The Sox have no chance at competing next year.  It's going to be another miserable year on contrary to what JR thinks.

I would expect to see Cease, Eloy, and TA traded this off season

While I agree that competing next year is very unlikely. They seems to think they will compete. And as Cease is the only SP they have on the roster right now that doesn't really suck (Kopech), I don't see Cease being moved.

I assume they have mapped the home addresses of the season ticket buyers and probably surveyed single game buyers. That data would be interesting.

For most of my career I had offices in Schaumburg and Elk Grove. That was solidly Cub territory. I wonder how many the team could flip if they played on AH.

Yeah I think most of the Chicago area is more Cubs leaning. They do have more fans than the Sox do.

The dynamic that interests me is how a team in the Chicago suburbs would be supported. I've lived most of my life in the NW burbs and we've never had a professional sports team that wasn't a major ordeal to travel to and from games. I think there's a ton of money out here (and other suburban areas) left on the table, pretty much untapped because all the professional sporting events are pain in the ass commutes.

Props to Kenny Williams. Anyone who says the 2005 team was "lucky" is a fucking idiot. That team was really, really good and I'll always be thankful. Watching them was the greatest sports experience of my life. On to the future.

2005 was an amazing year. I think what's meant is - in the 4 years before 2005 and the 2 years after 2005, the Sox did not make the playoffs. It was a one year window of being good, and teams that have one year windows of being good almost never win the World Series. Call it lucky, call it fortunate, whatever.

A good look at the situation and his bet is they aren't going anywhere out of Chicago but may be trying to get a new stadium or more likely this is to try to entice buyers.

If JR does really want to sell and take that massive tax hit, things must be worse than we are being led to believe.

Or maybe the time is right to sell, and it will more than make up for the capital gains taxes? What if a bidding war starts and the Sox sell for $3 billion or more? His family will make more than anticipated, even compared to what they previously would have expected from selling the team after his death.

Never going to happen with the property tax JR would have to pay, the Bears are trying to get a sweetheart deal for what they want, JR would have a heart attack.

Yeah it would have to be with a new owner. I'm not sure Jerry would outlive the time it would take to build a stadium.

But having two teams, you could split the tax burden between the 2 teams to lessen the load. and ultimately get the hotels, restaurants, bars, etc to pay most of the tax burden once its up and running.

JR is looking to buy time to interview a replacement for Hahn. Any new GM will likely want to hire a new Manager and coaching staff. JR needs someone on the level of Theo Epstein in order to replace both KW and Hahn at this point. This has to be a painful moment for JR. He got burned by these guys who as it turned out talked a good game but in the end, only dragged down what JR had built. The White Sox should be a perennial contender and make it to the play-offs more often than not. Instead, KW and Hahn presided over a s%*# show that made Jerry's White Sox a laughing stock. I am sure he has seen enough of it.

It's not just the manager and coaching staff. It's the scouting, analytics, drafting, development, international spending (beyond Luis Robert Jr.), etc. If Jerry is unwilling to spend in a serious way on the infrastructure of this organization, the new guys that replace Hahn or KW will meet similar failures.

They will never get a Theo Epstein to come here and work with one hand tied behind his back.

There is a lot of bias toward TA. There can be no doubt that some of it is due to the fact that he is an African American player...a group that did not have one player in the MLB until Jackie Robinson came up with the Dodgers. That group is still under-represented in the league.  It is interesting to note how some perceived this fight from who they think started it to how they characterize  AV for  dragging TA off.

The fight was minority vs minority. I don't see any racial biases here.

And honesty Timmy has done this to himself. Calling himself the best player on the field while he was been one of the very worst players in baseball this year. Despite his words, he's no Jackie unfortunately.

Can someone explain what Ramirez is talking about when he says that Tim has been "disrespecting the game."

What am I missing? What has Tim done to disrespect the game other than tag Ramirez "hard" which he did not like??

