AAA Charlotte Knights' roster finalized
I just read somewhere in the last few days that signing a player to a multi-year contract before their debut nullifies the ROY draft reward.

2024 White Sox Opening Day thread 3/28 3:10 first pitch vs Detroit
I understand that this place gets so reflexively negative, even sober takes on the reality of this team are seen as happy talk. But if you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?

Are we being too hard on Grif?
I don't like Grifol. He reminds me of Bevington. But he should be obsessed with turning this team around. https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2024/03/29/pedro-grifol-obsessed-with-turning-white-sox-around

Didn't Bill James disprove the "base clogger" meme? Like, there's a level of base running proficiency, or non-proficiency, that detracts from a player's production. If he's on 2nd, and can only make it to 3rd on a double, that's bad. But I think Vaughn's OBP would outweigh his inability to score from 2nd on a single. And seriously, watching this team in spring training, they have to put 5 guys on base safely to score a run. They're already station to station. Get more guys who can reach first, then worry about unclogging the base paths.

Garrett Crochet named Opening Day starter
Point being, it's not accurate to say that Crochet only threw 24 innings in 2023.

Garrett Crochet named Opening Day starter
The arguments can be made that Crochet doesn't have the long term wear and tear that a normal starter would, and that Crochet might just fare better on a 5-day program rather than the chaotic, up-and-down schedule of a reliever. And the innings totals everybody's quoting are just the innings that have been reported in regulation games. There are whole seasons worth of games played at their Alternate training site that never get logged. Spring training. B games. So none of the 79, 91 or 132 totals are accurate.

Along with Cory Knebel and Joe Barlow. I haven't seen any news of those two opting out.

I think Carlos Perez will get most of those innings at 1B. He was listed as an infielder elsewhere. They might even cycle one or two of the OFs through 1B. Tim Elko is conspicuous in his absence.

No Terrell Tatum, Yoelqui Cespedes, Jake Eder or Ky Bush, either. AA, A+ & A opening days are April 5.

Garrett Crochet named Opening Day starter
Did you read the section I was quoting? He said, "The Sox braintrust doesn't exactly inspire confidence that they will manage his innings to maximize said immense talent for that matter either." The Sox are currently bringing a few higher profile players back from injury. I understand the "doesn't inspire confidence" line is just reflexive, but they are showing extreme care in other situations, which leads me to believe they are in this case, too.

Do you feel the White Sox are rushing Noah Schultz?

Garrett Crochet named Opening Day starter
I'd imagine he doesn't throw more than 90 innings this season.

So, let me get this straight. The only way to rehab from TJS is to throw in real baseball games. And to not throw a lot of innings. He did that, but it was too aggressive. Are you actually saying that it should take 4 years to come back from TJS? You know, you could just admit you're wrong, instead of trying to rewrite all of medical history.

Maybe Maldonado accepts being a coach, and maybe they decide they can deal with the diminished defense during LHP starts, and Grossman's in the OF. DeJong will be here until Monty wrests the position away.

I'm just happy that I figured out that if I'm dreaming that I'm inappropriately urinating in a clothes rack in a department store, or in somebody's kitchen, pulling bowls out of the cupboard to whiz in, WAKE THE f*** UP!!!

I really hope Korey Lee gets the Saturday start. He probably won't until Sunday. Maybe Maldonado will get an enlarged prostate, and have to take the elderly facility's PACE van to the hospital for a CT Scan on Saturday.

I completely agree with this. Vaughn was robbed a couple of times at bat, tho.

Eat crow? I was told the entire pitching staff would eat balls from game one, basically. They looked good. This is like 1.5 on a 1-10 scale of wanting everyone to eat crow.

They're still pro hitters. I'm not sure what we're doing, here. Crochet had a very good game. Around a 70 game score. We aren't talking our way out of that.
