

Star Wars

Terminator 2

The Untouchables

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

... man, I know there's a lot more out there...

I'm on my laptop and saw that coming from you and my first thought was OMG! This from a lady who doesn't like cliches. Then I turned slightly and the font looked green :D

Also, "Young Guns Pt. II" with the Jon Bon Jovi theme.

Harley Davidson and the Marlborough Man also features the Bon Jovi song, "Dead or Alive," which I believe was written specifcally for that movie.

To whoever said 2001, you realize that was a classical concerto first, right?

[Listening to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony]

Alex: Oh bliss! Bliss and heaven! Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh. It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now. As I slooshied, I knew such lovely pictures!

Not all of the choices have been songs written specifically for the particular movies, and yes, I do realize that.

I just really like how the music and the images were put together in 2001.

Fair enough. I wasn't sure if this was supposed to be themes that were made specifically for the movies or not.
