QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) I wouldn't classify it as a dirty move. I would call it a brilliant stategy. One in the same nowadays.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 07:28 PM) It is the people that don't want gay marriage.......In all states where a ban on it was proposed it passed in the last election. By fighting such things in court your side is defying the will of the people. *Hijacking thread* This was one of the dirtiest moves by Karl Rove in the 2004 election, making sure almost all states had this gay marriage proposal on the ballot during the election. Because most Americans I believe are against gay marriage, which I guess is their right. But when they see this proposal last second it reminds them that they want a right winger in power who would never let such an evil thing as gay marriage happen. Meh just my observation.

Jeeze those last 3 posts have all the exact same message. Too bad I can't explain myself with the eloquence that Winodj does.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) I agree with you on 1/3rd of your argument. Point 1. Progressives don't believe in liberty. How do you explain Political Correctness (I.E. thought control ) ? How do you explain social engineering? How do you explain their line of thought that suggests government can run peoples lives better than people can? Point 2. Equality? I wholeheartedly agree with you on that one. They wont be done trying to re-distribute people's wealth until the squeege guy has the same amount as Bill Gates does. The problem with that is that it was tried once.......in the Soviet Union, and what happened was that everyone was equal alright.........equally miserable. Unless you happened to be in the top circles of government that is. Point 3. How on earth can you say that they believe in responsibility when they are of the opinion that people cannot be trusted to run their own lives? How can you say they believe in responsibility when they want the government to micromanage even the most minute aspects of people's life from cradle to grave? Bah just because a government supplies health care doesn't mean they run your f***ing life goddamnit. Right wingers are the ones saying you can't marry a guy. I don't believe for a second that whether liberals or conservatives, progressives or regressives run a country do they run your lives. This is bulls***!

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) Define regressive. If it's regressive to live in a society where people are not coddled by government from birth to death & not a place where the government practices wholesale social engineering on it's entire society then I'm all for being regressive. "Progressivism" is nothing more than a euphamisim for handing over control of your life to government. It frowns on individual freedom because "progressives" think they can run your life better than you can run it yourself. It's all fine and dandy as long as you conform. If "progressives" ever got any serious control then American Society would turn into one similar to the pussy whipped, piss ant bunch of cheesedicks that you saw in the movie "Demolition Man". "A bunch of 47 year old virgins sitting around in their underwear singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener" f*** that. Well I have no idea what that whole post is about but by progressive I mean allowing gays to marry, getting rid of the death penalty, improving education instead of military, considering environmental problems. I don't see any of these types of things happening. ------------ John Spartan: [to machine on wall] Thanks a lot you s***-brained, f***-faced, ball breaking, duck f***ing pain in the ass. Moral Statute Machine: John Spartan, you are fined five credits for repeated violations of the verbal morality statute.

QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) How is a quasi-communist state by definition "expansionist?" Exactly what have the Chinese done to make you think they would go after Canada? They never would, they just want us in Canada to feel like we are nothing without them. :finger

Yup, a must see. I've yet to see a negative review. Also looking forward to Cinderella Man starring Russell Crowe. http://www.cinderellamanmovie.com/media/ci..._trlr1_700k.mov

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) Yep. BTW, I found this on that link: I certainly never doubted the generosity of the American people.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Well I'm researching now. Will report back with findings! http://www.globalissues.org/TradeRelated/D...sp?so=d2003#oda Good website that also deals with private donations. I got to go to class now. Great discussion.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) I don't have a clue. What about Canada? Well I'm researching now. Will report back with findings!

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) Well ... keeping in mind that statistics can be massaged, in fiscal year 2003 the US can 40% of all world wide aid for disaster relief. Just an example twisted statistics. It is probably true, but, like yours, statistics can say exactly what you want them to. Well that's good, but what percentage of aid have they given to Africa this year? That I'd like to know. AIDS makes this tsunami look like a b****.

QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) That's badmouthing right there. You're calling me a zombie. Yes, this has lots to do with Indonesia - That's part of foreign policy. Helping out in a time of need anywhere in the world. We give more federal dollars and private dollars than anyone! It's a biproduct of our type of government that you despise so much. This post made me go out and do some research. -Since World War 2 US Foreign Aid has gone from 15% of the federal budget to .72%. -In 2000 the top recipient of US aid was Israel!?! -Of the other top beneficiaries in 2000 none were from Africa -As of 2000 America isn't even close to being the top foreign aid giver when it comes to percentage of gross domestic product -UN recommends at least 0.7% of the GDP, the US as of 2000 have given 0.1%. -As of January 10 the US was 5th in total amount of aid given (gov't money)

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) I would like to acknowledge that having a country like Canada sharing such a long border, has been nice and helped both countries. Imagine a cold war with Russia pointing warheads from Windsor instead of Canadian Gentleman's Clubs.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) That, my fellow North American, I can live with. Carry on.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) Whatever. So be it. But, mark my words. You come in here bad mouthing the USA when we are carrying you asses, I'll be all over yours. Every time it happens. Don't worry I'll never badmouth the USA, just the yoyos running it and the zombies that follow them.
-
QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) Oh, come on. In your opinion. Yeah, real regressive in Indonesia, huh? What!?! This has nothing to do with Indonesia. I'm talking foreign policy, gay rights, environmental policy. All that crap...
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) Sure. As long as you acknowledge by covering Canada with our security umbrella, it enables you to spend spend your money on your progressive agenda and not spend evil defense dollars. And that you don't get all high and mighty because we spend on defense and not on progressive entitlements. Well I don't and won't believe that. And if being high and mighty is believing what your country is doing is right as compared to another country then so be it.
-
QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) Any guesses as to why that is? Shouldn't be that difficult. Because America as is right now is a regressive country.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) Regardless of what the defense budget is, Canada is STILL benefitting from the security umbrella we provide. China is still very communist, and by definition very expansionist. They also happen to have the world's largest army. Yas haven't we already agreed that Canadians don't bother to worry about being invaded or terrorized and you guys do. Can't we just leave it at that.
-
QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) :puke You can shrug it off but for us it's a priority. Education is the basis for everything.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:23 AM) The defense budget isn't anywhere near a trillion dollars Okay I got my facts wrong but as of 2003 the United States defense budget is 11 times as big as the next largest, Great Britain and I'm certain in the last two years this budget has risen. Although I also remember reading recently that they wanted to make budget cuts? http://www.clw.org/milspend/ushighestbudget.html http://www.scoop.co.nz/mason/stories/HL0401/S00066.htm
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) Which the irony of that is, their entire health system would collapse if it wasn't for American consumers paying higher drug prices so that the rest of the world doesn't have to pay as much for them. American consumers are paying literally subsidizing the R&D and drug prices for the entire world. Well I don't know anything about that but I know Canada would be it complete ruins without the United States.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:15 AM) I'm not talking about now. In 1965 your parents would have learned how to goose step. Sure the US has helped us in the past and such but today is a new day. It's time to move on and be more progressive. And progressive isn't having a defense budget of over a trillion dollars.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) You don't think so? If it wasn't for "Seward's Folly" Alaska would have been part of the USSR during the cold war. They were expansionists. You figured out where they would have expanded to. No wait ... your national health care policy would have been deterrent enough. Well the entire world was close to being communist but that was 50 years ago, and as cold blooded as Putin is I don't think he's looking to expand into Canada.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) Oh come on. Hell if wasn't for the location of the state of Alaska, you'd be speaking Russian now.
