  1. Higginson????? I avoided commenting on that as to be not be too critical but since you brought it up -- Higginson????????????
  2. Making the wrong move could damn us for seasons more. (Not that we could tell from seasons past... ) We make a move, I want it not to be any more, but the right move. However, what about this - waiving D Lo and hiring J Lo as manager - she'll look better in the dugout and that qualifies as "any move" and her going out to argue with the umps would be fun to watch -
  3. agreed - I think it is cool that Frank is speaking up - I also wish he would start hitting, too - glad he is at leat drawing walks - ,someone needs to get on base somehow and he is at least doing that -
  4. Look what kind of team he can put together for $120 million. Just think of the jugernaut he'd create with JR's budget. Forget him.
  5. spoken like a Lions fan. I cannot understand the illiogic of hoping a team does bad to accomplish something. Make changes as needed to do what is good - we can still accomplish everything this season - adjust where we have to - but to wish losses on this team, on my team - no, don't begin to go there. The holes that are dug become the obtsacles that one can not get out of. It is making adjustments as needed, not waiting for devastation and then change, that separates winners from perennial also rans.
  6. waiting for the KW to go - we need Ward to go - what has been the highest it total of any game the last two weeks? without looking it up, have we had only one game in two weeks with hits in double figures? and haven't we had a lot of games with 3 or 5 hits? Ward has to go (IMHO) - it is not working - we are not going to win any games being shut out on 5 hits
  7. Where is, get someone in here to replace Ward?
  8. they must be - or they haven't looked up the actual records of JM and Valentine - Valentine seems so hot because he is on tv and gets to make all these cool witty comments the record still stands - JM's winning % is better JM has a better % of getting into post season play Valentine has never won a division title Valentine has destroyed team after team he was on - which is why he was driven out of NY two years after going to the World Series if being on tv and making smart ass comments was all that is needed to be a manager, then we could save a few bucks and hire any of the broadcast crew of Sox and Roll, no tv but better smart ass comments Valetnine is just another re-tread who has managed for 15 years and never won a thing but got a tv gig because the good old boy network takes care of its own and smart mouthed failures make great ratings broadcasters in any sport - Valentine is nothing but the Jerry Glanville of MLB should we hire some one new, lets hire some one on skills and abilities, not someone washed up who has a mouth one-tenth as witty as Don Cherry's and no other asset than that
  9. spent 4 years of college and 4 years of seminary in that place
  10. any one checking the news all day?
  11. Earl Weaver's aproach worked because the whole team was in on the same philosophy - with Ward playing a different game than JM, no wonder things are confused and diluted and the hititng is suffering - makes it more interesting that Frank called in Hriniak - and almost all of our batters are way below career levels - our defense isn't that bad, even our baserunning hasn't been filled with blunders, the pitvhing has been for the most part in there - the one thing that has hurt us is hitting
  12. George Wallace and Macolm X could have both told us what would happen to freedom rights in the south - but they were coming from very different places Bean is describing what would happen now if nothing changes Jones is describing what he would do and his enforcing that nothing changes being on the giving end or receiving end oif bias, prehudice, and bigotry makes a big diofference in what the words mean - and then as well, to say they said the same thing is only about were one aspect of it all - are all of their words identical? Not hardly, beginning with Jones's other nasty ass comments about gays You can take every word of what Jones says and chnage the word "gay" to "black" and we are back in MLB 1946. Acceptable? Or not?
  13. but he would deny a gu employment becuase he has some fear of showers - that is far more subtle type of bigotry equal rights to employment ?? not surprizing then that in almost all states a gay or lesbian has no protection in job discrimination because of orientation - that is a crime in America and Todd Jones is just anouthert hog feeding off the trough who has got his, and his drewam, but would deny it to others because of course Todd Jones is so hot hot hot in his own mnd he can't take a shower without being the object of lust - or is as much as bigot as the baseball players in 1946 who didn't want to shower with blacks, or the Jim Crow laws in the south which prevented whites and blacks from swimming in the same swimming pool - same thing - and we have had at least 3 reports of Jones saying what he has said, plus what I read on the Rockies website - the guy cannot claim - nor can you - that anyone has set him up - he just keeps shooting of his mouth over and over -
  14. I question anything that comes from the Moonie newspaper moon and newspaper and church
  15. I have tried to kill this thread - I posted crazy opera stuff - and I posted a hell of a lot of new threads just to - twice - drive this off the main page so it would be forgotten but people keep bringing it back - if this thread has lost its meaning or has become meaningless drivel om belongs elsewhere, a) stop posting to it B) start a bunch of new threads to drive it off the main page again. I am beginning to think you all like this damn thing - you won't let it die. I am done trying to kill it. You all revived it, live with it.
