  1. I still root for my teams - the White Sox, Bears and Blackhawks. My problem is - more often than not my teams seem to be in teardown rebuilds and in a state where I kind of need to root for them to lose for draft positioning. Like the Blackhawks chasing Connor Bedard this past season. Or the Bears getting the #1 pick. And the Sox had their rebuild a few years ago. The ownerships and management of Chicago professinal sports team has been really bad in recent years.

The story I did last August after seeing what tax experts were saying was that if he sells while he is still alive the tax hit could be around 200 million dollars more than if he has his family sell the team after he passes.

JR started as a tax expert working for the IRS, he knows the tax laws and 200 million is a gigantic sum of money.

    He's not selling.

Hmm, that doesn't make sense at a glance. I'd have to read your article.

Forbes estimates Reinsdorf owns 19% of the White Sox, and also estimates the White Sox are worth 1.4 billion. That puts Jerry's estimated share value at $266 mil.

That said, I'm sure the Sox would sell for a lot more than 1.4 bil. I'd guess 2.5 - 3 billion at least.

I have my own trauma that I'm dealing with in regards to this subject.  But the fact remains is that due to labor rules established within the MLBPA, they can't do anything until the investigation is concluded and if  they tried, it would be a nightmare.

Right and for hockey fans, we saw the false accusations that Patrick Kane had to deal with. We need to let this process play itself out.

“You’d go in the locker room and all the Latino guys would be in one place, the whites in another and the African-Americans someplace else.I had heard that groups were apart and not close but part of that could be human nature, language divisions for example. The Sox locker room is a big square so guys aren’t close to start with, the Cubs locker room is circular. I don’t know if that was by design or what but that lends itself to guys getting together.”

Of course players that come from other countries and speak a different language tend to congregate.  Not sure why it was necessary to add "Whites in another and African Americans someplace else " to that or the ridiculous suggestion that the shape of the Cub locker room has somehow helped to ease  ethnic and racial differences among players on the North side.  Bennetti actually said this?  That's some real bulshit.

Try reading that again, Jerry. Those aren't comments from Benetti.

White Sox attendance issues started in the mid 1960's when social unrest created the myth that Comiskey Park was a "dangerous" place because of its location. Nothing the Sox could do about that but they have shot themselves in the foot over the years with decisions like leaving WGN-TV, creating SportsVision and saying "We are Chicago's American League team..." instead of taking on the Cubs full-on.

From 1951-1967 the Sox outdrew the Cubs in 16 of those 17 years sometimes by a wide margin.

Part of the issue is the Sox have not been able to consistently put a winning competitive streak like that together since then.

Often they come out of the blue (like in 2005) and have an excellent season but they...can't...keep...it...going. I don't mean winning World Series after World series but how about making the playoffs say four times in six years or five times in seven? Sox have never done that.

    They'll have a nice stretch (1981-1983, 1990-1994, 2000-2006...) and then it's back to mediocrity.

To say nothing even about all the controversies...Sox are moving...stadium controversy, JR and 1994 labor impasse, White Flag Trade, cancelling Sox fest, bizarre new ticket policy among others.

That's no way to build a fan base in my opinion.

Nothing they can do about it? They could have not built the new stadium across the street in the late 80's/early 90's? Although the stadium has convenient highway access - it is still viewed as an undesirable area to go to. Who wants to ride that section of the redline at night? And crap like those guys on electric scooters scamming people for money as they exit the Dan Ryan for a game only furthers the problem.

IMO the Sox need to move once new ownership eventually comes in. If nothing is available downtown, then the burbs should be the focus.

I'm sorry, but this take is ridiculous. If all those things happened, the Sox would win 115 games. They don't need to win 115 games to make the playoffs.

With everything going sideways last year, they lost the division by 11 games. If just a couple of those players blow up this year, the potential to sail past Cleveland is easily there.

I'm not saying it's likely or that they are the favorites. But to act like they only have a snowball's chance in hell is just off.

  7. Not sure what the point is here. If anyone believes Jerry lost $21 mil last year, then I have some breachfront property in New Mexico to sell you. And the Sox will sell for way more than 1.76 bil if it attracts open bidders.

I can't believe people think this will move any needle. JR will sell when he wants to sell.

Nobody thinks this will get him to sell. But that doesn't mean a little embarrassment wont be fun to snicker about. Hopefully this gets a little snippet on national tv.

" It’s the sure and certain knowledge that not only does the team not care about us like we care about the team  if you think differently, you are a dew-eyed romantic...We see the team as a way to transform our hopes, our emotional investment, our literal financial investment,"

Your perceived financial investment consists of a couple of Polish and a dozen beers or so a year.  Transform your hopes?  Please. life is so much more than watching a few baseball games each year.   If you are indeed older, you would understand that.

"Ah, but they know how we conceive the team. It’s where we’ve made friends, where we’ve gone with our families more times than we can count, where on occasion we stand as one with a rising yell in our throats as a ball traces an arc in the night sky, ready to high-five strangers and jump like lunatics. It’s fun. It’s what we care about. It’s part of who we are."

    Oh come on.

"So I don’t know where this anger is going to go. It’s very possible that it starts another cycle of lower attendance, Jerry using that to slash payroll, and so on, on and on, our endless Kali yuga, hoping to stumble into something lucky, waiting for it to all end. "

OK, you are angry so just say you will no longer attend because the WSox are "slashing payroll" like extending Luis Robert, Eloy Jiminez, signing FA Liam Hendriks , Grandal, and more recently Bennintendi for 75 Million dollars and assembling one of the best rotations and bullpens in the league. Like maintaining the financial strength of the franchise to make sure that they stay on the South side for the next generations of Sox fans. It's not all about you. Grow the F up and quit whining.

So Jerry...when are you going to spend that money that was hoarded during the lean rebuild years? We were promised.

Question for the board, but what is it you needed to see from Lenyn Sosa last year to feel comfortable giving him the 2B job?  I’ve seen several posters state that he needs more time in the minors, but what more does he need to accomplish there?  After a rough start to AAA, he dominated the level and put up numbers consistent with what he did in Birmingham where he was one of the best hitters in the league.

Sure, we could ask him to prove it out over a longer sample, but to me it’s quite clear he needs an extended shot in the majors.  He 100% could fail and create a black hole at the position, but 22 year old middle infielders putting up numbers like this in the upper minors warrant a serious look.  Again, Hahn should go acquire a LH bench piece to hedge this bet, but I really think we should give Lenyn a couple hundred PA’s to show us what he is capable of next year.

                    Level | PA | BB % | K % | ISO | BABIP | OPS | wRC+

    • AA:            289 | 7.3% | 13.8% | .218 | .340 | .933 | 141
    • AAA (1/2):   86 | 3.5% | 23.3% | .074 | .323 | .600 | 58
    • AAA (2/2): 161 | 9.3% | 14.3% | .228 | .336 | .943 | 149
    • Majors:       36 | 2.8% | 33.3% | .114 | .136 | .367 | -4

I 100% agree. I'm hoping Sosa takes the job and runs with it.

  11. Moving out of the Chicago area is the only thing that would make me stop being a Sox fan. And if they did move, it would only be a matter of time until a different team relocated to be Chicago's 2nd team. Just because Jerry has failed to capitalize on the pot of gold that is Chicago's sports market, doesn't mean other owners or potential owners wont see the opportunity clear as day.
