Michael Conforto: His POV and the Wait
Sometimes Boras can overplay his hand. For the agent, it is no big deal but for the player...sometimes life-changing.

Rick Hahn & The Art of Resource Allocation
Projected fWAR discussions are a little too esoteric for me but I get the gist of your points. We have a top 5 team and some here feel the money available could and should be spent in a better way. I think once Kimbrel is gone and we see the return we will have a better idea of the whole plan. Kimbrel could net an upgraded 2nd baseman or SP. He might be used along with a Burger-type piece to acquire a sexy outfielder and backup catcher. Once he moves Kimbrel will he come back on Conforto? The next two weeks will be interesting as RH shows his cards. Until then...I hope he knows more about Kimbrel's value than I do. I would have just dropped the option and skipped right to the spend my money phase.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Balta...this sounds negative to me even though I am sure that wasn't your intent.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
I can't disagree with the point you are making but the off-season isn't over yet. Some of those NO's will be YES's shortly I hope. You know the old saying..." a watched pot never boils"

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Well, that would be fine if the FO has other plans. My plan is not to have $16M tied up in Kimbrel. Burger may well be used to acquire an SP. Adolfo may or may not have worn out his welcome. My feeling is that Burger will be traded or used at the ML level. That's why they are called opinions.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Burger, Adolfo, and whoever we get for Kimbrel. If Adolfo isn't on the roster we lose him in all probability. Burger has several ways to be useful as well. Kimbrel makes too much money for us to have a knot in the stomach whenever he is on the mound IMO.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
I agree with your SP want but the Kimbrel unload is my #1 concern as of now. We have real potential contributors who could use his spot on the roster.

You are nothing if not predictable Ron.

What has Bernie ever "fixed"?

Michael Conforto: His POV and the Wait
Obviously good at what he does...but not my cup of tea.

I believe you have achieved another sarcasm.

Will the whining never end?
Most people on this site have the intelligence and love of the sport to be the GM of the WS. Most of us follow the team on a daily basis and have a fair degree of baseball knowledge. What we don't have is 30 years in the FO experience of the business of baseball. We also don't come close to having the data they have that drives their decisions. I'm content to let RH and the FO figure out all the player acquisitions and payroll constraints.

Jake Burger is actually pretty interesting
I know that would seem to make the most sense at face value. My memory of how bad Moncada looked at 2nd the first time is what makes me nervous about it. As always, I trust the manager and coaches to figure it out.

Some of us wouldn't mind giving that a try. That lineup would be fun to watch.

Soxtalk is an education all in and of itself.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
When you need to use 2019 numbers to make the argument it tends to fall on deaf ears. I understand that Hayward was worth $20M per year 3 or 4 years back but his recent performance makes all that ancient history. I agree that the 1-year contract is the way for him to go and "if" he has another 3.5-4.0 fWAR he can regenerate his career. His failure to do that probably indicates that even he has some doubts.

I like your hat idea. Maybe one of those bucket hats the golfers wear.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Just because Boras says a player he represents wants a certain number doesn't make the player worth that amount. There is nothing in Conforto's body of work that makes him a $100M player IMO. It looks like the other GMs agree with Hahn. It won't surprise me a bit if Conforto signs with us within the next few weeks for a more team-friendly deal. A GM puts his team in a better position to win if he doesn't put all his eggs in one player's basket.

How to Contact the White Sox Execs/Sponsors and Demand TLR’s Termination
"Nearly every single thing breaking your way, like 2005" is necessary for whoever wins the WS...that's why the best team on paper frequently doesn't win the WS.

I don't see people making the argument that Conforto is a bad player. Rather I see the opinion that he is not a $100M player and his best years might already be behind him. I would be somewhat comfortable with the 4 years $75M contract that the WS reportedly offered. However, I do believe Vaughn/Sheets/Engle will produce a better offensive production than Conforto. For sure I want to avoid a Hayward situation where he can't play up to his contract.

The offseason is still a work in progress.

Will the whining never end?
He is saying that the whining is excessive.

Will the whining never end?
Yet another negative post. That is exactly what VA is talking about. We have one of the best teams in baseball and yet only the complainers can talk.

Will the whining never end?
Great Post! I guess we old guys see things in the same light.

How to Contact the White Sox Execs/Sponsors and Demand TLR’s Termination
A great reminder that things need to go right in a lot of areas to win the WS. Dye was a cast-off with poor defensive credentials that became World Series MVP. Our pitchers performed beyond anyone's expectations. I wonder if Vaughn could be this year's Dye. As the saying goes...that's why they play the games.
