It would be cool to put his ass on the bench for 3 or 4 days and see if he can clear his head. What is it with these DH/1B guys we keep finding? So maddening.
Earl Weaver managed for 17 seasons with a win/loss % of .583 (1480-1060). His widely publicized managerial philosophy was pitching, defense and 3 run home runs win games. Repeatedly said "you only get 27 outs...don't waste them." I agree.
Most of us thought Dunn's signing was an unfixable disaster. He actually became somewhat tolerable with time. I don't think Alonso's situation is quite that dire. I would bat him lower in the order and release him if things don't get better by ASB. Taking up space from the young guys getting AB's and having Jimenez in outfield is more troubling than his dismal performance.
INFIELD: Moncada--Anderson--Madrigal--Abreu--Sanchez
OUTFIELD: Jimenez--Tilson--Cordell--Garcia--Robert
CATCHER: McCann--Collins
STARTERS: Cease--Giolito--Lopez
BULLPEN: Colome--Herrera--Marshall--Bummer--Burr--Hamilton
INJURED: Kopech
The above 22 players are available to make up the 25 man roster today...after trade deadline or start of next season. It doesn't look to be if but rather when this group is pulled together to form the next contending team. Need 2 quality starting pitchers to be dangerous.
A fair minded person would give Rick Hahn props for all three deals. Our probable starting rotation and minimum of two everyday players and possibly more. These deals alone should make the rebuild a success when coupled with top draft choices.
That's one reason I favor promoting Cease & Robert. The NFL drafts mostly out of big universities. The players having played against the bigger and best athletes have grown more than the counterpart at the small university. I think some of these players would grow better playing against the best. You would hit some speed bumps but probably develop better and faster in the long run. At least in some cases.
Best value and best for the White Sox both imply getting the better end of the deal. We obviously got the better end of the Eaton deal. Our two best starters this year and a future probable for one oft injured outfielder. I liked Eaton but would do this over in a heartbeat.
