How about a little common sense reasoning to this Rendon discussion? The Sox whiffed on Machado so they moved Moncada to 3B, likely with the thought in mind that they just drafted a 2B in the first round. They have cried poor countless times when it finally comes to sealing the deal and locking up a big time free agent. But next offseason, the Sox are going to pay big money for Rendon and move Moncada back to 2B or play Rendon at 2B? And they will just keep Madrigal in limbo? Deep down, you guys must realize this hypothetical Rendon signing isn’t happening, right? What recent events have occurred regarding the Sox in free agency that indicate that the Sox will spend big on a top free agent? Haven’t we already received the answer to this question ?

Rendon? Oh wait, they already moved Moncada to 3B. Since most of the best players were already extended, the Sox will use it as an excuse to not spend any big money. After the Machado fiasco, I seem to remember Hahn already saying that top free agents are pretty much out of the Sox range money-wise and they will look to extend their own players before spending money on free agents.

Hahn’s excuse will definitely be unexpected injuries before he ever mentions taking the wrong players in the draft.

No, I still expect studs like Leury, Castillo, Alonso, Tilson, and Yolmer to be successful regardless of whom they are facing.

Well, yeah. Most contending teams aren’t starting trash like Leury Garcia, Welington Castillo, Yonder Alonso, Charlie Tilson, and Yolmer Sanchez. Most teams would have to call up a couple bums from AAA and throw them into their worst Sunday lineup imaginable just to compete with what the Sox are throwing out there on a daily basis.
