  1. not sure exactly how that works either, I had forgotten he was drafted, but I don't think he opted out of college and declared for the draft but who knows how these things work. At any rate, he was the best pure qb I ever saw. And many of us believe that the only reason Steinbrenner offered Henson all that $$$$ was to get Henson out of UM and thus out of the UM-Ohio State game for what would have been Drew's senior year. The fact that we had beated OSU something like 11 out of 12 prior to the year Henson left for baseball and OSU won that year (by 4 points or something small) with Henson gone and the fact the the Buckeyes indoor facility is called Steinbrenner Hall is what feeds our little conspiracy theories.
  2. technical point: Henson cannot go back to the NFL because he has never been in the NFL. He can go back to Michigan where he has a year left of eligibility, last I knew, but we don't want him now.
  3. The use of the Nazi flag to refer to moderators at any cyber site is, in my opinion, an insult to the 6 million Jews and the 6 million homosexuals, gypsies, Communists, trade unionists, socialists, developomentally disabled, selected Eastern Europeans, and members of the resistance who died in the concentrations camps. Nothing that any moderator does is in any way remotely similar to the Holocaust. It also cheapens the symbol of evil to use for anything one doesn't like, and makes that symbol of hate easier and easier to use. If a symbol for a threat to free speech is needed, there are plenty: try Ashcroft, as in, "those mods at WSI are a bunch of Ashcrofts" for example. (I don't know whether they are, just an example.) But for the sakes of those who died in the concentration camps at the hands of the Nazis, please do not, I respectfully request, use the Nazi symbol for when someone is banned from a baseball message board.

Come on if I have to hear one more time about Eric Heiden, Mark Spitz or Dan Jansen falling, I am going to puke. how do you go from Munich 1972 and the deaths of what, 16 atheletes, to the examples you cite?

Jim McKay and the Up Close and Personal segments are/were awesome. That is why they have 24 hour coverage, or close to it for the Olympics. Those athletes are usually one time things and the story is usually pretty good. They used to be about promoting the innocence and achievement in athletes, Eddie the Eagle being the exception. Now an Up Close and personal on Kobe in the Athens games would make me cringe. It just seems that with ESPN having four networks along with ABC, everything is about promotion and not sport. It seems that recently it is out of control. A case in point the story about....ah crap I forget his name but the lineman the was hit by Sapp. I thought it was cheap shot and they went on about the rehab which was all fine and dandy but the feeling I got was this was the beginning of a hype campaign for the Packer/Buc game in November. The hit was clean and although I did not agree with it, it is football. I hated Up Close and Personal then and I hate it now it took us away from the actual sports event to make it all packaging and fluff and canned s*** and none of the real compoetition back in the day you could watch actual athletes complete and stars emerge rather than hear what someone's 7th grade school teacher thought about an athlete that tv has picked to push

33, and the olympic tragedy was never covered this crazy 10 days later to be the lead or top story that many days later. then I am wondering what you watch vs what I watch - I suppose really I watch very little if any sports news shows - so maybe that is why the coverage seems usual to me and excessive to you - from my only viewing habits, this has been played about as much as the Mike Tyson rape case, no more no less - age is not the difference so it has to be things we view then Munich would have been covered much more had they had the technology and 24 hour cable stations then - I think it was covered less only because of technology differerences

that has been going on forever, or at least, 31 years when ABC began to do "up close and personal" things on Olympics athletes rather than actually show the Olympic competition itself - been going on for a long, long time and with 24 hour sports and news networks, ESPN began in what, the mid 70s, or 80 or 81 at the very latest. what else do they have to fill airtime with?

how old are you? I ask that, not to be snippy or mean, but as a point of reference to evaluate how much you have seen.
  12. not same difference at all.
  13. what is an elimination date? I know what a clinch date is but I am unfamiliar with this phrase. Since the picks must be in by June 15th, hardly matters anymore, I am just curious! Nice to see BrandoFan posting again!
  14. it is known that front office staff of the Sox read the mlb sox board. Whether anyone does more than that, such as soxtalk or wsi no idea. When KW made the roller coaster statement, I took it in context to mean what it says at face value about the emotions of following the team, not a rererence to any message board.
  15. keep your numbers in mind but way too premature to proclaim anything

    Who Cares

at the game saturday in Ann Arbor, my football bud (who is from Cincinnati) kept going on and on about how great Sullivan is and how p.o.ed the Red players are and as the guy is a librarian who reseaches out of nespapers, I have a ton of newspaper clippings on the subject so I feel better about the trade - but I wish Hummel well as I do for most players we trade away

  19. you betcha??????? you a Swede from northern Minnesota or a refugee from the movie Fargo?
  20. very good point - for all the scoffers, the 2-1 in both places is psychologically better than a 1-2 NY and 3-0 Detroit even though both are 4-2 results - thanks for the perspective!
  21. everyone go to an angels message board and say thanks, and keep going Haloes!
