I just don't like this argument. How many times was Eloy subbed for last year? Castellanos is a bonafide MLB hitter and an upgrade from Mazara at the plate. I think it's silly to not pick a better RF because of 9th inning subs. You need to let Eloy play the field anyways.

Leury is a super sub, he's not a straight OF.

People keep shitting on Collins but he is presumably our backup catcher in 2021 when this team should be better and more complete than 2020. I don't like the idea of stunting his growth for another year, which is what will happen with McCann and EE. I hope they trade McCann tbh but that seems unlikely.

I'd take Ozuna or Castellanos but I prefer Castellanos. He has something like the 3rd most XBHs in the majors over the last 3 years.

I also want to throw out his 5.8 fWAR the last 2 years, playing on a field as big as Rikers Island 75% of it. But some think it's a better idea to stand pat with Mazara, a legitimate non-tender candidate. NO, I SAY NO! Give BDN the JerryBux.

I've made this point as well. Dude is out there now. Betts is unobtainable, Springer is 30+ and will either have a shit ton of suitors or get extended, then you have Joc who is a platoon bat. Get the guy now for just money.

He's 27*, and with 2 years of development in RF. There are 2 types of bad OF's. Nick Castellanos types with lack of range but can still catch. He would benefit from the smaller dimensions and Luis in CF. Then there are Clint Fraziers and Santanas who can't even catch baseballs.

That's not really fair though. He's only played RF for 2 years and improved in 2019. Comerica is also not really good to play in if you don't have range, which he doesn't.

He's pretty fucking bad but he was much better in Wrigley which will play more similar to GRF than that Airport in Detroit. It's not like he can't catch the ball he just doesn't have range.

Giving up any prospect worth value for a replacement level player, and planning on him being your starting RF, is a horrible plan.

That is literally what I wanted him for before FA, but then got the "FOURTH OF NEEDS TO BE + DEFENSE WAHHGHH" on here, which I get. I felt before we got him Mazara would be a decent gamble to just balance the lineup with. If he sucks it's fine because BDN is smashing 80+ XBHs a year.

My pre FA plan was Mazara as 4th OF and Nick in RF. If we can get both that's pretty decent upside. I'm just not sold at all on Mazara and there is no reason to be. At least with Nick you know he's going to fuck at the plate. I've said this a million times but all of his metrics have him progressing in the power dept. Getting out of Comerica is just a bonus. AND he knows the division.

I had him around 16/3 before FA started. He's probably around 18/4 right now because of how this market has been. That is not going to cripple us and you can always trade him if need be. Unless you trust Mazara is something he's never been, we need a legitimate RF bat still.

They should be getting a few arms from the minors over the next couple years. Hopefully.

He's not going to get 20 million. They can sign him and still be under 130 million which is a reasonably low number for a grown up baseball team. They also have 23 or 24 million coming off next year with McCann, Colome, and Herera.

My whole thing is this. It boils down to Joc or Springer next year, one is a platoon bat and one probably gets extended imo. I don't want to get Wheeler'd next year as Mazara could continue to be an absolute nothing. Sign the guy you know can hit the shit out of the ball and go for it now.
