  1. But therein lies the problem. They 100% aren't giving Mookie Betts 380 million dollars. So now you have Joc Pederson who is another platoon bat and Springer who is going to cost 100 million dollars in his 30's and I'm gambling will get extended by the Astros anyways. Castellanos is going to get 16-18 over 4 years, that is in no way crushing for this team and would be easily movable if he maintains 2.5-3 WAR which every indication and metric seems to support.
  2. And Mazara was -8.1dfWAR and does not hit nearly well enough or do anything else well enough to make up for that. That is the point I am making. It is a shitty trade because he does NOTHING well. Being 24 is not a skillset. Castellanos has put up 5.8 fWAR over the last 2 years and 1.5 years of that was playing in a giant ass field that sapped his HRs and arguably hurt his defensive value since he doesn't have good range. Which is why his dfWAR improved a lot his second year in the position. Mazara has played in a bandbox launching pad for 4 years and sucks. This isn't even necessarily about Castellanos, it's about us not actually improving RF vs the rest of the league and now have to see a platoon with Leury Garcia and Adam fucking Engle when we are supposed to be competing. It's not a win now move at all, that is a rebuilding team move to take a flier on a guy that has been ass for 4 years and "hoping" for a breakout even though NOTHING in his numbers tell you that is going to happen.
  3. By what metric aside from your opinion? Because by fWAR which literally almost everyone on this site goes by he is? He is the best RF available that is obtainable over at least the next 2 years unless you plan on getting Pederson that will surely have plenty of suitors.
  4. Castellanos has the 3rd most XBHs in baseball the last 3 years and has increasingly good peripherals over the same period. Mazara has been the same replacement level player for 4 years and was/is a legitimate non-tender candidate. If you are going to aquire a player via trade when you are about to compete, he should at least be good at 1 facet of the game. The move isn't going to "blowup" because the rest of the lineup is so strong. That doesn't make this a good move because of that.
  5. Mazara is bad at defense and bad at hitting. The move doesn't make any sense regardless of how you want to split it.
  6. Imagine just signing Castellanos or Ozuna so you didn't have a platoon featuring Adam Engle or Leury.
  7. And common sense, since there hasn't been any reporting ATL has offered 4.
  8. Twins front runners for Donaldson now due to the 4 year offer. That would really suck if he went there. Here's to hoping ATL matches.
  9. This RP market is pretty barren now and I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable giving Hudson or Harris 2 year deals. Put me in on the Diaz fantasy I guess.
  10. The opt out hurts his trade value a little imo but the only reason that is in the contract was to keep the Rockies honest about being competitive. Arenado is one of those guys that really, really, values playing on a contending team. Assuming he goes to a perennial contender it shouldn't really be a huge thing. Of course you'll have to consider it as a GM trying to obtain him but I think it's overblown due to his personality. He is definitely worth it even though his splits have a big variance.
  11. Rutherford doesn't have much value other than a throw in, and he doesn't have any realistic path to the majors. Even if Hahn does nothing to legitimately fix RF (He still hasn't), someone like Adolfo or Basabe would be ahead of Rutherford imo.
  12. A vesting option is not a club option though, so I'm going to assume the WSox twitter has it correct. Which would be a much better deal.
  13. Springer had 34 in 2017 and 40 something this year. Also Acuna.
  14. I don't really care about this kind of stuff usually but it has been a really long time to have nothing officially announced. Just press send on Twitter.
  15. This just gave me AIDs. I'm assuming you put a lot of time into this but it is unreadable due to the skitzo formatting
  16. I thought the Kela thing was with the pitching coach not the players?
  17. Yoan shouldn't be anywhere but the 2 or 3 spot. Didn't they try leading him off last year and he was bad or am I mis-remembering? He is the ideal 2 hitter. Robert Yoan Eloy EE Grandal Abreu Tim Mazara Madrigal Is what I would probably do depending on performance. I like Madrigal at 9 to get on for Robert, wouldn't mind flipping Tim to 8 for the same reason. Abreu is probably cemented at 3rd though because of our manager. Eloy it would depend if he was like the September Eloy or early season Eloy. Either way that lineup is extremely deep and should hit for a lot of power.
  18. Yeah IDK why legendary sportscaster Steve Stone would be getting any information at all from the front office when theres a direct pipeline. You're right, he should save it for the REAL insiders with less direct communication.
  19. Probably Leury to start the season. I'm hoping Robert by seasons end. I like thunder and lightning thing the Braves and Astros do at leadoff.
  20. Imagine being friends with your boss and working for the business you tweet about.
  21. 1 impact arm they can lean on would be great. Outside of Bummer I don't really trust anyone in the pen.
  22. Advanced metrics like him but he's just not very good and gives up a million HRs. He's one of those guys that remind me new age stats and metrics on pitchers have kinks still. You can't tell me Lance Lynn was the 11th best player in baseball last year for the same reason, despite having a really good year.
  23. The Tigers refusal to trade Boyd unless they get a Sale type return is bizarre. At least with Merrifield in KC he's hilariously cheap over the length of his deal.
  24. Low 80's. Mostly because our rotation is still a pretty big unknown. We should mash though.
