  1. Ricky was on top of the situation to get Fry out of there quick. Borderline calls are really going Astros way.
  2. Fry is aggravating after Burr did such a nice job.
  3. Fry is quickly becoming a pain to watch.
  4. I agree. Just don't let him leave by getting shelled after doing a nice job.
  5. Houston has gotten 3 questionable strikes while Burr has been squeezed on three apparent strikes. This game is tough enough without that.
  6. Earl Weaver managed for 17 seasons with a win/loss % of .583 (1480-1060). His widely publicized managerial philosophy was pitching, defense and 3 run home runs win games. Repeatedly said "you only get 27 outs...don't waste them." I agree.
  7. Most of us thought Dunn's signing was an unfixable disaster. He actually became somewhat tolerable with time. I don't think Alonso's situation is quite that dire. I would bat him lower in the order and release him if things don't get better by ASB. Taking up space from the young guys getting AB's and having Jimenez in outfield is more troubling than his dismal performance.
  8. If I was putting money on it probably 2. I could put a positive spin on 3 and be really pleased with 4+.
  9. What you say is true but 13 years of Harper was not a good gamble IMO.
  10. Unfortunately money is part of the equation.
  11. I would like Cordell in the outfield...Jimenez at DH...Alonso on the bench. Best lineup for good defense-offense and Eloy health.
  12. INFIELD: Moncada--Anderson--Madrigal--Abreu--Sanchez OUTFIELD: Jimenez--Tilson--Cordell--Garcia--Robert CATCHER: McCann--Collins STARTERS: Cease--Giolito--Lopez BULLPEN: Colome--Herrera--Marshall--Bummer--Burr--Hamilton INJURED: Kopech The above 22 players are available to make up the 25 man roster today...after trade deadline or start of next season. It doesn't look to be if but rather when this group is pulled together to form the next contending team. Need 2 quality starting pitchers to be dangerous.
  13. I feel old. My grade school arguments were Ernie vs Nellie.
  14. Delmonico's recent defense has improved quite a bit IMO.
  15. To be fair...he's no where near the pain in the ass that LaRoche was.
  16. A fair minded person would give Rick Hahn props for all three deals. Our probable starting rotation and minimum of two everyday players and possibly more. These deals alone should make the rebuild a success when coupled with top draft choices.
  17. That's one reason I favor promoting Cease & Robert. The NFL drafts mostly out of big universities. The players having played against the bigger and best athletes have grown more than the counterpart at the small university. I think some of these players would grow better playing against the best. You would hit some speed bumps but probably develop better and faster in the long run. At least in some cases.
  18. In my heart I agree but money talks. JR does not like 9 million sitting and watching the game.
  19. Don't tell a player to bunt that doesn't know how. Drives me crazy.
  20. Two players of star potential for a good # 2/3 starter. Good for both teams but I like our long term on it. Very good trade for a rebuild.
  21. Best value and best for the White Sox both imply getting the better end of the deal. We obviously got the better end of the Eaton deal. Our two best starters this year and a future probable for one oft injured outfielder. I liked Eaton but would do this over in a heartbeat.
  22. A win tomorrow and only one game under .500. Always feel a team is in the hunt when over that marker. Let's go get er done.
  23. Giolito no longer has that deer caught in the headlights look. Actually, like all good pitchers he looks confident and has an air of control of the situation. Stoney complimented him today on how fast he worked which is one of my pet peeve's with Nova and all slow workers. Stone even wondered out loud why others on the staff don't see why it gives the pitcher an advantage to set the pace like that. I always use Buehrle as the best example of that.
  24. Great poll question. I love that for me these are not easy to answer. We did really--really well in all three trades in my opinion. Now, with a little time passing it is obvious we really won the Eaton trade. When Dunning is healthy 3 of our starters could well come from this deal. Sale and Q deals are both nice with each producing a potential TOR starter and at least 2 or 3 major league roster pieces who will be producing years after Sale & Q have hung em up. Since we did give up Sale & Q and they have produced well it hard to call them wins for us but more like everyone got what they wanted.
