  1. Dillon Head, Jakob Marsee and Nathan Martorano are probably, roughly, the equivalent of Jacob Gonzalez, Wilfred Veras and Bryan Ramos. That is not "next to nothing". Lopez was a free agent pickup, struggling with some behavioral issues. I don't think this team would have been a good environment for him.
  2. I think, in referring to it as a weak draft, they're talking about elite talent. There's always guys with tools that can be developed. But none the top 5-7 really stand out as sure-fire, perennial all-star talent. I look at a draft like 2016. Players were drafted who became very productive major leaguers (Will Smith, Bryan Reynolds, Pete Alonzo, Bo Bichette), but the top guys were kind of inflated beyond their ability.
  3. Just a painful game. Team is bad, and they're coasting into the break.
  4. But, yeah, point taken. Grifol should be getting tossed once a week.
  5. Okay, perfecto's off the table, so is getting no-hit. Let's work on the shutout, then maybe a win. Yeah, I see Sosa as being the placeholder 1B between Vaughn/Sheets and Cag (if drafted). Big if, if he hits.
  6. SoxMachine's Pregame Sox Notes: * A break could be good * Prospects in town * Nicky Lopez .273/.344/.382 over last 20 games * Katz likes Davis Martin https://soxmachine.com/2024/07/pregame-notes-everyone-could-use-a-break-from-this-white-sox-season/
  7. Bryan Ramos and DeLoach/Colas could probably out-perform Paul DeJong's mundane output since the middle of June (.207/.250/.293), or Tommy Pham's pedestrian (.238/.340/.310) in the same time period. While it would be hard to replace Crochet's and Fedde's production, maybe Davis Martin, Sean Burke or Ky Bush can just be solid like Jonathan Cannon.

  9. I agree with you. I think the only real option for a deal would be something like 3/$45m or 3/$50. Guarantee him 5/15 for his 2 arb years, and maybe you get a deal on a third with a buyout in case he gets injured again. But he's young and has little mileage on that arm.
  10. WS23 isn't part of the fanbase.
  11. ...And some positive records are being set this year, too.
  12. I think this has more to do with the All-Star game appearance than stopping Crochet right after 100 innings.
  13. It's BS that Crochet is so close to the perfecto, and they won't let him finish.
  14. I'm confused. Are you saying that Crochet, Colson Montgomery and Noah Schultz are picks the Sox "got wrong"?
  15. Or can just make him listen on pitch selection.
