  1. Why would Paddy deserve credit for the White Sox being in the Central division?
  2. Eloy,, Kopech, Cease, Robert. Those players still came through under Getz. Burger did not "develop almost completely on his own". Madrigal and Vaughn were both rushed through their "development". Many of the upper picks, like Pilkington, Steele Walker, Luis Gonzalez were traded before making their Chicago debuts. Davis Martin and Romy Gonzalez were right in the middle of Getz's period as director.
  3. Dave Dombrowski. He spent one year as Director of Player Development in Montreal before being appointed GM. The rules were set for the 2020 season, then they made the playoffs. With a core that were partially developed under Getz. Then they went back to the playoffs in 2021. Nobody needs to apologize for that.
  4. Looking at the stats, I would have to disagree.
  5. Counterpoint: Getz did develop the best players brought into the system, comprising a core that resulted in a two year run of playoff appearances. Many Player Development Directors have achieved less and went on to become General Managers.
  6. Pitchers get injured. It's not something that one can avoid.
  7. Can you explain what parts of his job as Assistant GM Getz failed at?
  8. Benintendi, Robert, Tauchman/Slater. Which one is Haniger better than?
  9. And if Getz sat JR down and laid out the issues in the organization, along with his vision along with a detailed map of how he was going to achieve each of his goals, why shouldn't JR have hired him?
  10. Counterpoint: After 9 years in various front offices, Getz did deserve a shot at the GM job, and does deserve the benefit of the doubt. Dombrowski got his first shot at GM in Montreal after 10 years in baseball.
  11. I agree with all of this. Dombrowski was hired for his track record. Getz has yet to prove it.
  12. We're not grading Getz on what you feel he's going to do in the next 20 years. It's on what he's done so far. He's recognized and acknowledged problems in the organization and has made decisive moves to correct them. He's also identified one real strength and has leaned into it with his sole draft and off-season pitching moves. Two minor league teams have played for their league championship series and one won. Quin singled out Getz as the only GM to come close to the Mets' record. The Tigers came within a game of it. If you're grading Getz mostly on that 41-121 record, then no qualifications apply to Dombrowski's 119 loss season. And if you're going to bring up Getz' uneven record of trades, Dombrowski traded Brian Moehler and Jeff Weaver, basically, for Carlos Pena and Jeremy Bonderman. Dombrowski's early trades really didn't move the needle, either.
  13. And in his third, just missed being the biggest failure in baseball history by 2 losses.
  14. Dave Dombrowski took over the Tigers 4/8/2002, and the 2003 Tigers went 43-119.
  15. Why? The Sox control Colas' rights to fill a need, if it arises. It's ugly, but that's Capitalism. They're not there for him. He's there for them.
  16. It's a good thing the Sox picked him up to be the weak side of a platoon, and you agree that he looks pretty good for that.
  17. But it happened. I'm not sure what your argument has ever been. That because they have an injury history, they didn't get injured? Or was Getz supposed to cut them, pay them, and then sign somebody else? On a reduced budget.
  18. Sure, that would be preferable. And it may still happen.
  19. Why am I not surprised that you would argue about something for a full hour without even realizing what you were arguing?
  20. This year's OF makeup is probably a direct reaction to last year's foibles. Tauchman can cover CF for a few days. He can't be your CF for 6 weeks if Robert gets injured or traded.
  21. I'm sure players don't worry about "4+ losing seasons". It's about the situation they're walking into. If a team has an established starting rotation, a good bullpen and a solid lineup, all in a weak division that's wide open, that's a good situation to hitch up to. Sure, money matters. But why overpay for players? It wasn't Chris Getz' choice to sign Robles, or not. If Getz wanted to overpay for a guy who still hadn't established himself as a reliable offensive producer 7 years into his career, then maybe he could have coaxed Robles away from Seattle. Overpaying on dollars and years is how we got Benintendi's contract.
  22. Who is being DFAed? I think they might try to sneak a couple guys through during the flurry of roster moves next week. If they pass through waivers, they get to assign them. I could see them trying to sneak Colas and Amaya through waivers. Neither would be a big loss if claimed. Amaya's probably a better fielder than Tristan Gray, but Gray hits some. They seem to be hanging onto Colas on the off chance he starts hitting, and that hasn't happened in a while. They're not going to cut Carella or Nastrini. Also, they're paying Benintendi, so you have to keep him. Robert will be traded at some point. Tauchman and Slater shore up a position they have no one of value to play. Taylor is CF insurance to have a competent CF to rest Robert, or he's traded.
  23. Seeing as Robles was a free agent, he had the choice of signing with the first place Seattle Mariners for a guaranteed starting position, or the 15-46 White Sox, who were weathering an 11-game losing streak at that point. So, maybe money wasn't a problem, but one situation seemed much more attractive than the other.
  24. Are you even following the conversation? That .736 OPS was better than the MLB average. Can you please explain how you're "hoping and praying" to have a team of hitters who don't hit as well as .736 makes a better rebuild?
