6/12 GT - White Sox vs. Dodgers (6:40pm CST)
Offense is a juggernaut right now. I said somewhere else, I judge players based on what they do because as a fan, all that matters is outcomes. and i judge GMs on what players were expected to do. GM's are buying expected outcomes.

The best part of baseball is all that matters is what you actually do, i agree with Manny! No one judges a player on what he should have done in his career.

What a bait and switch by the White Sox. I knew something seemed off.

The Future of the White Sox TV Broadcast Team
I actually think Jason Benetti disproves this theory. I don't like Benetti as much as many here appear to because I personally like my announcers to be as invested in winning and losing as I am as a fan... because I grew up with Hawk Harrelson and that's the bar that was set. I hate that sports have moved away from this, and I actually don't understand why they have. Jason obviously doesn't have a "feel for sports...." Come on. He's just well researched, studies the material, and knows how to action it. The guy obviously cannot relate to what is happening on the field... come on. Jason was so fucking chummy when they were bad, but at least he didn't lie to your face like Schiff has. The only thing that's changed about Schiff this year is the team is playing well. I don't even listen to the Sox announcer feed anymore because Schiff is that bad. Costas made it seem like he was tricked into calling that game, he wasn't paying attention, didn't know the score, yet somehow he did 100 times the job that Schiff did. It's amazing honestly.

Hopefully one day i can be as sharp and astute as you are Nostradamus

Sox acquire Nolan Jones
Yup, the injuries also hurt the offense. No one has back up support for losing star players. It's easier to cover for a loss for a few weeks, but when they're out 2/3 a season it's an entirely different story.

Sox acquire Nolan Jones
Injuries? The Sox have lost outfielders that were already not reliable starters in the first place. They've lost one big league starter this year (Murakami). I think Periera might be pretty solid but he's certainly not a guaranteed high level starter. The 2021 team lost Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert - two guys that were legit All-Stars in 2020. I love that I'm cherry picking stats by presenting you negative value players... which you implied were more prevalent on those teams because of the lack of depth. Which was 1000% factually wrong. Youre comparing losing Brooks Baldwin and Everson Periera to losing Eloy and Robert at that time. It's hilarious. Please spare me your "i miss" nonsense. My analysis is accurate and an actual representation of what happened and not a rewriting of history while pretending like you saw the bottom falling out in 2021. By the way, ive had a ton of positive things on this team so please stop with the BS that im being negative. My posts are there for you to read pal. Edit: Sorry, they lost 2 starters because of Teel but plenty were arguing that Quero was as good last year (obviously not me, as I'm team Teel!)

This "depth is so much better than the last team" narrative isn't true either. The Sox certainly have more PROSPECTS waiting in the wings on the position player side, but this team doesn't have more depth... The Sox have 9 players who have played and generated negative value for them on offense this year. In 2021, the Sox had 6 guys with negative value for the year and two of those guys (Eaton and Vaughn) were and are obviously viable big league starters. Vaughn has become one in Milwaukee and Eaton obviously was one. Additionally, the 2021 team had ONE pitcher produce negative WAR and it was -.1 while this team has already had 7 pitchers generate negative WAR In total, the 2021 team with "no depth" had 7 guys on their roster not put up positive WAR. So far this team has 16 of those guys. Can we please stop rewriting history?

Peters wasn't upper minors depth (the Sox had basically no certified big league outfielders coming into the year), and he has supplied no more value on a rate basis than Adam Engel in 2021. Difference was Engel played much less. Again, we have this weird way of rewriting history. The 2021 team got 2.1 WAR from Leury Garcia and positive production from Engel as depth pieces. Also, you're drawing far too many conclusions from 60 games of defensive metrics. Peters had a 50-55 grade with defense and his legs and he's played well, and like a 55 defender in CF. 55 defenders have stretches of great defensive production. Defensive metrics are volatile and move around quite a bit in samples as small as Peters. Lastly, a 295 wOBA would have placed Peters 135 of 145 qualified hitters in baseball last year. Michael Harris had a wOBA of .289 last year and he is as good of a defender and baserunner (I'd argue better), and he had 1.4 fWAR over 160 games. A .295 wOBA is not in fact consistently playable, and guys typically aren't allowed to put up such production while maintaining consistent playing time. Saying that Peters offense is going to "regress" is putting it very lightly. Of 208 hitters with 180+ AB's in 2026, Tristan Peters has 2nd biggest variance between xwOBA and wOBA... and by A LOT. His difference .055, and the 3rd ranked player variance is .049. Sometimes you throw s%*# against the wall and you get lucky. Also, his field and speed have ALWAYS out ranked his offensive grades so not sure I agree with you at all on the questionable defender formidable offensive player narrative. Peters is not a 2.5 WAR starter in the MLB on a consistent basis. He has had a nice stretch where things have gone his way and that's great and he deserves credit for it, but it by no means signifies that he is a league average starter. People simply don't let guys with that offensive production start for long duration's of time in the big league.