So many people have agreed with Ramirez but someone explain.....

I'm not trying to be a jerk but just trying to understand what I'm missing....

I think he was mostly talking about the pushing the hand off the bag incident from Friday. Also I think it was said he was harassing their rookie 1B the whole game leading up to it...but I don't know the story behind this.

By that argument, we only have one 2+ fWAR starting player in Robert, because it’s quite easy to find the flaws all across the roster.

If they’re not right on any of these pitchers, the rebuild is pretty much dead before it even got restarted.

It's hard to call this a new rebuild, when they didn't even trade any major assets.

  10. I went with a C. I liked the moves they did make, including the Burger trade. But Cease needed to be moved. His stock isn't going to get higher, but can certainly bottom out if an injury occurs or performance decline happens. And most teams hold tighter to their top prospects over the winter than they do at the trading deadline.

Yeah I would’ve thought so too. Never know maybe a different team emerges in the off-season more willing to give up prospects or a player on the ML roster

Yeah and you have to hope there's no performance decline or injuries in the meantime. His value cant really get any higher, but it sure can get a lot lower.

Let KW handle the deadline.  Formally let Hahn go in October.  Immediately hire Mike Chernoff to be our President of Baseball Ops.  Let him rebuild the front office as he see fits, but hopefully that means Haber, Getz, & KW JR amongst many others go.  Fire the entire coaching staff even if it costs money.  Accept that 2024 & 2025 could be very ugly, but do the right things to build sustained success.  This is the way and it all starts with Rick being relieved of his duties.

I'm all for it. But why would Chernoff leave Cleveland for this shitshow of a franchise?

Since you don't seem interested in selling, pack your bags and get a deal in Charlotte. Maybe folks there will engage enough to keep a beat writer. But Chicagoans are tired of your horrible mismanagement. Maybe in a couple years a real team will move in on the Southside or share a new stadium with the Bears in Arlington Heights.

You've worn out your welcome. Your threat to move got you a new stadium, this time go. Just when we think this is the low point something comes along to realize it will just keep getting worst.

No. We dont want the team to move. We want him to sell. Why would you make a post like this?

Gonna have to disagree on this, Hahn has a history of giving just as good as he gets when making trades. I’ll point to the trades that started this rebuild.

    C. Sale to the R Sox, we got Moncada and Kopech back. Pretty good (not great) return instead of watching sale waste his best years on a losing team. Sale has given them 20 WAR and we’ve gotten 14 from yoan, kopech, only 3 from Kopech.
    Grade- B

Adam Eaton to Nationals for Giolito, Lopez, and Dunning (traded for Lance Lynn)  Nationals got 5 WAR from Eaton, we have gotten a total of nearly 30 WAR from our return.

    Grade- A+

Quintana to the Cubs for Eloy and Cease. Q gave the Cubs like 6 or 7 war. We all know how good Cease has become and if Eloy could stay healthy he’s an all star caliber player.  We have about 15 WAR between the two so far.

    Grade-A

I agree that it’s time for Hahn to go, BUT let’s keep things in perspective, he is not the worst GM in the game. To say so is just hyperbole.

Is it hyperbole? I agree he made a few nice trades to kickoff the rebuild. He's also made some very, very bad trades - 'he who should not be named' being the main one. But I was a fan of his back in the early part of the rebuild, despite the Tatis trade.

What else is there? He's in his 11th season as GM and they've won 2 playoff games in his tenure, and lost both of those playoff series. I dont think its possible for any GM to have a record rooted as deep in failure as Hahn's, because other owners would have shitcanned him a long time ago.

The rebuild is already dying a very painful death.

Under Hahn, they've shown a near-total inability to draft or develop at an acceptable rate. What have they drafted or developed since Timmy - who was drafted 10 years ago? That right there is this team's biggest problem. It's almost impossible to compete for a championship if you basically never have good talent coming up in the system to plug holes or cover injuries. This is all on the GM and ownership.
