QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 10:31 PM) I miss Dawn Marie. I heard she might go TNA after she drops the "baby weight".

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) And AJP gets suspended for 7 games, and the hitless wonder has to start a week's worth of games. If only the Sox had HENRY BLANCO, then this plan could work.....

QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) find someway to mess it up I think that's their Mission Statement for 2006.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) Agreed about the setup man. That will be helpful, but it's not going to make a huge difference... especially if Garcia, Vazquez, and Buehrle keep giving up five- and six-run innings. I agree 100% on that. The Sox' fortunes begin and end with the success of the rotation, as do most teams'.

Better execution of fundamentals. Their bunting is atrocious lately and I can't remember the last successful hit-and-run they pulled off, or even the last time they tried one.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) The current roster simply needs to play better baseball. That's the only way they'll make the playoffs. This is true, for sure, but filling a hole or two wouldn't hurt either. Won't "magically" turn them into winners, but obtaining a quality backup catcher and setup man would make a lot of sense.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) NEWS FLASH! Lashley AND the Great Khali have both been pulled from the GAB for health reasons. The Lashley/Finlay match has been scrapped and the Big Show is going to take Khali's place in the Punjabi Prison Match. Henry, Lashley and Khali now -- the SmackDown! roster is dropping like flies. In Khali's case, the "health reason" is that he makes everyone who watches him sick. But with the Big Slow replacing him, that match is still going to be unwatchable, because you can't book him as an "unstoppable monster" against The Dead Man.

0-3 with an ERA of over FORTY-FIVE since the All-Star break. Yikes. Could he be another flash-in-the-pan closer a la Dan Kolb, or is this just a hiccup? I like the floppy-haired one, so I hope he turns this around.

Your Favorite Pitcher (of your lifetime)
The Critic replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in The Diamond Club
Fergie Jenkins. The guy was FUN to watch when I was a kid. 6 straight 20-win seasons (1967-72), and a 25-win season for Texas two years after that. Bob Gibson was an intimidator, plain and simple. I also enjoyed the guys with the funky deliveries like Pedro Borbon and Juan Marichal. Yeah, I'm an old fart, so what? -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 02:06 AM) If we had the starters pitching like they did in 05, along with this offense and a functioning Brian Anderson, we could overcome 15 games if we had to. But the key is the starters. And now that Anderson has been "functioning" lately, it almost all comes down to the starters. The rotation needs to steal some games when the offense stalls, as it has recently. The starters need to get the Sox into the 7th and 8th innings with a lead, so the bullpen isn't overtaxed. Of course, a crash course in bunting, hit-and-running and advancing runners wouldn't hurt, either. It's especially shocking how bad the Sox have become at bunting. I still believe (and I'm not sure why lately ) that the starters will get their second wind, and make the adjustments necessary to pitch more effectively. If they do that, the Sox will be right in the thick of things all season. If the starters continue to flounder, the Sox might be watching October baseball from home.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) What's chat like anyway? I never go in there. It can't possibly be as bad as the game threads, could it? I never chat, so I have no clue. I'd assume it's like a game thread with even less thought put into it.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) All the dude was saying is that he's gonna take a break from this board. I don't blame him. I would do the same thing if I wasn't so addicted to this place. I'm just gonna start ignoring certain posters. I just ignore the game threads once the jackassery starts up, and lately I've been spending way less time in the Pale Hose Talk forum.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:43 AM) i caught it....i do think i'll be downloading this "punjabi prison" match due to pure curiosity I'll look for it on youtube or something, only because it has the potential to be the worst match of all time. They'll have to have a ton of crazy "spiff" and/or buckets of blood to mask the fact that this match features a guy on the fast track to retirement against maybe the worst wrestler of all time. And LCR, while I know you have lines like that Katie Vick one in you, I just KNEW that line was lifted from somewhere....

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:53 PM) brian sort of dogged it Yep, I was just gonna say that Brian seemed to assume the double. -
QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) That is pretty much every wrestler in the 80s and mid 90s before the internet explosion. I remember my shock when I first heard that Randy Savage threatened to quit of something if he didn't win the WM 4 tourney. I don't let what goes on behind the scenes effect my opinion of a guy on screen. I think if the writers in wrestling were better, you'd see Orton's talent more. I respectfully disagree. I think if Orton was more talented, he wouldn't need the writers as much. I just don't think he'd be in the "majors" if his name wasn't Orton. He doesn't do anything particularly well IMHO.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) Vince Russo was the worst thing to happen to wrestling ever. He wasn't the mind behind WWF/E's rise, Vince was. He pretty much single hadedly made WCW a joke and ran them into the ground. Every old time wrestling fan should like/respect Randy Orton. He has natural heel charisma that Ric Flair had back in the day. I agree 100% about Russo, and disagree 100% about Orton. When I look at Orton, I see a smug jackass who feels he should receive undeserved pushes because of who his Dad and Grampa were. His antics backstage and clear disregard for company rules and policies reinforces to me that he clearly thinks he's better than the business. Where that comes from, I don't know, because IMO he's a mediocre worker with below-average mic skills.

I completely forgot Raw was on last night. I actually watched that MTV "Fresh Meat" show with my wife instead. After reading the online recap, I don't feel like I missed a damn thing. Except maybe Carlito - I really like him.

Regarding Soxtalk All I want to say is this: Game threads are teh suck

If the Sox could address a need by dealing him, Freddy is the starter I'd let go of first. The innings piling up, the velocity drop, the HR allowed, the inability to stop opponents' running game....all these things worry me.
