I never heard cub fans question team loyalty after over 100 years of futility. Ask yourself if you are a fan of winning or a fan of the team. Ask yourself if you are a fan of baseball only if your team wins. 2023 Sox will be competitive. Line-up is good, pitching staff is decent, and I am sure Hahn is trying to make a trade to improve. Relax. It's Dec 26. Go return some shitty gifts .
In 42 of your ownership Jerry, the Sox have only won a playoff series in 2005. Don't you think you owe the fans more than that?

I think the window is creeping towards closing, but it's not there yet. Instead of being 8-1 co-favorites or whatever they were a year or two ago, they're probably 25-1 or 30-1 maybe. Highly unlikely they win it, but the chance is there. A million things have to go right of course.

That's betting this team's success on Colas making the team and not having typical rookie struggles.

I'm a big Hawk fan. Didn't love Benetti much, but I've warmed up to him a bit. Yes he sounds like a robot that came right out of an announcer school. But he's improved a decent bit I think.

My question would be why hasn't he had back surgery yet ? Surely recovery time would have him ready for opening day if he had the surgery when it was recommended.
Also why not surgery the minute the season ended ?
He also said the recovery and after effects of the Oct.2021 knee surgery took a toll.
However he feels confident the work in this off season with the Black Hawks conditioning coach Paul Goodman will benefit him greatly.
He's also been working on his catching setup to take pressure off his knees and block balls better while still being able to frame pitches with Sal Mosquera the Sox AAA catching co-ordinator.

We can only guess obviously - but back surgery is a really big life decision. Many times back surgeries go the wrong way, and then you're stuck with the fallout for the rest of your life. If his back problem doesn't affect his regular life in a negative way, and knowing his baseball career is near the end regardless, then he probably made the best choice for himself.

Bruce Levine sounded confident that Conforto will be the next sign for the Cubs (though he tried to walk it back). We'll see.
Eh, did you copy that from Heisen, or is that you? I thought you were clyde at HF?

That would be a great name...and it wouldn't surprise me if we get him back any day now.
Are there rumors of Madrigal coming back?

BTW I adore that the Twins signed Gallo. Cant wait to see him whiff 4 straight times to Cease.

Well I'm going to have to eat a little crow here. I didn't think Jerry was going to throw around any of his nickels this off-season. Benintendi is far from the impact player this team needs, But he does fill a void. A high OBP guy hitting before Eloy and Robert (if our new hitting coaches can resurge their power), could lead to a lot of 2 and 3 run homers, something we saw precious little of last year.

Is there a LF available to sign who doesn't suck?
That's kind of my thought. None of these guys excite me.
Gallo - it's hard to imagine him not being terrible if they sign him. He ended last year as one of the worst hitters in baseball. If that trend continues, good Lord.
Benintendi - he has no power, which the Sox desperately need, and you're buying high on him off a career year. Nah.
I guess I would prefer Conforto, on the off chance he is somewhat healthy and returns to form from a couple of years ago.

Damn, I thought for sure he was coming to the Sox

I think trading Hendriks will have a bad net result on the White Sox. He converted 37 of 41 save opportunities, and I just cant imagine Reylo being even close to that. Hendriks was a big reason last year's mess of a team managed to stay at .500. He locked s%*# down when it got to the 9th inning.
But I get it...our owner wants his bank account padded and they need to trim payroll.

I never said that the cap doesn't exist, I said its design is to suppress player wages. I for one am very interested in how the Mets will fair after blowing past what any team has done before. I know their base and market is excited, deservedly so.
You do it like other leagues. You negotiate a set % of revenues, which determines the cap and cap floor.
While I firmly believe teams are making gobs of money and in general should spend more. I don't think they can be blamed for not spending at the Mets level. I doubt revenues are that high to support a $420 mil payroll + tax (I think I heard 420 mil yesterday).

And if you have approached this season realistically and post about acquiring youngish players to improve the team because as a Sox fan you want to feel you are making wise choices for depth you get kicked in the head by our fans hoping for money to pop up out of nowhere and belittling that approach or the players you pick when Cespedes was your best depth OF until a few weeks ago and it's not really much better now.
It's just sad being a fan now.
Two things...
1) The money is there, it's just that Jerry won't let it see the light of day. The White Sox themselves told us over and over that the money is there.
2) I wasn't one of the fans getting on you about Outman. But you were kind of obsessing over a tweener triple a star who turns 26 early next season. Those types usually are fool's gold.

Can the Mets buy Jerry Reinsdorf? Please?

It is good for baseball because cheap owners can't hide the truth anymore.
Either get with the program or GTFO.
But they're not going to GTFO and nobody can make them. That's the problem. Even in a big market we're screwed while this guy owns the team.

who in their right mind would want to sign a contract with the white sox? a franchise whose goal is to f*** players in incredibly team friendly deals and refuse to improve the team? Not to mention the terrible coaching/player development, and one of the worst training staffs in the league.
Unless you are a journeyman or old veteran, who in their right mind would sign here?
This is a weird take, given that these 'team friendly' deals have had a pretty big slant towards the players lately.

I mean, realistically, if you're trading TA you may as well trade everyone of value controlled 2 years or less, because we aren't winning anything in 2023 with Elvis Andrus or Romy Gonzalez or Leury Garcia manning SS along with gaping holes in LF, RF and 2B.
You might be right. You probably are. But what would the return be for Hendriks and TA to the Dodgers? Is Gavin Lux and a couple of nice prospects out of reach? I'm not sure on that, and that's why I'm asking.
Because if you can throw Lux at 2B...re-sign Andrus, and let him and Sosa battle it out for shortstop (I'll secretly be hoping Sosa kills it and takes the job).. The loss of TA and Hendrik's salary's hopefully would spur our budget minded owner to spending on someone like Michael Conforto in the outfield. I know that's a lot of if's, but I think there's a very real chance of being a better team than last year. Maybe even the best team we've seen during these 'rebuild' years.
I am a fan of TA. He's the one current guy I own a jersey of. But like Soxace, I think it's counter-productive to leave him at SS with all errors he commits. Those errors have cost the Sox a lot of games and that should be stabilized.

An owner like him would never buy a team with a non existing fan base. The point of owning is to make $. None of the owners in baseball lose money on purpose just to win. They're rich, not stupid.
The fan base has been molded in to what it is by 42 years of Jerry Reinsdorf's mediocre ownership. The White Sox are a potential goldmine for a new owner if they think outside of the box.

I'm not even sure what to say on this one. I love TA as a player. Not so much his SS defense, but most everything else. But if there's something to this, they have to do what they have to do to fix the team culture.

So you're thinking Jerry made $ last yr? I was at about 10 games last yr. Mainly weekend games, none were sold out.
Of course he made money. There's a lot TV money alone, which has no dependence on gate revenues.
Here's a possible issue. I suspect he made a lot more money during the rebuild years than now. Like 2018 when the Sox had the 2nd lowest payroll in baseball. It wouldn't surprise me if that was one of his most profitable years as a Sox owner. And maybe now he yearning for that, and thus cutting payroll despite the disastrous 2022 season, instead of expanding the payroll to improve the team.

Good for the Mets. I'm jealous that we don't have their owner.

It’s shocking how little effort they’re giving right now on the field and off. I had thought they might try and mend fences with the fans a lot more than this. I don’t know how Pedro is going to raise this up.
I feel like this is my low point as a White Sox fan. And I'm 51 years old. They clearly have zero interest in trying to win a World Series for their fans. Zero.
If this Gallo signing happens, it's just one more kick in the nuts to their fans.

They need the power and OBP.
Gallo's OBP was .280 last year and Benintendi's was .373.
