Twins Sign Donaldson
The guy is a 5 WAR player. It was basically like them adding a Yasmani Grandal. Were you excited about adding Grandal?

What would it take to get Nolan Arenado?
Eh, most teams would’ve done the same thing IMO. We are just lucky that our young stud prospects don’t share the same agent as Bryant.

Just bringing back classic Kenny memories. I’m sure he won’t be stupid enough to bring that quote back this time around.

MLB cheating scandal
True, the burden of proof is on the prosecutor. It’s likely Keuchel knew about the sign stealing but you would have to question his teammates as witnesses. And Keuchel was never busted by an umpire using foreign substances during a game as far as I know so this would be even more difficult to prove.

Maybe Kenny will bring back his old quote from when the Tigers acquired Miguel Cabrera... This just puts the Twins a little closer to competing with the Sox for the division. ?

Yes. Abreu 2019: 1.9 fWAR 2020: 1.8 fWAR (Steamer projection) Donaldson 2019: 4.9 fWAR 2020: 5.3 fWAR (Steamer projection)

Why hasn’t Moncada signed an extension then? Grandal is here and both Abreu and Robert were extended...

Twins Sign Donaldson
I just said what I would have done with Abreu in my last post. I have yet to see proof that Robert wouldn’t have signed an extension if Abreu was only given the one year qualifying offer. Moncada has not signed an extension yet so this is a moot point for now. Besides, Abreu could be gone by the time Moncada does sign and extension, if and when he does.

So you say he is nearing the end of his career? Then be smart and don’t simply pay him more for past performances. Stick with the qualifying offer and go year to year.

What would it take to get Nolan Arenado?
I don’t doubt that the Cubs are willing to move him but could see your last statement being the reason that they don’t.

Good post. People who think the Abreu 3/$50 million extension was good need to look no further than Sano’s 3/$30 million extension to see that it really wasn’t.

What would it take to get Nolan Arenado?
The Cubs have had the guts to charge fans more money to watch their games on a new network after a season in which they missed out on the playoffs and have yet to sign a player to a major league contract this offseason. Ricketts has no shame and he will definitely have the guts to trade Bryant to get under the luxury tax range.

Nothing will make the Abreu deal look better. The Sox threw extra money at him when they didn’t need to. Why are people comparing Donaldson to Abreu? He is a better hitter and a better defender at 3B, not 1B! Ridiculous comparison outside of their similar ages.

Guesses? Arenado to St. Louis. Bryant to Atlanta.

Bryant would only be a Twin for 1 or 2 years depending on the results of his grievance hearing. Give me the star that plays for the Twins for 2+ less seasons than the other guy.

Twins Sign Donaldson
Bryant was worth 4.8 fWAR last year, Donaldson was worth 4.9 fWAR. I think you are seriously underestimating Donaldson if he “doesn’t move the needle much for you.” He is definitely not a player to lump in with guys who had fluky career years for the Twins last season.

Twins Sign Donaldson
I assume you meant “not realistic” but crazier things have happened. Donaldson is 34 but this is a good deal for them because they can always move him to DH.
-
Twins Sign Donaldson
But that was never going to happen. The Twins giving up talent and $250+ million for Arenado or Bryant?
-
Twins Sign Donaldson
I guess with Sano moving to 1B, he is replacing Cron’s production from last year?

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reports that free agent third baseman Josh Donaldson has agreed to a four-year contract with the Twins. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic hears that there will be $92 million in guaranteed money and a fifth-year option that can push the total value to $100 million. https://mobile.twitter.com/Feinsand/status/1217251043811168257