I'm not sure the point your trying to make with Peters. Everyone knew Peters could defend and run the bases, none of that was a secret. He just couldn't hit. This year he has an xwOBA of .293 (in the 18th percentile), but just as is the case every year in baseball, some players have some really nice batted ball luck. His xwoba is 55 points lower that his actual, which is near the biggest gap in baseball. I'll add, since this has been a hot topic of late, that I judge the player based on the actual outcomes (as Machado was speaking too) because that's fair and outcomes are what drive results. I judge management based on expected results, because those are what we're projecting and are better indicators of future performance. Jones' one good year came in Colorado too. I actually used to like Nolan a good bit, but at 28 his defense and baserunning has degraded more and Cleveland's offense is a good bit worse than the Sox and they had no use or interest in using him. While the Hill move seemed like good process, this one seems less like good process.

At what point do we start to believe?
People flip out here about everything my guy. It's not a great barometer. That team was 10 games over .500 after 60 games. This team is 5 games over 500 after 67 games. There was much more hype for the last rebuild going into 2020 than there was hype for this year. Fans then changed their expectations for the group, and were disappointed. That will also happen with this team as soon as people adjust their expectations. Right now, many are just expecting the floor to fall out so the enjoyment with each win is at an all-time vibehigh. For the record, I enjoyed it all because I just want to compete and be entertained for the summer.

Derek Hill to Phillies, Pereira reinstated
Hmmm, I think it's nice to get something for a guy you are going to DFA, but upside prospects? The White Sox got the infield version of Derek Hill for Derek Hill. As noted, definitely nice to get something for a guy you're going to DFA, and more importantly nice to get a guy who has future value when you don't need the current value... but this is good process, and a likely nothing outcome.

At what point do we start to believe?
The 2020 team had a great vibe, and many people blamed the vibes and shift in them on LaRussa. Going into 2021, everyone was vibing. They were rocking shirts mocking Madrigal and having a good time with it. The Eloy jersey situation was happening. Again, we're all rewriting history here. The vibes changed when the team flamed out and didn't get the job done. They flamed out when the expectations grew significantly. This team right now is riding the no-expectations wave. More of these guys came up together so there's more history in the Sox favor with this team, but beyond that I'm not going to pretend like I wasn't on cloud 9. Those two teams were a lot of fun, but expectations have a funny way of changing perceptions.

At what point do we start to believe?
I don't think anyone was hating on the makeup of the team in 2020 and in August of 2021, White Sox fans were feeling about as good as they've ever felt about their team after the Field of Dreams game.

At what point do we start to believe?
I just want to clear one thing up. I hate on everyone's opinions equally, and in no way, shape or form do I support a position or a post just because someone said it versus someone else. I rip into CWS2023 as much as anyone here. He just doesn't get upset about it or take it personally. He has some fun with it like I do. I also disagree with SS2k's post all the time but we say one or two things, and then move on.

Jacob Gonzalez called up, per Passan
Sox are going to need to trade some infielder(s) for pitching i think. They better pick the right ones to trade, but no reason Gonzalez cant be the 5th infielder who can cover all 4 positions and DH on the non-defense days.

Top 2 offense in the AL for a very extended period of time now. That'll play!!!!

At what point do we start to believe?
Do you not understand how silly you sound everytime you mock someone for "knowing everything" because they give their opinion yet youre constantly spewing your opinion? I get youre obsessed with deferring to perceived authority, but i actually think for myself and don't need to have a job title to have an educated opinion. You perceive it as me thinking im smarter than everyone when I give my opinion, yet when you do it it's reasonable. Make it make sense. You ever notice how I dont critique you for thinking youre smarter than everyone everytime you express a thought?

At what point do we start to believe?
Yeah, how crazy to call a GM setting records of futility bad. It's funny how two+ years of s%*# isnt enough to judge off of but 2 months of competitive baseball is enough to proclaim greatness.

We really doing celebratory laps after two games now? Weird! Braden looks great! Love it for him and hope he plays up to the level and keeps it going. I certainly havent changed my perspective after 8 AB's, but it might change after 100 or so!

At what point do we start to believe?
There is more position player depth and a good amount of talent. There were certainly more people (madrigal, vaughn and crochet for example) that came up in waves, they just sucked. So far our call ups have been succeeding and it's great to see. I think the pitching is incredibly thin, and poses a large risk if Schultz can't get it sorted and stay healthy. Good news is they should have money to supplement, but it's not like i'm more excited about this team than I was about the 2020 team. I'm not rewriting history. I cant emphasize this enough. This team is a lot of fun for two reasons... They're doing cool stuff! Great comebacks, love being an underdog. There were no expectations and we're coming off two years where the team was literally unwatchable. The bar was lowered and we all want to be entertained. I Said it before, but if the 2021 had this record after 65ish games, people wouldnt be as thrilled.

Can someone explain how this "rebuild" has been more successful than the prior one? Seems like revisionist history to me. Let's wait to see how things play out before annointing kings.

Ive been relegated to the tablet and phone to stream the games. My son says "dad, you watch white sox baseball on your phone. The TV is for me." I do get to watch still at least, but havent watched on the TV yet this year lol. Ill say, if Colson is out and Mune, it really changes my optimism a bit but this team has been catching the breaks this year so hoping Colson back is temporary. Sounds pretty scary though
