  1. A new ball just doesn't get that wet. From umpires pouch to pitcher/cather. Holding a ball in your glove for 20 seconds wont get it that wet.
  2. It is much easier to control a wet baseball. That's why pitchers had wet sponges in their back pocket, or before couldn't lick fingers without a wipe off
  3. I truly dont think their is. A rain out/delay is just a fact of the game when you play 162 games a year. MLB teams should play through the rain more often. They basically get new balls every pitch so its not damaging to pitchers. They can put quick dry on the field every half inning. Unless the field starts to puddle up or lightning is in the area they should play through it more often.
  4. Just cut games. If MLB cuts games in half ad slots become more expensive. They won't stop paying for it.
  5. None? Inflation isn't that bad. I live at the lower end of the pay spectrum. If i want to see a game I'll see a game.
  6. Yeah it's cold. If she doesn't want to attend opening anymore that's ok. Opening day isn't for everyone. Living in Chicago we know opening day has a chance of snow, rain, being freezing or both. That's part of opening day. Getting to the parking lot, tailgating again in the rain or cold. Tradition old as time wondering when/if they allow us in only to cancel later. You don't have to force your partner to like it.
  7. Retractable roof stadiums are expensive and use a ton more energy. A rain delayed game is better than closing a roof and having to pump aircon/heat through it. Yeah it gets cold/rainy but better than the alternative.
  8. I guess potential is measured by draft slot like any other league. Higher draft pick bigger signing. Performance and production are the same thing. When you put that much work in throughout your life I think at least a wage above poverty level should be the norm. Doesn't matter your talent level of you make a ball you should be paid minimum wage. And that wage should go up as you progress through the minors. Whether you have potential to make it to the majors or not.
  9. I think minor league players should be paid for their performance whether they make it to the big leagues or not. This isn't even a part of the CBA negotiations which sucks. A ball 30k, AA 40k, AAA 50k. To even make it to that minimum salary is near impossible. If you spend your whole life from getting drafted out of highschool to trying to get through the grind of minor league baseball to come out with 50k over 5 years without a degree, kinda fucked
  10. They should pay their employees fairly. People who own mega companies should pay a shit ton more in taxes. They aren't "giving" their money to anyone. They are paying back what they owe to the rest of us. We make their business run. If workers had any kind of reliable assistance everyone would be making more money.
  11. Hey thumbs up to that. Hope i didn't come off as a dick. If i did i apologize.
  12. Maybe this? Call the divisions what you want Ny ny bos tor bal Tampa miami philly pitt dc Det cle mil cws min Kc atl cubs stl cincy Oak sf sea LA col Sd az tex la hous
  13. Yeah that sucks. Any chance you see the quick promotions as a stepping stone to a bigger job somewhere else?
  14. 2 of the biggest contracts in mlb history were for first baseman. Is that the most important position or were they just that good offensively?
  15. That's three time zones in the Al SW. Brutal.
  16. Sounds kinda shitty. Do you get benefits that would bring you closer to the median? What are the reasons, as a top performer, you are being paid less?
  17. A pitcher who comes out of the bullpen is ready. No warmups, no break. Cut the season by at least 40 games. Play continues for 2 full innings before a commercial break. Chose 1 hitter per game where the infield can shift. Adjustable if subbed.
  18. If anyone wants to follow along my good friend is the voice of the Modesto Nuts. Have met most of the other broadcasters in the Cal league. Usually good people. It got demoted to low A last year but Noelvi Marte was on the team #11 prospect in baseball.
  19. The Walton family is not looked at kindly across America. Fuck off with the "job creator" bullshit. You get league minimum if you can make it to the bigs. The overwhelming majority of players don't make it and get paid poverty wages for years. This isn't the real world. It is a group that is exempt from anti trust law. Pro sports in the US live outside the real world man.
  20. "Watching baseball during the golden age" the "golden age" of baseball ended 60 years ago. So this person is 80 years old. The golden age was only integrated for like 10 of those years. Real golden. Person is just an old racist hack who the game has passed by.
  21. I think that was more we hope this blows over. The pressure hasn't really let up though.
  22. I don't think they would have to pay him. I'm sure their is some language in his contract that he can get released without pay for conduct detrimental or something like that.
  23. Another reason to blame owners. Tell them to pay their fucking taxes.
  24. That still isn't the players fault. No matter what happens with the CBA, tickets, concessions, you name it are going to increase regardless of player salaries. MLB owners are all extremely wealthy who shouldn't run sports teams like their personal business. Owning a team has become a business to make money, instead of putting a good product on the field.
