That’s a big “if.” So big that it’s usually why we don’t see these types of extensions. The Padres & Phillies are pretty happy with the Machado & Harper contracts!

It made no sense back then and makes even less sense today. Hahn was desperate to alleviate the embarrassment of the Machado fiasco and this was his solution.