  16. It is in this fire that the toughest Tigers fan will be forged. Trust us, dweller. When Detroit is playing in the 2013 ALCS series against the Texas Rangers, that same young kid will be a beer-swilling college student at the University of Michigan, bragging: "Man, I remember when the Tigers had four wins, and Jeremy Bonderman had TWO of them!" Or, "Dude, my Dad took me to Comerica when the infield was Pena, Santiago, Infante and Munson!" It is then, and only then, when the pain will be worth it. There is truth to that. Those of us who lived through the Sox's 1970 season have that feeling not that I am wishing it on anyone! - it made 1977 and 1983 all that much sweeter - I'd much rather win the World Series the next 12 years in a row than have anyone experience what we did in 70 or the Tigers are now... but I wonder how many fans would fall away if we did - but given all the screaming about a team that is one game under 500... a lot of posters here do not remember what a really bad baseball team can be like when it is your team - the faithful stay. And stay. And stay. And we dream and hope, with no assurance of victories, no assurance of glory, just the assurance that the Sox are our team damn it and no one can change that.
  17. you are confsuing Detroit with Wrigleyville
  18. I think for sure that Sandy's future is like his father's present - being a coach
  19. I've been thinking about that a lot about Ward... I think it is time for him to go, with KW with him, and let JM have a batting coach whose philosophy is the same as his - get everyone on the same page - too many conflicting philosophies (and too many head chefs) mess up the mix every time. Lert it be JM's team and let's see what he can do without interference -
  20. Your third post - haven't seen your name before, sorry! Welcome!
  21. that's fine, everyone likes you!
  22. I thought Backman was at Birmingham. Nobody edits anymore in American journalism. I missed that faux pas - America needs editors!
  23. White Sox hope to rewrite history White Sox (15-16) at A’s (19-12), 9:05 p.m. CT By Scott Merkin / MLB.com Vote now for the 2003 All-Star game # A's preview Most Chicagoans look forward to a spring trip out West, getting out of the cold and blustery local conditions. It doesn’t have quite carry the same excitement for the White Sox. Mark Buehrle / P Height: 6'2" Weight: 200 Bats/Throws: L/L More info: Player page Stats Splits White Sox site etopps Over 12 games played in Oakland, Anaheim and Seattle last year, the White Sox picked up one victory and were outscored by a combined 98-34 margin. The first West Coast trip of 2003 starts Tuesday in Oakland, where the White Sox lost all six played in 2002. But, the team is optimistic this excursion could be a turning point to overcome a slow start. “We have to forget about what’s happened out there in the past,” said White Sox shortstop Jose Valentin, whose team was outscored by a 49-11 margin in Oakland. “This West Coast trip could be a good one for us, a real turn around. “Our team never plays well out there. This time, maybe we will go out and sweep the guys in Oakland and Seattle.” The White Sox's goal all season has been to win each series, a more realistic target on their upcoming trip. It all begins Tuesday night, with a rematch on the mound of the Mark Mulder-Mark Buehrle battle from last Wednesday. Mulder won that game, 4-1, dominating the White Sox from start to finish in his second complete game of the season. Buehrle was sharp over six innings, but was victimized by the dense fog in which Magglio Ordonez lost Eric Byrnes’ pop up. It fell for a triple, leading to a two-run Oakland rally and changing the game’s momentum Buehrle had two very different outings in Oakland last season. His shortest career start came in a 16-1 loss to the A’s on April 27, but then he lost a 1-0 pitcher’s duel to Cory Lidle on August 16. Only three of the six games in Oakland were decided by three runs or fewer. The White Sox struggling offense gets a break after Mulder, facing Ted Lilly and John Halama instead of Tim Hudson or Barry Zito. “It could be a good trip for us,” said White Sox manager Jerry Manuel. “I haven’t looked at the schedule to say what trip is good and at what time we need it. But it’s still somewhat early in the season.” Pitching matchup: CHI: LHP Mark Buehrle # 2-4, 3.72 in 2003 # 0-1, 6.00 vs. OAK in 2003 # 1-4, 4.39 lifetime vs. OAK OAK: LHP Mark Mulder # 4-1, 3.14 in 2003 # 1-0, 1.00 vs. CHI in 2003 # 3-0, 2.99 lifetime vs. CHI Players to watch: As shown by Mulder’s complete-game victory last Wednesday at U.S. Cellular Field, not many of the players in the White Sox's lineup get good swings against the young left-hander. Carlos Lee has the greatest success, going 5-for-14, including a double off the center-field wall Wednesday. Quotable: “When you are not playing well, you hope for a lot of season. We have a lot of season out there. When you are playing well, you hope for the season to get over quickly. I just don’t think we’ve played our best baseball over an extended period of time as of yet.” -- Jerry Manuel on his team after 30 games this season.
