Pal, I thought you were a historian taught about Native history: https://www.history.com/news/colonists-native-americans-smallpox-blankets#:~:text=An illustration of Ottawa Chief, infecting blankets after peace talks. "An illustration of Ottawa Chief, Pontiac confronting Colonel Henry Bouquet who authorized his officers to spread smallpox amongst native Americans by deliberately infecting blankets after peace talks" The disease spread was a deliberate weapon. I'm sure you knew that though; "just a couple bad apples" lol.

You literally argued that the murder of 95% of the native population over the course of just three generations wasn't genocide. Your exact words were: (Source: https://www.pbs.org/gunsgermssteel/variables/smallpox.html#:~:text=Within just a few generations, the population of the Americas.) "although id argue genocide is probably a stretch" Why, because they didn't kill 100% of them. Amazing stuff. The expert on native history is arguing that "Indians" isn't offensive and that genocide is a "stretch."

You have proven through your ignorance within this thread that you weren't taught any actual history of Native Americans; I know you haven't come to that realization yet, but maybe one day...
-
You know, we could teach about their cultures and past in SCHOOL and not through offensive caricatures that are sold for a profit by teams that aren't even affiliated with the community? I know that's a crazy concept to you.

Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread

It's not even just that... he wants to pay the same money, he just wants to get less for it. It One of the more bizarre takes I've ever seen on twitter. -

This was as serious tweet written by someone who follows baseball. "I'd rather have the guy for one less year for the same price." Truly amazing mindset from these people who run the White Sox. -
Where did I say that? And please spare me your sob story; it's so hard being a white man in America and this world, amirite? You realize I'm about as pastey and white as is humanly possible, right champ? You brought up slavery; this is where the American education system has failed. The institution of slavery in the USA was arguably the most hienous implementation of slavery in the history of studied mankind, and also the latest legalization of it in the developed world. Additionally, we committed mass genocide against Native American's in which now we celebrate via Thanksgiving, yay! I have to go get some work done, so you can be spared anymore responses from me for a while, but I hope you have a deep enough bathtub to catch all your pity, poor white guy, tears.

I know, it's actually much worse because you are claiming "you don't care at all" yet you still want the name to remain unchanged despite you knowing that it offends people - for a fact, you know it offends some natives. It honestly makes you sound intentionally evil. "You don't care" but your opinion is "fuck those people though." When I don't care about things, that means I'm good with doing what makes others feel better. That's kind of what "not caring" means.

Let me help you with this word. Inadvertent means to unintentionally do something. Like when my mother asked the woman at the dentist office how far along she was in her pregnancy when she wasn't pregnant; that is inadvertently offensive. If my mom then went back to the dentists office every time after that and continued to ask that question, it's no longer inadvertent. So, when they made the Indians name they were likely inadvertently offending people. After being told repeatedly that it is offensive to them, if they continued to refer to themselves as Indians, it now becomes deliberately offensive. So if you truly don't want to deliberately offend people, as you are claiming in this thread, then why do you keep posting in defiance? Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.

