Maeda's contract is structured to where he has to start a certain amount of games or something weird before he goes to the pen, and it's all incentive based iirc. That Pederson return gave me AIDs. Yikes.
-
Man I can't wait to see this return.

This looks pretty good. I didn't think they would be a playoff team this year and 83 wins sounds right. They aren't going to grab a wildcard and the Twins are still a better team. This year will still be very exciting and fun.

Is Mookie Betts a real option for the Sox with payroll history??
BackDoorBreach replied to Kpet1010's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Gotta be LA. That rumored price seems awfully steep for 1 year. Verdugo, Downs, and single A SP with really solid #s. -

So start him in RF since he's a better fielder than Mazara. I never wanted Puig really but he's still an upgrade over what we have currently. -
Summit usually just for memes and he's decent enough. Landmark is absolutely savage but he only gets like 500 viewers on his stream and he pretty much only plays Labs from what I've seen. He's probably better or on par with Shroud. I only see Shroud though when he plays with Summit since Shroud plays on Mixer instead of Twitch now.

I'm not trying to discredit the Sox at all, at the end of the day they were able to lock up 2 cogs for this eventual playoff machine. There is a difference though signing an under 21 LatAM prospect and signing one that is polished and 26 or 27 or whatever Abreu was. That kind of talent at that age is noticeably MLB caliber, the same with a guy like Gurriel. And LuBob is/was being heralded as a generational type player. My point is both of those 2 moves were relatively low risk, in relative terms. Wake me up when they start churning out 100k signing bonus guys into MLB starters.
-
Can you really count Abreu and Robert in that though? It's not like the Sox "found" them. They were both considered can't miss guys, every scout knew that. The Cuban thing is clearly beyond just perception at this point. With that being said the LatAm thing is one of the more frustrating things about this franchise.

Holt, more positional versatility than Dozier and will get on at a respectable rate. LH and appears he can hit LHP pitching as well. I'd be fine with Dozier I guess, but you'd have to count on a Leury/Mendick combo if Tim or Yo get hurt again. He has only played 2B after his rookie year in 2012.
-
I mean, what games did you play before? That's been pretty much how every RPG/Strategy/Survival game has been for like 10 years.
-
This list is bad and the author should feel bad. With that being said I feel comfortable putting the Sox in the upper single digits. Moncada and Tim will regress a bit but the lineup overall is very strong and is going to face a lot of bad pitching staffs.

What do you expect from Eloy in 2020?
BackDoorBreach replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He hit 31 last year while being injured a ton of games. 25-30 HRs would be a huge power outage. Even if they change the ball it's not going to really effect players like Eloy with legitimate power too greatly. -

I'd imagine they'd be trading Verdugo? Pollock, Betts, Bellinger, Pederson is a pretty crowded OF. Bellinger is going to be playing a lot of 1B I guess. -

.850+ OPS and ~40 bombs. He needs to pull the ball and elevate more. I think his defense improves a tad as well. He was ungodly hot in September, so we should see something closer to that than how he was the first couple months. -
We have mendick and leury assuming nobody gets hurt in the first month.

I honestly see so point in giving Madrigal an extension at all. Nobody really knows what his offensive game is at the MLB level. He could be a slightly better offensive slightly worse defensive version of Yolmer. Let him hang in the minors for a bit and if he is doing well, promote him. It's not like he would be that expensive to extend anyways since his ceiling doesn't seem to be really high.
-
There is no way Madrigal would have a legitimate case staying in AAA for a bit. He was good last year in the minors but he wasn't exactly destroying the plate.
-
He HAS to be shipped out now yeah? I'm guessing the Cubs/Bryant found out unofficially the other day when they picked up Souza and JJ. I don't think he's going to be the only domino.
-
There is no way this should have taken 5 years.

Steve Stone Hinting At Another Move: Not Puig / Castellanos
BackDoorBreach replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He's 31 now so it has to be a 1 final pay day or I want to be a starter thing. Either way I hope we can get him. That extends our bench a lot if we get an injury. -

Holt would be a really nice bow on the offseason. There is 0 chance Madrigal is up opening day based on the chatter from the FO and Stone. There is a reason he hasn't been signed though. I'm wondering if he wants a legit starting job. -

I'm actually OKAY with the Sox not mortaging more future assests for 2 years of Marte. He's a really good player, but shedding another wave of players for that is on the downside for me. I don't think the Sox will overtake the Twins this season and I don't think they will win enough to be a WC. In my mind, you are only getting 1 year of control of Marte at that point for pieces that could be impactful in 3 or so years when we are actually competing. -

Sure, because they traded for him instead of signing an above average, above replacement level, above DFA candidate OF. What else are they supposed to say? "We're actually just rolling the dice here". -
Not a chance. We will be limited to Joc Pederson and Ozuna.
