  1. Agreed...Carlos will make the Giants look like geniuses or idiots. I of course will trust the FO to know his situation better than the other 29 clubs.
  2. I think the FO gambled he would be available at less than 18M per year just like last year when they got a bargain. I was thinking that 2 years at 16M might get it done if the injury fears were really out there.
  3. If Vaughn and Sheets are on the team they need to play someplace. Everyone can't be the DH. Vaughn/Sheets/Eloy will probably rotate through left, 1st, and DH while Vaugn and Sheets get some RF work. As others have said, if Vaughn is used in a big trade, then a right fielder is probably a sure thing.
  4. Wouldn't be the first time people liked the pedigree of former 1st rounders. Rebuilding clubs often go for multiple prospects when they need help everywhere.
  5. A deal might be built around two former 1st rounders like Burger and Collins.
  6. I know it wouldn't be popular but I still think the improvement will come from a better than expected 2nd base acquisition (Marte) and quality SP (Rodon). The Vaughn/Sheets/Engel/Garcia needs to be used somewhere and RF can be used as that place. Defense suffers a bit but it isn't like the names being talked about are Roberto Clemente types.
  7. No question he ran out of gas. Probably going to see something along the same line with Kopech this year.
  8. The cost of trading prospects is part of the equation. All things being equal...FA's are the way to go IMO.
  9. I think RH did him a solid by having him test the water without being encumbered with a QO. We know his actual health situation better than anyone and if it's as good as reported...why not?
  10. Rodon...we match any offer he gets would be my guess.
  11. I am hopeful the Cubbies want to bring back Kimbrel to placate the fan base.
  12. Yeah...the media thinks that all quality players belong on a coast team.
  13. I agree. We need our biggest contract in history to be a sure thing...not a hope it works out.
  14. Tampa is a scary team to trade with. They don't lose many of them.
  15. The political polling has been done and Durbin has an opinion.
  16. It would be sweet if Congress actually did something period.
  17. Scherzer isn't necessarily the best spokesman for the players at this point in time.
  18. Today the top pension is $255M but it is my understanding that Ernie Banks died in poverty. Ernie was one of those that built the game into the money maker it is today.
  19. I am always a bit surprised the players don't negotiate a large amount of money for the oldtimers pension fund. The old times who built this game are in some cases living in poverty while in the middle of the road today players have unimaginable wealth. I am aware they don't have any obligation to do so but it certainly would seem to be the right thing to do.
  20. Just like an opening day in baseball...I have played in some really crappy weather that first round or two of the year. I'm getting the itch.
  21. You sound like this is somehow a manly contest of who has the biggest balls. I have hardly bothered to comment once we passed D-day where games are lost. We are in uncharted water at this point and none of us know what's going on. Do you find it angry to say the lawyers are making lots of money? Truer words were never spoken. The owners obviously want to get on with the season and have come further than I would have expected. The players are smelling blood in the water...meaning they believe the owners want to end this more than the union leadership. If this plays out to a month or two more... there will be big losers on both sides of the table IMO. I learned a long time ago that negotiations need to end with both sides feeling they won some and lost some. When you try to clean the other guys' clock it oftentimes comes back to bite you in the ass. I cleaned my golf clubs today so am preparing myself for a nice long wait in negotiations.
  22. The Lawyers on both sides are making a fortune. They have no reason to rush the process.
  23. I still believe that Hahn thinks Kimbrel has tradeable value. He could have paid the small dollar amount to release him if his value was nothing that many board members feel is the case. This idea of paying in order to get someone to take him just doesn't make any sense.
  24. I don't think anyone on either side is worried about what we are fine with.
  25. This is what I would think and yet it doesn't seem to be the discussion anymore.
