That's why no one is held accountable. JR certainly cannot hold those accountable who agreed with him. To be clear...if I owned the club I would want to poke my nose into it as well. Most of us would. It takes a certain kind of owner to set the budget and step aside. That's the owner who can hold his GM accountable with a clear conscience.
Giolito, Kopech and Cease all have TOR potential. Lopez has #2-3 potential IMO. An already establish TOR pitcher and another Lopez type would make us dangerous. The club would be very close to competing for all the marbles. Robert and Madrigal are key to speeding up the process.
No question Abreu is at minimum a border line star. Wish we would just extend him or have someone overpay us for him. I'm good with either. Just don't take some nothing return for him.
I feel Kenny has been far more responsible for Sox problems than Rick. Kenny has one of the best jobs in baseball. Nice salary and responsible for absolutely nothing.
Jerry will never work with a GM that wants only oversite from the owner. Hahn is a good soldier and probably works as well as anyone with our 3 headed management group. For Jerry's part... it's hard to hold others accountable when you play a major role in the decisions they make.
So much uncertainty would be made clear once we know the FO plan for Robert & Madrigal. If they are ready... the other needs fall in place pretty well. Mainly, a quality starter and a couple bullpen pieces.
With evaluating Avi & Jon side by side for the approximate same money I agree that my gamble would have been on Avi. Neither one would probably be part of the next championship but Avi would for sure have made this season more entertaining. Had a better chance at getting us something at trade deadline as well.
You don't think McCann & Collins takes care of catcher? You can even have Zivala for 3rd catcher/DH. The 2nd base and RF question revolves around Madrigal & Robert. Cordell and Sanchez work for me as placeholders for a while. One year deals on the right type guys could work but nothing that would block Madrigal & Robert.
Won't be back until Spring 2020 at best. Barely enough time to show he has anything. His agent won't be signing any cheap extensions so that probably leaves us trading before the deadline for something modest. Maybe he comes back like a house on fire and we recoup something kind of nice. I hate dealing with Boras as you can never find a fair middle ground with his clients.