Man, the point is going right over your head. You're upset that natives have an opinion on something that directly impacts them. It bothers you so much so that you're here arguing against their opinion, telling them to be stronger lol. Yet, you're offended by the same thing and it has no direct impact on your life. Truly amazing.
-
You're clearly offended; you're here in this thread arguing against a decision that impacts your life nilch. You're so offended you felt the need to seek out a study that agreed with you. You're arguing with posters whose opinion is "good with me, I got no skin in the game and might as well be respectful with something that means nothing to me." Racist lolololol
-
You're not using the numbers; your actually cherry picking numbers to fit your narrative in order to make yourself feel better about your opinion.
-
Ron and ChiSox are the type of people that tell their wives (if they exist) to pick anywhere they want for dinner because they don't care. Wife picks some place, and they moan and said... "Nooooooo, not that place." SMH, the worst kind of people. ?
-
You don't want to offend anyone, you're just offended when they tell you that it's offensive to them. Makes sense. Keep that logic flowing.
-
Isn't this exactly what you're doing? My stance is I don't give a shit about team names, but I respect the people who actually are related to the issue and do care. So if they are going to change it to not offend even 10 people, I'm all good with it because again... it means nothing to me. That's what it actually means when you "don't care."
-
You're white I'm guessing; which literally explains this. It's very easy to not be offended when you've been the one committing atrocities for the duration of mankind. I know, because nothing offends me, because I've had a leg up in pretty much every aspect of life. And again, you are acting offended that they're changing the team name when you have NO CONNECTION to the team or the name. That makes you significantly more "soft" than people who feel they are being exploited by professional organizations who don't care one bit about educating fans on Native History; because they actually have skin in the game. You have none, yet here you are getting outraged that other people have feelings that aren't the same as yours. Amazing you don't see the irony in that.
-
You can't acknowledge that your study was done and funded by a team with some serious bias, and that even in that study 10% of Native's were offended. Why do you want to offend 10% of any group of people just to maintain a teams pointless name?

Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
Look at Ray Ray Run replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is it for me; they're not going to spend the money anywhere else so fuck it; spend it on Hendriks. I wouldn't even want a closer for four years - especially at his age and the brief history of success for most closers - but I know they're not going to reinvest that money anyway so ff it. The Sox have spent the past few years saying they were ready to play with the big boys but all they've done is continue to refuse to ever overpay anyone which is required to sign bigger FA's. They just have never learned their lesson despite all the milks they've drank at the table. -
If you think you learned a non-white washed Native American history then I really can't help you. I can link you some books if you'd like to read about real history - not just the few incidents we felt the need to teach. For example, did you know we are occupying vast land that we agreed to give up in many agreements? That we have robbed and pillaged native Communities within the last 100 years? Why do you care what the Cleveland baseball team is named? Why is it so difficult for people like you to have some respect for people who disagree with you and feel strongly about something that is personal to them but not to you? It's truly baffling. Oh, and what tribe was Chief Black Hawk a part of? I'm sure you'll look it up now, but the point remains.
-
LOL this is kind of like when people would cite BP studies to show that oil use wasn't causing global warming. This is my favorite line from the article you linked: "The results — immediately celebrated by team owner Daniel Snyder and denounced by prominent Native American leaders" Again, if it offends just one out of every ten natives, that's one too many for a stupid team name. I honestly don't understand why this is difficult to understand.

Do the sox even have another need?
Look at Ray Ray Run replied to Dominikk85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If we were going someone besides Hendriks I think it should be Kirby Yates. Trevor Rosenthal has proven enough throughout his career that if the situation actually matters, he will fold. The walks are just unacceptable when things start mattering. -

Yeah, I'd feel better with two more. This season is going to be a weird one; hopefully these guys have a full normal lead up, otherwise I'm worried we'll see even more injuries than we saw in the shortened season. -

Yeah, that as well. In general the Sox staff wasn't challenged last year. This year will be an entirely different world. Also, we mashed a lot of garbage last year if we're being honest with ourselves but the good news is there's still a lot of garbage out there. -

I hope so; my concern mostly lies with the pitching staff. The AL Central pitching staffs weren't below league average - I'd argue that Cleveland pushed them upwards. The AL Central offenses last year were bad; the best offense was the White Sox, who obviously our pitchers didn't have to face. Cleveland had arguably the worst offense in baseball, Detroit and KC - we know what they were - and the Twins offense took a big step back. I worry about what the pitching does in general vs the entire league. Keuchel isn't as good as he was last year - at least not at this point in his career - and Cease was about the luckiest pitcher on earth last year. I think Giolito will be fine because he can shove vs anyone anytime, and Lynn will likely be solid. The Sox pitching concerns were hidden by a weak division offensively last year, and they really haven't done much to advance the staff.
