Sox Acquire Caleb Frare from NYY for Intl Pool Money
wrathofhahn replied to PolishPrince34's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Why do we never spend our INT bonus money? Cheap MF'ers -
Well there is the rule 5 to consider as well. One thing trading some of these relievers accomplishes is it kills two birds with one stone we clear up a spot and call up someone from the minors who needs a look anyways. Plus we'll need the spots anyways as we'll be picking at the top of the rule 5.

Sure but historically across all sports betting on the players getting what they want when it comes to the CBA is a bad bet to make I doubt it ever gets changed but who knows

Pretty garbage return what a dud this deadline has been for sellers.

Lopez’s Perfect Game(thread)
wrathofhahn replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2018 Season in Review
So far he has a reverse perfect game. -
Sorry to interject but I really hate that quote because it really goes against everything I believe whether it be politics, sports, the meaning of life, whatever when I have a discussion with someone I try to sort of present what I believe in a well reasoned way then listen to the otherside with an open mind. If you are trying to "convince" someone that implies that you've closed yourself to the possibility you maybe wrong.

CBA rules won't be changed regarding service time owners have zero incentive to do so

Danish & Vieira called up, Volstad DFA'd
wrathofhahn replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Was about to say the same thing. No need to play service time games with relievers. Part of the reason why it makes sense to move Avilian and some of the other veterans like Cedeno is lets see what we have in the minors. -
These people are the most annoying it's like they have no idea what a rebuild was and how it works. If Hahn promotes our best prospects burning an extra year of service time because some idiot writer is bored then he deserves to be fired.
-
Rodon has three years of control and we are probably looking at two years before all the kids are up and we are ready to add. So yeah he's probably more valuable to someone else whose an actual contender right now then us. But the returns have been awful this trade deadline so you will probably get your wish. Hard to see him moved for a Q like package when teams can pickup rentals like Happ and Hamels for nothing.
-
Agreed but this deadline the returns have been pretty awful. I'd doubt if anyone offered a Q like package just getting a sense for the market via the other moves but if they did I agree take it and run.

Soria traded for Kodi Medeiros and Wilber Perez.
wrathofhahn replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They are relief prospects Sheets is an older non elite 1B prospect. In any case as far as I'm concerned it's all gravy with Soria because we got him for free basically just after his season I was expecting more. Looking at what other relievers went for it wasn't a bad trade just disappointing was hoping we'd end up more basically on what other teams have historically paid. -
This deadline returns have been pretty awful. Might not be the right time to deal him but then there really is no caliber of comparable pitcher available

Pretty sobering where he ranks in our farm. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2018?list=cws 19th below Sheets, Burdi, and Hamilton. -
Yankees match up well have a ton of minor league pitching.

Soria traded for Kodi Medeiros and Wilber Perez.

That writeup is from 2017 though. -
Soria traded for Kodi Medeiros and Wilber Perez.

Not a huge fan of the deal but we took on Soria for free in a trade so it's all gravy anyways. -
Yeah also got a PTL which maybe Bourchard. Wall makes the deal much better then earilier reported.
-
Looks like the market maybe cooling for relievers.

Rodriguez Querecuto Izturis Jr Marte
-
I've found that as well but Shields isn't an example of this. There won't be a deep market for him and honestly I'd prefer guys like Happ, Helickson, Evoldi, and even Matt Harvey. I mean he barely throws 90 now. There just isn't going to be much demand for that kind of pitcher who gets by with smoke and mirrors who will likely get rocked in the playoffs. Then you throw in his salary and buyout complications. I'd be happy just to get any sort of interesting prospect for him.
-
They could but we are talking Soria and possibly Avilian not Q or a frontline guy. Rodriguez is a good prospect. Querecuto is a good prospect. Carlson has had tommy john. If you threw those three together in a package could a contending beat it? Probably. Would they? Likely not.
-
For both of them? I would need more but yeah one of the things their weak farm does allow though is to maybe get more then you would otherwise because they don't really have the kind of depth to put out an attractive offer with their other prospects then their top guys. While teams like the Yanks who have depth can trade around the periphery of the guys they want to keep. Seems counter-intuitive but it's not.
-
They could also be scouting Narveaz their catching is atrocious both guys are hitting below the mendoza line.
-
They can have all three if they want Shields, Soria and Avilian if it nets us a good package. Querecuto and Rodriguez definitely move the needle for me. We could also take a chance on Carlson. Out with TJ but he'd easily be a top 100 guy if healthy.
