  1. I think it has more to do with Alonso being terrible and not wanting his 2020 option to kick in than Palka being good.
  2. Also, if you have T-Mobile, you get it free every year before the season starts.
  3. The Sox drafted Rodon. A rookie contract isn’t anywhere close to a free agent contract monetarily. And now please name “whoever.”
  4. Whatever you say. Have you even check who Keuchel’s agent is? It’s not happening.
  5. And where are these starters coming from? All I see is Cease and the Sox don’t seem to want to start his clock yet. And the Sox aren’t going to spend on Keuchel after the draft.
  6. No one thinks Palka is the answer to any question. But Alonso is a waste of $9 million and if they cut him now to bring up Palka, they will at least avoid activating Alonso's $9 million dollar option for 2020. Palka should only ever see the DH spot.
  7. I guess my point is, Palka could be doing just as well as Alonso right now but at $8.5 million cheaper. Hence, Alonso was a waste of $9 million. I also agree that Eloy should DH but the Sox won't go that route until he racks up the errors and keeps getting injured.
  8. Yep. I don't care about Palka's 35 major league at bats to start the year. He is now hitting .291 / .994 with 6 homers in 86 AAA at bats. Alonso was a colossal waste of $9 million dollars. Palka should have never ever been earmarked for RF, only DH.
  9. Yep, it's time to cut Alonso loose and give Palka another shot. You aren't getting anything for Alonso at the deadline and his $9 million dollar contract is already a sunk cost. Alonso hitting his 2020 option would be a nightmare. Cut him now and see what Palka can do. Alonso, Jay, Nova, Santana... worst freaking offseason ever. I wish I got paid to burn $23 million dollars.
  10. Will Nova be the second starting pitcher acquired by Hahn this past offseason that he will be forced to DFA? What an embarrassing offseason.
  11. He's having a good stretch for sure: Frankie Montas racked up a career-high 10 strikeouts over 8 2/3 innings of two-run baseball in Friday's victory over the Tigers. Montas scattered just four hits on the night and didn't walk a batter. He came within one out of his first career complete game, but A's skipper Bob Melvin had to get him after Miguel Cabreras' two-out RBI double in the ninth. The 26-year-old hurler now sits at 5-2 on the season with a stellar 2.67 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 52/11 K/BB ratio over 54 innings. He'll look to keep the good times rolling when he does battle against the Indians in Cleveland on Wednesday.
  12. Never an All-Star but a good example nonetheless.
  13. But only one GM wanted Shields. The Padres owner even ripped Shields before the trade.
  14. Haha, that is perfect Rick speak.
  15. You can’t spend a dollar when you only have fifty cents.
  16. Well, all decisions failed miserably regardless.
  17. I remember some posters, including fathom, wondering why Hahn didn’t just bring back García after seeing him acquire junk like Alonso and Jay and ultimately whiff on Machado. And also because Hahn didn’t improve the outfield at all.
  18. Even if you argue that letting García go gave him the wakeup call to perform this season, why did Hahn pay more base salary for a guy in Jay who arguably had a worse offensive season last year? Obviously, Jay can’t stay healthy either so that’s a tough sell as well.
  19. Have you even read the thread? Hahn paid more for Jon Jay than Avi and Jay hasn’t even suited up yet for the Sox yet. 😂
  20. This may be an excuse for Avisail but not for Hahn. Hahn spent more guaranteed money ($4 million) on Jon Jay than Avisail cost ($3.5 million), and Jay hasn’t even suited up yet for the Sox. Hahn blew another signing, period. There is zero positive spin on this, as much as you try to defend it. You guys are absolutely ridiculous homers to even entertain this defense of Hahn and the Sox. Avisail at 27 was much younger than Jay at 34 and was a much better bet to improve on a one year deal but Hahn decided to sign Jay for more money because he has zero foresight and is a terrible GM.
