Draft

1. TE Davis/Lewis/Pope

2. CB Kelly Jennings (Miami) 6 ft. who runs 4.4

3. Jeremy Trueblood (BC) 6-9 Tackle

4-7 best talent available

Free Agency

WR Antonio Bryant (24 years old, 1000 yards this year, 6-2, coming into his own)

TE Matt Schobel (27 years old, big target)

S Adam Archuleta (big FA pickup, Chris Harris is good, so is Brown, but Brown is injured too often and see what our backup safeties did this year, we need him. He can start and have Harris off the bench, Harris will still see plenty of time)

Draft..

First 3 rounds; CB, TE, OL in whichever order makes most sense for the available players

Get either Bryant or Randle El in FA. Sign an OL for depth, under 30 please. SAFTIES. Get rid of Todd and Green, they are bums. Get safety depth. Maybe even sign a veteran QB if one is there to compete with Kyle.

LOCKUP BRIGGS

Edited by WHarris1

Tight end with the 1st round pick, one of the big 3.

Defensive backs up the ying yang, we need DEPTH at that spot.

Another WR.

Another OL.

Another LB to add to depth.

The Bus -- Convince him to finish his Hall of Fame career with the Bears.

Randle El -- Convince him to come home and play in his hometown. Maybe he could teach Moose how to use his hands.

I agree with the notion that a TE, CB, and OL help is needed in the draft. Tillman was completely horrible today. A fast WR and CB depth through free-agency.

You have a scouting report on Jennings? Overall sounds like a nice plan. I have a problem with Bryant though. I don't think he's fast enough. The Bears need a bigplay burner. I think Randel-El fits that description more. Also, won't Archuleta be kind of expensive?

I like a TE in the first round, but I see no reason to get another receiver, especially a FA. We have Moose, Berrian, Gage, and don't forget Bradley. Berrian showed what he could do today, I think we have a solid group for a running team. If we sign any big name FA it should be a CB. If we have a shutdown coverage CB in this game we win. Tillman was embarrassed by Smith, he didn't get much help from the safeties but that doesn't mean Smith should be able to do what he did. Our D was exposed today by the Panther's passing game and it's embarrassing to see this happen in Chicago in the playoffs.

I have no confidence in Gage if I'm a Bears fan. Well I do, but not more than I would watching Wade. You can't expect Bradley to pick up where he left off this year. I think Randle-El or Brandon Lloyd or bust. They need someone who could get YAC. No one on this team is capable of that or at least hasn't shown it. This team is 1 playmaker on offense and defense away from doing something big.

So...if I've got this right....the Bears would be best served draft wise if Pitt and Carolina win and go to the Super Bowl, because two teams that would potentially pick before them would then definitely go after?

Why would I have no confidence in Gage. He isn't asked to be a star. He did a solid job once Rex came back into the picture. Berrian and Bradley will be the 2 and 3's with Gage as a 4 and someone like Randle El joining them as a special teams player and a guy that comes in when you need a big play (because of this reasoning, I don't see us getting Randle El, but rather drafting a speedy special teams type player in rds 3-5).

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 12:36 AM)
Getting a TE is painfully obvious.

Randel El also makes too much sense.

A QB has to be brought in at camp. Going into 06, if Grossman and Orton are going at it for 1-2, I am going to be very upset. It would be totally irresponsible to go into the season ONCE AGAIN with all our hopes on Rex.

CB depth is a must as well. I dont know if Zoom will be back, which creates even more of a hole.

The have a very good core in place. They need a few pieces here and there, and they need to watch a whole bunch of tape of Pitt. The Bears need to become a clone of the Steelers. Like I said, they have the core, just need a few more pieces(Good TE, nice #2 WR) to finish it off.

In Rex's case, you don't have to worry until a game is televised...then he's likely to trip over

1) Blue LOS line

2) Yellow first down line

3) That Fox arrow that says down and distance

Honestly, I had to read this a few times to understand what the hell you were saying then when I realized what you meant, I faced the saddening truth.

Gage is overrated. He doesn't do much. He's a nice blocker and that's about it. Randle El would be a great return guy as well as a #2 WR.

As far as QB, Bears should think about Aaron Brooks as a backup. He's better than Orton, is a different QB than Rex and he could run like hell just in case our O-Line goes down. Remember, backup.

Bears also should try for Lance Schulters(if they don't get Archuleta) for S and either Tommy Polley(who has played in Lovie's system and would fit perfectly) or Julian Peterson for the last OLB spot.

Interesting choices there. Polley would be awesome and Peterson would be even better but I think Peterson would be too expensive and Hillenmeyer is probably going to get resigned. Aaron Brooks will get a starting job somewhere IMO.

Watching Carolina, the Bears could try and sign a possession WR in the Ricky Proehl mold. To know you've got a guy that can catch it if you get it to him on third down would be big for the Bears.

I don't think Brooks gets a starting nod and I think thats exactly the type of guy the Bears look at. Plus if I were a backup I wouldn't mind the Bears job at all simply because while you know Rex is the guy, you also know he's injury prone.

Plus you know if you do get the starting nod, you have some offensive weapons and a defense that can really help ya out.

Well yeah, Peterson is there just in case you can't get a Nate Clements in FA. Other LB's who would look decent, Warrick Holdman and Kevin Bentley. I think Brooks won't get a starting job next year. You could always look at Josh McCown or Anthony Wright as well.

I agree. I think Brooks still has something left in the tank.

Joe Jurevicius?

BTW, here's a list of FA WR. Beware of the tons of popups.

http://www.theredzone.org/2006/freeagents/...asp?Position=WR

Draft a TE in the 1st round, a CB in the 2nd round, and OL in the rest of the rounds, maybe draft another WR in there. Sign Antwaan Randle El.

For some reason, I could see Peter Warrick or Tim Dwight in a Bears uni. Just a hunch, but if Randle El isn't a Bear, I could see them going that route.

That way I could keep hating Dwight. :P

Warrick had the tools and potential. What the hell happened?

I certainly wouldn't mind Az Hakim as a return man if he didn't fumble more than Bobby Wade....

Looking at the list, Keenan McCardell would like quite nice in a Bears uni. Price or Warrick are low-risk/high-reward type guys. I think Boerigter is a guy who kinda goes unseen around the NFL but has had some nice success in KC. Reggie Wayne is a pipe-dream and then Randle-El and Bryant are there too.

Injuries and work ethic.

He is a RFA but id love to add Brandon Lloyd to this team... he has crap QB's throwing to him in San Fran and still always shows up and is a very underated player I think.

Also he didnt do much this season but I think Andre Davis from the Pats can be a good reciever... he was having a pretty good season with the Browns b4 getting hurt his last season with them... Id love for the Bears to go after those 2 guys especially since shouldnt get huge contracts.

as for the draft the only real important need is the TE. After that id definitely would like them to get some OL depth especially if we let our starting RG whose name escapes me at the moment go.

And responding to an earlier poster how is gage overated when no one at all hypes him.... with Grossman I think Berrian has stepped up as a reciever to be the #2 guy if we dont get a WR in f/a.
